« Mortal Kombat Kollection Confirmed According to TRMK »

Here is what the normal and upscaled versions of the original sprites looked like. What will the HD versions look like?More information on the recently surfaced Mortal Kombat HD compilation is coming out. TRMK has stated that it has confirmed with multiple industry sources that the Mortal Kombat HD compilation is coming! Mortal Kombat Kollection will contain Mortal Kombat 1, Mortalk Kombat 2, and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3!
What is even more impressive is that apparently this collection will feature all new high resolution graphics. These will not simply be upscaled graphics and filters, but apparently new high resolution graphics.
All of these Mortal Kombat titles relied on digitised live actors in the creation of the game's sprites. As such, it is not possible to redraw the sprites like Capcom did with Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix. Warner Brothers would have to recreate the sprites with new actors, with better cameras. According to TRMK, Warner Brothers is going to these lengths with this compilation. Over teh last few months, Warner has hired new actors and has been busy capturing sprite animations, although some of the original cast is involved in some capacity.
It is uncertain how far along the game is in development (if TRMK is correct in its sources), but an early 2011 release is looking probable as Warner Brothers hasn't officially even confirmed the game's existence yet. The developer is also unknown at this point. NetherRealm Studios is busy developing Mortal Kombat 9. TRMK speculates that it may be Backbone Entertainment, the developer behind many retro titles including the downloadable versions of Mortal Kombat 2 and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3.
All of this is potentially great news for Mortal Kombat fans, and would serve to be a perfect re-introduction to the series prior to the proper release of Mortal Kombat 9.
