« Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite footage shows gem, character gameplay »
Several minutes of gameplay from Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite footage has spilled out into the internet, bringing with it a small sample of the game's system mechanics.
Starting with gems, it seems as if they possess two abilities similar to the V System in Street Fighter V. Each gem grants a normal special ability—the time gem seems to offer a quick dash—and a meter that builds while taking damage. The character can then activate that meter like X-Factor in Marvel vs. Capcom 3 to have a great advantage for a limited time. While the system is reminiscent of the aforementioned titles, it should also be noted that the gem meter currently resembles Street Fighter IV's Ultra meter.
Other noticeable features include the ability to spend two meters and tag in your reserve character while your active character is getting comboed. This take on a burst or Mega Crash mechanic is sure to create for some interesting gameplay interactions. The game also seems to have round counters, meaning it would be the first Capcom tag game with a round system. Lastly, when defeated character bodies remain on the screen leading some players to believe there may be revival mechanics coming into play.
Players can make their own assumptions when checking out the footage below.
