The MLG Tekken 6 Singles tournament in Orlando came to a close this weekend with some really interesting outcomes -- Korean players Rain and Holeman were knocked out of the tournament by American players, both who are from Texas. According to SDTEKKEN, Crow, who had played Rain at Strong Style just months ago, sent him home but ended up losing to KOR in Losers Finals. KOR met Holeman in Grand Finals and ended up winning the entire tournament.

You can read more about the tournament at SDTEKKEN, and here is a small excerpt from the MLG Official Wrap Up post:

That KOR wasn’t disheartened by his two-set disadvantage heading into the series couldn’t have been shown more clearly than by his Set 1 performance. He came out gunning with a quick two-round lead. Not until the third round that Holeman begin to show signs of life. Round 3 appeared to be heading in Holeman’s favor, but after breaking through a series of Holeman’s blocks, KOR pulled off a sick combo to come back in the round. He took the set 3-0.

While KOR had just won three consecutive rounds, Holeman opened Set 2 with a comfortable Round 1 win. Given the dynamics of the match-up, Holeman’s dominance in the set en route to a 3-1 win was anything but surprising. What was surprising, however, was the tone and pace of the series thereafter.

After Holeman began Set 3 with a Round 1 win, KOR began what would amount to a five-round winning streak spanning two separate sets. He decisively took Rounds 2, 3, and 4 in Set 3, and then Rounds 1 and 2 of Set 4. Holeman proceeded to tie the Set at 2-2, but KOR rode an impressive streak of combos to a Round 5 victory. With the series tied at 4-4, this point marked the last close sets of the night.

Set 5 began with two rounds of huge wins for each player, but it was KOR who won a close Round 3 and Round 4 to take the set. Both massive support from the crowd and nationalistic commentating from the tournament’s director seemed to come together to propel KOR through Set 6. After gaining a 2-1 lead, he ended the set’s final round in almost the same fashion in which he won the series. With little health remaining, KOR landed a perfectly timed high twist kick, knocking out Holeman to win the round, the set, and the series to the tune of 6-4.

Series scores:
Set 1 3-0 KOR
Set 2 3-1 Holeman
Set 3 3-1 KOR
Set 4 3-2 KOR
Set 5 3-1 KOR
Set 6 3-1 KOR

KOR walked away from MLG Orlando with $2500 in cash, as well as a VLX Premium Arcade Stick signed by Namco Bandai Producer Katsuhiro Harada.
