« How to purchase Nico Nico points to view SBO 2011 »
Today, due to a lot of requests, I'm going to show you guys how to create a Nico Nico account and purchase points through the site so that you can watch and enjoy SBO this year!
SBO is a Pay Per View stream. The cost is 1500 yen, which is about $19.50 by today's exchange rate, but supporting the American SBO reps is priceless!
Remember to NOT restream or view restreamed footage of SBO. Arcadia and Enterbrain perform a thankless service, and they deserve your support. If the price seems expensive, what better way to support the community than to split the cost with your friends and have a viewing party! Hit the jump for the full tutorial!
Stream time: Fri, 9/16, 7PM Pacific/10PM Eastern.
One more important thing to keep in mind: unlike last year, SBO isn't going to be doing multiple games at once. Arcadia staff have announced that they plan on streaming EXACTLY what is seen by the live audience on the projector, so you will get the 100% full experience watching from home. That means you'll enjoy highlight matches for each game one at a time followed by the full Top 4 + Grand Finals for every game! Remember that it costs money to watch SBO in person also, and the stream only costs half the price of attending the event in person.
First of all, you're going to need to create an account on Nico if you haven't already. There's already quite a few good tutorials for that, like this one:
http://nico-wiki.com/basics/how-to-create-an-account/
So now you're got an account, right? Great! First, let's go to the SBO Event page on Nico:
http://live.nicovideo.jp/product/tougeki2011
You'll be greeted by the following screen. It'll tell you that you don't have enough points! Oh no!
You'll want to click the large Red button to purchase points and make this nasty screen go away. That will take you to the next screen . . .
Alright. Here's the Nico point increment selection screen. SBO costs 1500 Nico points, but Nico only sells in increments of 1000 yen and 500 yen. Fortunately, tax is included in each of these increments, so if you want to purchase the exact amount necessary to view the stream, you'll just want to purchase 500 points first then go through the whole tutorial again and purchase 1000 more for an even 1500 points. Let's click the 500 point button first.
You'll be greeted by the payment type screen. We're red-blooded Americans, so we don't have any of those crazy Japanese payment methods. Click the Visa button on top :)
Pretty self-explanatory. Type your credit card number in the top box, number-only with no hyphens. In the second box, select the expiration month followed by the year. Finally, enter the Captcha number at the bottom so they know you're not a sentient being. Click the yellow button to proceed.
Finally, you'll get a screen like the one above. Yours should just say 500 or 1000, depending on which one you picked. Your credit card will get charged in Yen, so it will be about the amount plus whatever your bank charges you for foreign currency transactions (usually an additional couple of bucks). Click the yellow button to confirm your purchase.
Now, go through the whole thing from the beginning one more time so that you have exactly 1500 points.
Once you have enough points, you'll be able to view the stream from the following link:

The event starts on Saturday, September 17th at 10:30AM JST (opening ceremony from 10:00am). So tune in starting at 7pm Pacific or 10pm Eastern on Friday night, 9/16 and enjoy being a stream monster for the night! The USA teams greatly appreciate your support!

For the record, the stream starts at 9:00 PM today on the east coast, not 10:00 PM. I'm guessing Ryan forgot to account for daylight savings time.

can anyone help?
it looks like u have to register your card with their verification website or something in order to use your card to buy points i'm trying to figure it out as this is being typed.
alright some how it let me go to the verification site and do all that stuff, so i'm good to go now.. thanks for the help though.
happy watching :)
how did u register i am having problems trying to register
I just tried it again the same way i did before, and instead of giving me that message it redirected me to the site where you gotta verify your visa, and then after that it worked perfect... I don't really know how it started working... so sorry I can't help
I can't buy points! Just like @JOHN CRUM
What did you do to make it work? It gives you a message before that pic you sent, but it quickly goes to that page. I called my bank to see if it was an authorization issue, and they said i should be able to do it. Any help would be much appreciated!!!
If you have a VISA card, you can activate it on the "Verified by Visa" website:
https://usa.visa.com/personal/security/vbv/index.jsp
Bank of America doesn't participate in the "Verified by Visa" program, so BoA cards will most likely not work.
fuck me :(
Bought the points (accidentally got 5 fuckin thousand yen worth)....now how in the god damn hell do i watch this? Ryan Harvey-Birdman i need your help dude...
i bought the points and today it wont let me log in so how do i reset the password can anyone please help i'm goin crazy here
Correction: Bank of america credit cards support work with verified by visa, but their debit cards do. Call them to activate. My card works now.
Directions were pretty good but man it was a hastle. I wont be doing this again, be warned my brothas....shit is not that easy! still didnt see a damn thing
