ABEL - SPECIAL MOVES - SUPER STREET FIGHTER 4

CHANGE OF DIRECTION

QUARTER CIRCLE FORWARD + PUNCH

Change of Direction is a three part move, where you can choose to go high or low after the first hit, ending with a high or low grab. After the initial hit, if you want the follow up attack to be an overhead you will tap forward and Punch. If you want the second hit to be a low, you will tap forward and Kick.

For the third hit, the same concept applies -- you will tap forward and Punch to catch opponents who are blocking low and forward and Kick for opponents who are blocking high.

Also keep in mind you can FADC the first hit which can prove to be useful in a number of situations considering you can combo into Crouching Heavy Punch after the FADC.

The EX version of this attack gains armor which can make it a useful attack from mid range in that it will absorb most of the opponents attacks.

WHEEL KICK

QUARTER CIRCLE BACK + KICK

Wheel Kick is Abel's Armor Breaking move and also doubles as an overhead. The EX version will pass through projectiles. This isn't Abel's best special attack by any means but can prove to be useful in certain situations.

MARSEILLES ROLL

QUARTER CIRCLE FORWARD + KICK

Abel will use this special attack to not only close in on the opponent but also to pass through attacks such as projectiles. Although this is one of his best special moves in that it allows him extreme mobility, keep in mind he can be thrown out of the recovery so you will want to space it so you land outside of the opponents throw range if possible.

FALLING SKY

FORWARD, DOWN, DOWN-FORWARD + PUNCH

Abel will reach up and grab his opponent from the air when you execute this move, but know that it is not really the best anti air attack in that it will lose to many jump in attacks. It's primary use is within combos, such as after a Crouching Heavy Punch, or to catch opponents who try to jump away from your close range mix ups.

TORNADO THROW

HALF CIRCLE BACK + PUNCH

Tornado Throw is another key element in Abel's close range game, allowing him to grab the opponent and toss them to the ground, creating even more mix up opportunities. You can mix this in with your block strings, such as after a Crouching Light Kick to keep the opponent guessing.

EX version can be used much like a Dragon Punch when Abel is being pressured by block strings from the opponent. If the opponent leaves any gaps in their attacks, you can throw them between moves using EX Tornado Throw.

SUPER - HEARTLESS

QUARTER CIRCLE FORWARD X2 + PUNCH

Abel will send his opponent to the wall and hammer them with attacks before tossing them to the ground when you execute this Super. Like most other supers in the game,  even though it can be useful in clutch situations, it's typically better to save your meter for EX moves such as EX Tornado Throw.

ULTRA 1 - SOULLESS

QUARTER CIRCLE FORWARD X2 + THREE PUNCHES

Soulless is a very solid Ultra because it has numerous applications and also does a decent amount of damage as well. Not only can you combo into it after a crouching Heavy Punch, it also goes through fireballs from virtually any distance on the screen.

ULTRA 2 - BREATHLESS

QUARTER CIRCLE FORWARD X2 + THREE KICKS

This Ultra is a great addition to Abel's game even though he cannot combo into it directly. Breathless is an unblockable ultra that has armor, which means it will blow through any non-armor breaking attack and grab the opponent from over 3/4 of the screen away. You can also not only hold the Ultra to change its timing of attack by continuing to hold the kick buttons, but you can also cancel it by pressing punch if you feel it will not connect.
