FORUM > IPW Topic of the Week Idea Thread
Yeah first one was a huge hit over what 60 comments? Nay a flame war started also, not bad for the internet.
My idea is simple. To taunt, or not to taunt. When is taunting ok? when is it just being a dick bag. I think every one has their own moral code on this that crosses all fighting games. Heck even non fighting games, i can remember many a Teabag.
For me i don't taunt often unless i get super pissed. I also feel if you taunt you better sure as hell win the match otherwise you just look like a damn fool. The flip side of this i try to understand that indeed every one sees this different. A taunt might not even be a form of malice but a tactic to get you on tilt. It might just be apart of their brash style. Talking shit to talk shit also fits in with a lot of mindsets.
Would be interesting to see the wide opinions of the IPW reader base and staff.

I like the idea of a topic of of the week thread. Also, you might want to add the discussion topic to your podcasts!

The taunting thing is a good idea for a topic. I set my personal action to none because taunting just isnt my cup of tea.

The Future of SSFIV.
There is no denying that SSFIV is the leading game in the FG community, the new iterations of SF4 have helped keep the fire going but they will eventually stop. So, will SSFIV always be the most popular game? Will it always be the feature on live streams? Will it only be dethroned by SF5? or will the new Capcom fighting games on the horizon, MvC3 or SFxT, take the top spot?

Garrets idea gets my vote, my 2 cents on that: sf will probably remain number one. In my opinion tekken, vf, mk, and blazblue are all good though

ooo that is a great one. I can for sure see it taking main stage for a looong time. Most fighting games are kinda niche hits but street fighter is very simple and straight forward, which attracts people's attention for many reasons.
There's the obvious fact that it's pretty simple, so people can enjoy playing it with out having to put in too much work so they're gunna wanna stick with it. There's also the hardcore people who see it simple and want to abuse that simplicity. Then there are plenty of people who are serious about other fighting games that look at SFIV as a way to work on more basic fighting game techniques, and even execution. Each one of those kinds of people are all likely to get some friends into the game also so you can see how easily it can grow.
That kinda makes me think of a topic that'd be interesting and provoke a wide variety of answers.
Why do you play Street Fighter?
The question could be extended to other games, but I want to hear from the people who main that game ya know? I don't really care so much as to why a street fighter player plays blazblue in their off time.

Honestly I would love to see a simple "Do you think Marvel 3 will be more popular then SSF4?" topic. It may sound whatever at first, but I am genuinley interested in gauging what peoples current feelings are on SSF4. Are they tired of it an just playing it cause everyone else is while they wait for marvel? Are people wanting marvel but more hype about SSF4: AE possible DLC or something? Im really curious where people are at right now.

Excellent topic, Garrett! We'll do your topic this week! There are some other gems in here already too, so I plan to certainly use some of the other ones here as well!
Keep the suggestions coming. I would love it if we can make this a really fun site feature, and that relies on having strong topic ideas!
Thanks to everybody who has contributed so far. Great stuff!

SSF4 will continue to grow for a few years, and then after that one of two things will happen; either it more or less stays the same size with moderate mainstream coverage of tournaments a few more years, or it collapses under it's own weight and we go back to the pre-09 days.
To be entirely honest, I don't think Super's good enough of a game to have the lasting power of games like ST and 98. So unless Capcom has plans to keep the series going, I think we're nearing the end of the road for SF4. But, who's to say another game won't come along and steal it's thunder?
That being said, ten years from now, people will be playing Guilty Gear in the same way people are playing ST and 98 today. :P

The first Topic of the Week, about DLC and expanding fighting games, was a pretty big hit!
If you have any cool ideas for thought-provoking topics, share them in this thread!
I'd love it if we can have one, good, solid new topic each week. Nothing that is a throwaway. Thought provoking, something that can be discussed and opinions shared.
I can't wait to make the first article out of the results. I plan to create stand-alone articles drawn from replies, so that the best opinions are shared with the larger reader base (and as kind of a reward for a job well done)
Thanks in advance for any ideas!
