« STREET FIGHTER 4 SELLS 86,000 COPIES FIRST DAY IN JAPAN »
Looks like things are off to a good start in Japan for CAPCOM's Street Fighter 4 with the game selling 86k copies between the PS3 and 360 version. The game is still got edged out by Soul Calibur 4 that sold 92k copies first day, but the PS3 version of SFIV sold more first day then Soul Calibur 4 did. These sales numbers are more than double VF5's first day of sales at 42k.
I think Street Fighter IV will have a lot longer life cycle than either of the other games mentioned due to its iconic characters and over all accessibility.
From the article on PS3center.net:
Street Fighter IV went on sale in Japan yesterday, simultaneously for the PS3 and XBox 360. The title had a pretty good opening day, selling 86,000 copies in total. The PS3 version sold 58,000 copies, while the 360 version sold 28,000.
The title will chart as the best selling PS3 fighter in Japan, barely outing Soul Calibur IV by a mere 1,000 units. Overall, Soul Calibur IV still retains the best opening day record on the current gen systems, selling 92,000 copies. Virtua Fighter 5 sold about 42,000 copies.

According to CheapAssGamer the game is still available in Japan.

The game sold well but it didn't sellout. It's a false rumor. Here's a blog by a guy how lives in Japan and says he found copies at stores hours ago:

Oh, wow, thanks for the heads up.. I figured if it was on Capcoms blog it must be true..
Great news. I hope the devs reap the rewards of high sales. They deserve it.
