Time will not wait: Ultimecia joins Dissidia Final Fantasy arcade

The main antagonist of Final Fantasy VIII is coming to the arcade version of Dissidia Final Fantasy.

A powerful sorceress, Ultimecia possesses many ranged attacks and looks to be a character who prefers to fight from a distance instead of up close. She is the second new character being added to the arcade version of Dissidia in as many months, as Jecht joined the game's cast in August.

Ultimecia has also been confirmed for the upcoming PlayStation 4 game, Dissidia Final Fantasy NT.

New character coming to Dissidia Final Fantasy arcade on Sept. 5

A new character will be announced for the arcade version of Dissidia Final Fantasy early in September.

This will be second character since August, as Square Enix announced in June that a new character would join the arcade version of Dissidia for every month from August through November. So far, Jecht from Final Fantasy X has joined the game.

While there is currently no guarantee that the forthcoming characters will all make it into Dissidia Final Fantasy NT when it arrives on PlayStation 4 in early 2018, Jecht has already been confirmed for that game. With that in mind, it seems reasonable to believe that new additions to the arcade game will be part of the console game when it is released.

You can sign up now over at the link above for one of two chances to win an access code for the Dissdia Final Fantasy NT closed beta. Contest winners will be chosen by random number generator on Aug. 25 at 12 p.m. PST. The two chosen winners will be contacted via email with the access codes. Since these codes are not download codes, they must be redeemed on Square Enix's website with a valid Square Enix account. SE will send an email with a download code for use on a PlayStation 4.

The beta can be downloaded from Aug. 25 at 9 p.m. PDT until Sept. 1 at 9 p.m. PDT. Players can access the beta from Aug. 25 at 9 p.m. PDT to Sept. 3 at 9 p.m. PDT.

Dissidia Final Fantasy NT, exclusive to the PlayStation 4, will be coming to Japan on Jan. 11, 2018, with the rest of the world receiving the game on Jan. 30.

Dissidia Final Fantasy NT's closed beta to run from Aug. 26 to Sept. 4

The upcoming closed beta for Square Enix's arena fighting game will stretch from the end of August into early September 2017, according to a post from the official Final Fantasy Twitter account.

Starting on Aug. 26 at 9 a.m. PDT, players will have the chance to try out the 14 heroes included in the beta. The characters are Warrior of Light, Firion, Onion Knight, Cecil Harvey, Bartz Klauser, Terra Branford, Cloud Strife, Squall Leonhart, Zidane Tribal, Tidus, Shanotto, Vaan, Lightning and Y'Sholta. Not included will be the recently announced Jecht or any of the series' villains.

Players can register for the beta on the official Square Enix website until Aug. 15 in hopes of being chosen to participate. Those lucky enough to already have a code for the beta, which includes attendees of Sunday finals at Evolution 2017, should make sure to use the specific code registration.

Learn how to play Dissidia with a new tutorial from Square Enix

The makers of Final Fantasy have released a new video showing viewers how to play the upcoming Dissidia Final Fantasy NT.

The tutorial is aimed squarely at players new to the franchise as it covers the basics of Dissidia's gameplay, from picking a character to what action each button on the PlayStation 4 controller performs. It also explains all the parts of Dissidia's in-game display and how a team can win the match.

Interestingly enough, the tutorial ends telling players to "apply all this in the demo," but Square Enix has made no mention of releasing a demo of Dissidia to the public. It's possible that the phrase is simply a holdover from E3 2017 where a playable version of the title was present, but SE has made no official statement at this time.

Dissidia Final Fantasy NT is scheduled for release sometime in early 2018 for PlayStation 4. Readers can check out the tutorial after the jump.

Dissidia Final Fantasy NT announced for PlayStation 4

The arcade version of Square Enix's arena fighting game will be coming home in early 2018.

Dissidia Final Fantasy NT will keep all the trimmings of its arcade counterpart, such as the three-versus-three battles, but will also include new story elements, single player modes and new characters such as Noctis. According to the SE live stream reveal, "NT" in the home version means "various things, including 'New Tale,' 'New Trial,' and 'New Tournament.'

The game was originally developed by Team Ninja for Japanese arcades and first released in November of 2015. It includes more than 20 playable characters from the history of Final Fantasy along with summons and familiar attacks.

While the home version isn't due until 2018, Square Enix has already stated that there will be no crossplay between the editions, and that the arcade version will continue to get updates first. Readers can check out the game's trailer after the jump.

Dissidia Final Fantasy Arcade Character Trailers Being Released

The arcade reboot of Square Enix's 3-D fighting game, Dissidia Final Fantasy, launches on Nov. 26 in Japan and the company is releasing trailers for the title's revealed characters.

So far, seven characters have been announced for the title, each representing one of the first seven Final Fantasy games. The characters are Warrior of Light, Firion, Onion Knight, Cecil Harvey, Bartz Klauser, Terra Bradford and Cloud Strife.
