Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite-themed Razer Panthera officially announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2018

The biggest comic book and entertainment convention in the United States was the place for Razer to fully reveal itd newest game-branded version of the Panthera arcade stick.

The peripherals company was finally able to show off the Panthera featuring Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite branding at San Diego Comic Con 2018. This version features panel artwork by Long Vo, designed to be a homage to the promotional poster of the first Marvel vs. Capcom by Kinu Nishimura. Aside from the art, its feature set is no different from the original, Street Fighter V and Dragon Ball FighterZ variants of the Panthera. You can expect easy access to the internal compartment, high end parts from Sanwa Denshi, a detachable USB cable and more.

Prior to the official announcement, the stick was leaked on eBay from a comic book store back in May with the listing closed shortly afterwards. It was then featured at the most recent E3, serving as a teaser to the SDCC reveal.

While the Razer Store shows the MVCI Panthera to be out of stock, expect it to be available to buy in the near future.

Unreleased Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite-branded Razer Panthera arcade stick found on eBay

In the world of arcade sticks, eBay is more known for people selling their used sticks. It's very uncommon to see unreleased sticks like this one from Razer.

Seller Lehigh Valley Comics and Collectibles listed a Razer Panthera arcade stick featuring Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite branding. The box features some of the characters from the game unique to the normal version of the Panthera as well as the Marvel Gamerverse imprint. The stick's front panel art is reminiscent of a promotional poster from the first Marvel vs. Capcom likely done by Long Vo, known for the Street Fighter V edition of the Panthera.

Game-specific branding on Razer's stick is nothing new from the company. With the Atrox arcade stick, they have released models featuring artwork from Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition, Ultra Street Fighter IV and Killer Instinct.

Feature-wise, this version of the Panthera seems to be the same such as the ability to open the stick as well as have Sanwa Denshi arcade parts.

Lehigh Valley had been selling the stick for $995 but pulled it early on May 4 due to "an error with the listing." There is currently no info on why this version of the Panthera wasn't released or if there are other models out in the wild. We reached out to both Razer as well as Lehigh Valley Comics and Collectibles for info and will update whenever possible.

New MvCI patch removes unblockable setups, adds small changes

A new update for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite will remove back-turned unblockable setups in addition to several small adjustments for the game.

The big part of the patch is the removal of the unblockable setups, which were first uncovered in December 2017 and relied on the fact that characters could not block low while turning around. According to Capcom this bug has been fixed, which should eliminate those situations from the game.

In addition, backdashes for Dormammu and Hulk were adjusted, active switch entrances for Ultron and Captain Marvel were normalized and several small bugs were corrected. Readers can check out the full patch notes after the jump.

Back-turned unblockable setups discovered in MvCI

A recently discovered exploit to the system of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite is allowing players to create unblockable mixups.

First noticed in a tweet and video from cyberjapanagent, the method involves putting one's opponent in a back-turned standing state. Once this is achieved, the opponent simply cannot block low, allowing their opponent a free combo.

Since the original posting, some players have found several different ways to recreate the setup, including using the mind stone, and others are already calling on Capcom to patch the game.

While the exploit may seem a modern oversight, Jay "Viscant" Snyder posted that a similar issue with back-turned state existed in Marvel vs. Capcom 2, allowing Magneto to sometimes create an unblockable slide against bigger characters like Sentinel and Blackheart. That issue, however, was not as seemingly abusable as the MvCI variation.

MvCI balance patch bringing big changes on Dec. 5

A newly announced patch coming to Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite will change the landscape of the game going into its Battle for the Stones event on Dec. 9-10, 2017.

Big changes have been made to the general gameplay of MvCI, with the seeming removal of the hit-stun deterioration glitch, which allowed players to create very long combos and kill a character.

There are also nerfs to both the Reality surge and Space storm abilities, with the former having slower start-up, less active frames and going away when the character is hit while the later will now put players in the box for less time on activation. Off the ground (OTG) relaunch attacks have also been limited to two per combo and crumple state now offers tech roll in addition to other glitch fixes and engine tweaks.

In terms of the character roster, popular characters like Dante, Dormammu and Ultron have all received nerfs, with Dante receiving a lengthy list of nerfs in terms of move duration, hitboxes/hurtboxes or active frames. Overall, 20 of the game's characters will receive at least one change when the patch releases.

Readers can head over to Capcom Unity for the full list of changes.

Canada Cup Gaming issues lifetime bans over bracket tampering

Canada Cup Gaming has released a statement following rules violations that occurred during Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite at Canda Cup 2017 in late October.

During the event, Jose Aldape—formerly known as "Quackbot" and now using the handle "PC Marvel God"—played in two separate MvCI pools, first his own and then taking the place of Lina "Holy Order-Troll" Crawford in a separate pool. This was no accident, as Aldape later admitted he deserved punishment and Crawford saw no problem with giving him her spot. Because of the tampering, the second pool had to be replayed.

After deliberation, Canada Cup Gaming has banned both players for life from its events. According to a statement from CCG, "players who misrepresent themselves under another player’s gamertag or multiple gamertags (with and without consent) undermine the legitimacy of tournament events." Canada Cup also offered apologies to those affected by the two players' actions.

Readers can check out the full statement from CCG after the jump.

