« Player Mods Piano To Work As A Fighting Game Controller »

While not an arcade stick, someone made a controller for fighting games with a piano!

Geoffry "McCool" Guterl modified his Kawai CL-25 digital piano to work as a Hitbox-style arcade stick. All directional and attack inputs are through piano keys instead of arcade stick buttons and a lever.

McCool's piano transfers MIDI signals to an Arduino board which then helps triggers inputs on the Joytron Paewang Revolution board for compatibility on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

You can find a video of McCool playing Tekken Tag Tournament 2 with his piano after the jump!

Heyho, This is the final product of my project for interaction design. Took the whole semester, to get this to work but it was worth it. How it works: The piano sends a Midi-Signal, which is transferred to an arduino. According to the signals, the arduino triggers transistors, which then trigger inputs on a paewang PCB (This is the PCB of an arcadestick). The paewang is connected to an Xbox360 (you can also use it on PS3).
