An visually confusing attack where the defender must guess which direction to hold in order to block correctly. Typically a jumping attack (often j. mk or j. short) with a wide active hitbox performed as the opponent is waking up. Ground cross-ups also exist but tend to be less-ambiguous since they aren't as difficult to react to.
Can be abbreviated as xup

In the first picture, Ryu must hold left to block the crossup successfully
