« HOW TO FIND HIGH LEVEL PLAYERS ONLINE FOR STREET FIGHTER 4 »

So after a day or two of playing people who apparently haven't played Street Fighter since Street Fighter II I started to get a little frustrated in that not only was I only getting like, 6 BPs per win but I really wasn't getting the practice I was hoping for.

Well, thanks to a tip from a friend of mine in Japan he said most high level players just search for games and do not make lobbies themselves. So the best thing to do is set the match making to search for players More Skilled and make a lobby of your own and just wait. After I set things up like this pretty much all my matches have been against players with BP higher than 2k or so.

On a site note, my experience with SF4 Online has been pretty smooth. I've ran into some laggy matches here and there, had to open some ports for my Xbox due to people not being able to join my games but 90% of all the matches I've played have been pretty smooth.

I do feel the game runs a little faster on 360 than on the arcade, although I heard the PS3 version is close to the arcade speed. The difference feels similar to the difference between arcade Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike and the PS2 version. A friend of mine at CAPCOM says the game feel faster for sure as well, and knows for a fact they lowered the polygon count for the console versions so that may have something to do with it.

A couple things I'd like to see in regards to online play:

  • Lobbies similar to HD Remix with spectator mode. Not being able to have a room with all your friends makes inviting and playing with numerous people somewhat tedious.
  • Separate the player match win percentage from the ranked match percentage in player stats. In player matches many times I'm showing people how to play or not playing with characters I know.
  • Over all improvements to the netcode. It's still not as smooth as GGPO, although there is a lot more going with SF4 than a 2D game.

All in all I'm having a great time with the game and I'm sure CAPCOM will keep improving the online elements through patches.
