Player Ranks - A Journey into Gaming Greatness - by King Zeal
King Zeal put together an awesome article about player ranks and a description for each level! He goes into what habits will put a certain player in a certain rank. Really great article with some awesome advice and insight.
What follows is an attempt to break down the types of players that are out there and help casual/new players figure out where they stand and just what sort of mental hang-ups are holding them back. To do this, I developed a “ranking” system that illustrates the levels of development fighting game players tend to go through on their quests to improve, Ranked from E (the lowest) to S (the highest). I have withheld naming any examples within the article to avoid angering anyone who doesn’t agree.
Tales of Comic-Con - Vol 1. MVC3 System Impressions - Vol 2. MVC3 Character Impressions - by Carmine Macchia
Carmine Macchia put together an excellent rundown of Marvel vs Capcom 3 impressions from New York Comic-Con! This is a two part series breaking down both the gameplay mechanics and characters.
Throughout the weekend, there were two characters who were always on my team: Super Skrull and Hulk. For my third character, I tried Amaterasu and Morrigan, before finally settling on Dormammu. All the characters felt great and different from each other, but I had to try to nail down just a few I could use well within my limited time with the game.
Smart Move or Dumb Decision? - by Zentsurugi
Zentsurugi is making the transition from pad to arcade stick and needs your help! Check out his article on his current progress.
So right now I feel like I'm standing at a crossroad looking to find which path is the best to choose from. Last month, maybe 3 weeks ago, I decided to make the transition from the PS3 pad to the arcade stick. I was so excited when I shelled out $70 to start "playing like the pros". Sure I knew it was going to be difficult, but that was the price I was willing to pay. After all I am aspiring to get more competitive in the fighting game scene and start entering tournaments. And when I felt I was good enough, I wanted to start getting major with it and go overseas to tournaments. I guess you can say I have a lot of big goals I want to reach.
Akuma Tatsu into Sweep - by Shway
Shway put together and updated list for Super Street Fighter 4 detailing which characters can be hit by a sweep from Akuma after a Light Kick Hurricane Kick.
If you're a fan of Akuma, this can be your best friend. It's one of the greatest ways to hit confirm into his vortex, and keep it going after words. It's because of this that the lk. tatsu to sweep combo has become a key element of Akuma's legendary vortex!
Improving my Overall Game with Ryu - by RogerDodger
Our very own RogerDodger kicked things off earlier this week with an article about how he is playing Ryu to up his overall game in SSF4. Check it out!
1. Zoning - This is one of the most important aspects of any fighting game that is such a key subject to win. Ryu has a way of covering the whole battlefield while playing. If you split the screen in 5 zones, each zone you have a option with Ryu. Zone 5-4 you can toss slow fireballs. Zone 3 is the danger zone and you need to sit and watch your opponent. Zone 2 is your footsie zone. Zone 1 is in your opponents face. Each zone I will have to figure out what is the
