« Triumvir X Capcom SFII: HD REMIX Tournament Aftermath »

Big thanks to Virtua Fighter 5 training partner FIVETEN from SRK/VFDC for giving us the low down on the HD REMIX tournament that went down over the weekend! Have images and impressions from the event? Let us know!
The Fresh sneaker boutique in Berkeley, CA was lively with DJs spinning good music the entire day while I waited around for all 16 people to show up and play in the Super Street Fighter II Turbo: HD Remix tournament sponsored by TRIUMVIR . People came from a lot of places all over the Bay Area, different experience levels, and lots of new acquaintances were made. I was 9 years old when ST came out (23 now), and to finally participate in the action felt nostalgic. I'm definitely going to step my game up for the next opportunity.
So, the format of the event went something like this: there were single elimination qualifiers and then a 2 out of 3 match, 8 man tournament, which I got to participate in. Once the store tournament was over and done with, the 1st and 2nd Place winners, Aldin(Guile) and Nate(Dee Jay) respectively, moved on to play the winners from three other stores. San Jose had John Choi(Guile) and Eugene(Claw), Fountain View in SoCal had Alex Valle(Ryu) and Naoto(Guile), and Tampa Bay, Florida had Mavrick(Dictator) and Isaac(Dictator). As far as the online results are concerned, we didn't end up with any wins in Btown, and Florida took the victory overall in both 1st and 2nd.
Some say the online portion could have been handled a little better but overall it was a great time and I really want to come back for more events/tournaments (Fresh is apparently planning a SFIV release tournament when the game drops early next year).
Now, one thing I should mention is that I don't know about the other stores, but there was a second store tournament held a little after the online portion of the first tournament wrapped up. The store champ Aldin(Guile) ended up taking second to a Vega(Claw) Player.
All participants received a Triumvir bag full of goodies including the M. Bison(Dictator) wanted poster and a collectable SFIV Chun Li statuette. And did I mention that entry was free?
Here are pics of the phat loot:

actually, the guile player won the 1st and 2nd in-store tournament. 1st tournament (official triumvir was the guile player and a dee jay player representing). the 2nd tournament for the store only, it was the guile player and a vega player who won. the online portion had lag, and there was confusion as far as format. the winners were (san jose - guile, vega players), (socal - ryu, guile players), (florida - 2 bison players), and berkeley (guile, dee jay but the guile player opted for balrog in online portion). many thought it was best of 3 matches, with 5 round matches. but it ended up being 1 match with 5 rounds, and if you lost, you were eliminated
