Rising Thunder: Community Edition coming in January 2018

Rising Thunder will be given back to the fans in January 2018 as part of a "Community Edition" designed to let players enjoy the game once again.

Tom Cannon made the announcement on Reddit, where he noted that the upcoming release is a gift to the fans who have tried to bring the game back to life. The release will include offline play, although it will only feature support for keyboard versus controller on release, as well a rudimentary open-source server to allow for online matchmaking. He notes that "all of this is free, and will stay that way forever."

Cannon also noted that the team has been working on a new project that it will reveal when "the time is right." Radiant Entertainment closed the doors on the Rising Thunder alpha build in March 2016 after the company was purchased by Riot Games.

Radiant Entertainment bought by Riot Games, Rising Thunder to close

The company behind Rising Thunder and Stonehearth has been purchased by Riot Games.

In a statement posted on March 8, the company said that Stonehearth will continue "full speed ahead" until it is completed. What will not be continuing, however, is Rising Thunder. As part of Riot, the Radiant team is setting to work on a new project "that we’re incredibly excited about."

Radiant could offer no other details at this time, but did say the Rising Thunder Alpha will be closing on March 18. Check out the full statement below.

Rising Thunder Update Grants Vlad a New Variant, Other Changes

The new update for Rising Thunder is now live, and with it comes changes for several members of the cast.

While Chel, Crow, Dauntless and Edge received minor tweaks to existing moves, it was Talos and Vlad who were given the biggest list of changes in this patch. Talos' movement speed was buffed and several of his move properties were changed, such as Meteor Breaker now being throw invulnerable during its first active frames and the air versions of Magnetic Attract and Spartan Rush granting more meter.

Vlad, meanwhile, was given a new S3 variant, Bolshoi Bash, which goes through projectiles and bounces opponents off the wall.

There are also bug fixes and some visual improvements to the game. For a complete list of the changes, head over to Rising Thunder's website.

New Rising Thunder Update Planned for Oct. 27

The team at Radiant Entertainment is currently moving into a new office, but still hopes to roll out a new patch for Rising Thunder on Oct. 27. The update contains both system changes and individual character changes, along with the usual bug and crash fixes to the title.

On the system front, meter gain has been tweaked, as Overdrive meter gain has been increased by 10 percent while Kinetic Advance meter gain has been reduced by 20 percent. There have also been reductions to the amount of meter invincible and armored moves give a player and adjustments to damage reduction in combos.

For the individual characters, Chel and Dauntless are untouched in the update while Crow and Edge have received several changes including a new S3 variant for Edge. Talos has been given improved damage on a couple heavy attacks, and Vlad's Revolutionary Rocket now has increased dizzy.

For the full patch notes, along with developer insight into the changes, check out the game's website.

New Rising Thunder Update Brings System, Character Changes

Rising Thunder has been updated, and the new build brings several alterations to the game.

On a system level, the interface will now show both the Kinetic and Overdrive meters for both players, and Legend tier players will now "see their ranking among all players." There are also a few performance tweaks to reduce possible interface flickering and to help reduce FPS drops for players using AMD processors.

Within the game itself changes have been made to Vlad, Dauntless and Edge for this patch, including the removal of Edge's S3 overhead cancelling into Overdrive and a new Vlad variant. Several bugs have also been fixed.

A complete list of changes can be found on the Rising Thunder site. As always, the developers note that the changes are not final and that feedback is always appreciated to make Rising Thunder a better game.

Rising Thunder Enters Open Alpha

The fighting game created by Seth Killian and Radiant Entertainment, the studio led by Evolution cofounders Tom and Tony Cannon, is now being offered to the general public. The game, which had been in an invite-only closed Alpha test to ensure that its online network was stable, has apparently passed and can now be downloaded and played by anyone who signs up at Risingthunder.com.

However, as this game is still in a technical alpha build, it's important to note that players may encounter errors in matchmaking or even with the game itself. The game is continuously being patched by the developers to reduce this number of possible complications.
