An anti-air is any form of a counter-attack to an opponent's aerial status. In most cases, this is strictly used to refer to moves like a dragonpunch, but even moves such as crouching fierce, jumping roundhouse, air-throw, or any other moves that hit an aired opponent is considered an anti-air. Especially in a game like street fighter where a jumpin can lead to a huge momentum change due to hardhitting combos starting from a jumpin, having the ability and the reaction to consistently anti-air is one of the most basic tools you will need to succeed as a player.
