« The Street Fighter Web Series, This is What the Game is All About »

While I'm sure many of you have been keeping up with The Street Fighter, a web series presented by The Game Station, I just checked out all six episodes in one sitting today. I've never been the type that liked waiting around for new TV episodes to drop, and this was no different: I avoided spoilers and previews of the show at all costs until I knew the last episode was released.

To be honest, going into this I thought to myself "how good could it be?" It's no mystery that any sort of live action show or movie based around video games  -- fighting or not -- usually doesn't turn out too good but The Street Fighter ended up being way better than I expected.

In fact, after finishing it I started to think this is what I would like to see out of a full length Street Fighter movie. Instead of trying to portray characters like Chun-Li and Ryu with sub-par fight sequences as Hollywood has in the past, instead focus on the human element of the game, the part of the game that got us all playing in the first place: the competition.

The series follows a father, Phil, who just lost his job and begins entering Street Fighter tournaments to gain the respect of his son. A pretty simple premise but considering the scope and budget of the project, not to mention the drama between the various characters and plenty of entertaining one liners, it all comes together pretty well in the end.

My only gripe was the actual gameplay footage. Most of the fights were just quick cuts of obvious low level play and I don't think it would have been that hard for them to contact Alex Valle, who has a cameo in the series, or some other players to put together some footage that would be a little more in line with what you would expect to see at an actual tournament. With each video racking up close to 100k views each, I would have liked to see a little more effort put into portraying what high level play looks like for people who have never watched a live stream in their life.

Either way, if you haven't checked out the series yet, I've embedded all six episodes below. It'll take you less than an hour to get through the entire thing and is a great way to zone out for a few if you're looking for something to watch.

Hit us up in the comments once you've finished up and let us know your thoughts on the series and if you'd like to see more!
