« Team Ninja Says Dead or Alive 5 Will "Define the Next Level of Fighting Games" »
I guess Team Ninja doesn't need Itagaki around to blow up other developers, as they continue their tradition of downplaying the accomplishments of other fighting games while raising the expectations for the new Dead or Alive game through the roof.
In an interview with Team Ninja leader Yosuke Hayashi on Siliconera, he mentions that while games like Street Fighter 4 helped revive fighting games and are great with updated graphics, they aren't really bringing anything new to the table and feel "fighting entertainment" is the next step in the genre. He says that with Dead or Alive 5, they aren't going for a technical fighter, but one that is simple enough to play with enough depth under the hood for those who want to find it.
While they talk a good game, I'm still really skeptical and doubt that Dead or Alive 5 will end up being anything more than a "choose your own adventure" fighting game, using traditional DOA gameplay mechanics with nice graphics. What do you guys think? Will Dead or Alive push fighting games in a whole new direction or will it simply be a game for Team Ninja to show the next level of boob physics?