As three Monster Hunter, Black Panther and Sigma come to Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite on Oct. 17, Capcom will also introduce 18 new premium costumes that players can use to alter their favorite character's image in MvCI.

Many of the new costumes represent important history of the character, like Warbird for Captain Marvel or Joe Fixit for Hulk, while other represent different versions or even just stylish clothing.

Each individual costume will cost players $3.99, or they can be purchased in special six-character theme packs for $11.99 or as the all-inclusive Premium Costume Pass for $29.99. Readers can check out all the costume images at Capcom Unity.

Oct. 16 patch to bring changes to Spider-Man, others in MvCI

A new patch for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite will release one day before the game's first wave of DLC characters launches on Oct. 17, 2017, and it will change how characters like Spider-Man are played in the game.

The biggest news is that Spider-Man's web ball projectile is getting an overhaul as now after a third "grab" projectile—including Frank's hammer throw—hits an opponent, they will spin out of the combo. These combos can also now be escaped by using counter tag.

Other changes include a fix to a bug that "made it impossible to block during the last frame of crouching block recovery"; the ability to tech in eight directions after certain hits in the air including Dante's bee hive and Doctor Strange's bolts of Balthakk; and specific fixes for those characters along with Captain America and Dormammu.

Readers can check out the complete list of changes at Capcom Unity.

MvCI Spider-Man infinite soft-banned at Battle for the Stones events

The Spider-Man infinite that has been the subject of debate in the Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite community has been weakened in official Battle for the Stones tournaments.

The infinite, which uses the character's web ball attack in conjunction with the Reality Stone surge to create a looping combo, will only be allowed for three repetitions according to the official Battle for the Stones rules. A player who executes more than that number will be forced to forfeit the match.

According to the rules, the combo "is an unintended effect that circumvents the gameplay mechanics" of MvCI and that organizers feel this is the best answer to the current debate. It is also stated that future decisions like this will be decided "on a case by case basis."

Monster Hunter, Sigma, Black Panther coming to MvCI on Oct. 17

The first three of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite's six announced DLC characters will be available to players in mid-October 2017.

Although Monster Hunter's gameplay was revealed at Tokyo Game Show 2017, a new trailer from Capcom shows how Black Panther and Sigma will handle. Black Panther uses speed and superior air movement—including the ability to cling to walls and attack from them—to neutralize his foes while Sigma fights with his classic beam saber, a command throw and a counter teleport.

All three characters will be available as part of the game's character pass or will cost players $7.99 each. This will include a premium costume for each character, which can be seen at Capcom Unity.

Readers can check out the trailer for Sigma and Black Panther after the jump.

Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite Ryu combos by FinalShowdown

Veteran combo maker and former competitive Guilty Gear player Clayton "FinalShowdown" Chapman has returned with a new solo exhibition for Ryu in MvCI.

The roughly five-minute video is focused solely on what Ryu can do by himself in MvCI: no stones, no tags. It turns out the so-called "regular guy" can do pretty solid damage without anyone's help.

As the video is called "part 1," it seems that Chapman will be putting out another video or videos in the future. Readers can check out his YouTube channel for some of his other combo videos and watch the Ryu one after the jump.

Monster Hunter stalks her prey in Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite

During Tokyo Game Show 2017 Capcom showed off gameplay of the upcoming Monster Hunter character for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite.

Monster Hunter fights with two small swords, a huge two-handed sword and a bow. She can fire arrows as projectiles on the ground, into the air like Hawkeye or while jumping. She has flurry attacks using the small swords as a special move and also has a command roll, either forward of backward, using all three punches or kicks. Her command normal, forward+heavy punch, is a slow, chargeable attack with the big sword which has armor on it.

Meanwhile, Monster Hunter has five super moves. The first is several attacks with her big sword, the second and third are rush supers—one in the air and one on the ground—using the small blades that also act as install supers, the fourth is an arrow attack reminiscent of Hulks Gamma Quake and the last is her level three super in which she combines all her weapons in an attack that destroys an explosive barrel next to the opponent.

No date was given for Monster Hunter's release at this time, but readers can check out the character's trailer after the jump.

Character tutorials help teach the basics for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite

The official Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite YouTube channel has uploaded small introduction videos for each character in the new game.

The videos, which are all under four minutes long, give a quick overview of a character's moves and special abilities before offering one basic and one advanced combo for players to use in learning the fighter. The videos also offer a suggested Infinity Stone to use with the character as a way to help boost the hero or villain's strengths.

While these videos may be simplistic to legacy players of the Marvel vs. Capcom series, they could be a great help to players looking to play their first Versus game.

Ultron Omega is the final boss of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite

Capcom has given Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite a fitting final boss for its arcade mode.

Ultron Omega is the final enemy in MvCI, joining Apocalypse, Onslaught, Abyss, Galactus and Yami as the final adversaries for games in the Vs. series. He is a continuation of a Vs. series tradition in that he is a hulking figure so big that only his head and arms are visible when the fight takes place. He is also a clever callback to the final form of Sigma from Mega Man X5.

Like the other bosses of the Vs. Series, Ultron Omega delivers ridiculous damage in his attacks. He also alternates between infinity stones throughout the fight.

Readers can check out footage of the battle, courtesy of the Resero Network, after the jump.
