« Australian Ratings Board Overturns Appeal for Mortal Kombat Classification »
More bad news for those of you in the land down under: the Australian ratings board has overtuned Warner Bros. Interactive's appeal to get Mortal Kombat classified, meaning that Mortal Kombat 9 is now effectively banned in Australia.
As GameSpot reports, the Australian ratings board came to the decision after a meeting held this past Friday, March 11. Under scrutiny was the game's "explicit depictions of dismemberment, decapitation, disembowelment, and other brutal forms of slaughter", which was found in the re-review to exceed the MA15+ rating guidelines.
Warner Bros. Interactive issued the following statement to GamePron:
“We’re obviously extremely disappointed that the refused classification decision has been upheld by the Classification Review Board. We want to thank the thousands of Mortal Kombat fans in Australia and around the world who have voiced their support during the appeal process.”
A game being refused classification is, unfortunately, nothing new to our friends in Australia, but this is nonetheless a major bummer for fighting game fans that were anticipating getting their hands on Mortal Kombat.
