« Forbes: eSports Make Former Nerds Cool »
Most people would not associate Forbes with eSports, but the outlet posted a surprisingly insightful article on competitive gaming. On the one hand, they compare streaming viewer numbers to traditional television numbers, but on the other, they say that streaming essentially makes television obsolete. The article name-drops Day 9, ESL, MLG, and Twitch.tv, and Forbes claims that sponsors of eSports treat the players just as they would professional athletes.
The author suggests that people might be surprised that the players in these videos don't exude stereotypical gamer geekiness. I'm sure that most of our readers aren't surprised by that statement, but is our society becoming more aware of the reality of professional gaming? Is pro-gaming truly "breaking down stereotypes and barriers"? What do your non-gaming friends, co-workers, or parents think about cyberathleticism?
