Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition adds character Kage & balance update following Capcom Cup 2019's conclusion

With this year's Capcom Pro Tour coming to an end, the company has introduced new content to Street Fighter V so players can get ready for next year's CPT season.

Presented by Capcom's Yoshinori Ono, the first part of this delivery is a balance update for the SFV cast. You can check out the changes over at Capcom-Unity.

The follow-up was the addition of a character to the SFV roster. Kage is the manifestation of Ryu's temptation to the Satsui no Hado. Kage has many similarities to Evil Ryu from Street Fighter IV but tuned for SFV. He is packaged with his own story chapter as well as additional outfits.

Players need to download the latest application update and update the in-game version to 04.000. While the balance update is free for all users, Kage is not part of season three so he must be paid with 100,000 fight money or $5.99 USD. It's currently unknown if Kage will be packaged as part of a potential season four character set.

Check Kage's announcement trailer and break down video after the jump!

New update brings reduction in SFV input lag, increased stability

The promised lag reduction update for Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition has been released, and with it has come new numbers for players to crunch and observers to judge.

According to both DisplayLag and WydD, the game's lag has been reduced by one frame—down from just above six frames with monitor delay to roughly five on PlayStation 4, or five to four without adding the monitor. While a comprehensive PC test has not been done, WydD also estimates that it too has seen a decerease of almost half a frame.

In addition, WydD also notes that the game's stability has increased, meaning that there a now less lag spikes that shift the average delay of the game.

What all this means is that SFV should now be a smoother, more responsive experience than ever for its players, but those who weren't fans before will not likely be tuning in to find a radically different game if they were hoping for one.

Wrestling cruise to hold SFV tournament, winner battles Kenny Omega

An upcoming cruise event taking place at the end of October 2018 will offer attendees a chance to play against pro wrestling's Kenny Omega in Street Fighter V.

The Chris Jericho "Rock 'N' Wrestling Rager" will sail from Oct. 27-31 and feature pro wrestling, live music and comedy as it travels from Miami, Florida, to Nassau in the Bahamas. In addition, it will also be the site of the "Kenny Omega Invitational" Street Fighter V tournament, where players will compete for a chance to play New Japan Pro Wrestling's current IWGP champion in SFV.

Interested readers can check out the cruise's official website for more details on pricing, guests and entertainment.

Those hoping for an easier—and perhaps cheaper—shot at playing against Omega will have to hold out hope that his affiliation with Community Effort Orlando continues in 2019.

Street Fighter V coming to Japanese arcades in 2019

Although the newest version of Street Fighter V is subtitled Arcade Edition, the game will only finally be making its debut in Japanese arcades next year.

Capcom released the information at the end of the Street Fighter V event at Tokyo Game Show 2018 with a short video, which not only showed off the game on a Taito Vewlix cabinet but also made sure to reveal that there will be USB ports for players to hook up their own pad or stick.

No more concrete information on the game's release is available at this time, but according to Eventhubs it will be based on the current console version and tests of the game will begin "the weekend of October 5th to October 7th in five locations — Taito Station Shinjuku South, Plaza Capcom Kichijouji, Nagoya Leisure Land, Sega Namba Avion Osaka and Round One Fukuoka."

With Japanese arcades getting the game, it would also stand to reason that the many Round One locations in the U.S. will be getting it as well, but for now nothing is assured.

Sagat, G now available in Street Fighter V

The last two characters of Street Fighter V's third season are now available for players.

G is an online content producer who considers himself "President of the World" and utilizes a special, three-leveled Presidentiality meter that will buff his attacks. However, getting knocked down will reduce the meter, so G has to be careful. His V-Skill is G Barrier, a force field which launches opponents into the air and absorbs projectiles, and his V-Triggers are Maximum President and Dangerous President.

Maximum President sets G's Presidentiality to level three, allows him to use G Barrier as a projectile and gives him the ability to cancel special moves into one another. Dangerous President gives him two new moves: G Explosion, a move that can be cancelled into from any other special and launches the opponent into the air, and the G Rage command grab.

G is joined in the update by Sagat, a longtime fan-favorite character in the Street Fighter series. No longer part of Shadaloo, Sagat's only desire is a rematch with Ryu when both are fighting at the highest level. Sagat retains his classic move set in SFV, with Angry Charge now being his V-Skill.

His first V-Trigger is Tiger Charge, which grants him the use of the special Tiger Cannon projectile and creates for strong control and combo potential. The second, Tiger Assault, gives him the armored Tiger Spike which can be charged to break an opponent's guard and Tiger Rush, an enhanced version of Tiger Knee Crush.

Both G and Sagat will cost players 100,000 Fight Money or $5.99 each. Readers can check out their trailers after the jump.

Listed, hidden changes join Cody with new Street Fighter V patch

The new patch bringing Cody to SFV is now available, and along with the upgrades and additions it has made changes to the game's balance.

Capcom has listed several in-game changes to character abilities, most of which are slight corrections such as Menat now being allowed to buffer commands a bit earlier to make up for timing windows or Kolin now being allowed to activate her first V-Trigger off the Frost Spike chain. However, Loïc "WydD" Petit dug into the game and discovered some unlisted changes including a nerf to Akuma's standing medium kick that makes it -4 on block.

Readers can check out Petit's list on Twitter. He is unclear on what some of the changes he has found mean, and hopes players of those characters might be able to help him discover the extent of the changes.

Street Fighter V update brings Cody, Devil May Cry costumes, Fighting Chance and changes to Survival Mode on June 25

Cody will coming to Street Fighter V a day earlier than expected, and he's bringing with him several new alterations to the game.

The biggest changes revolve around the game's Survival Mode. Used to unlock colors for each character in the game and earn experience, Survival will now feature new consumables, called Battle Goods, that will help give players an advantage in trying to finish off the CPU opponents. There will also be new options to save progress during Survival and even spend Fight Money to continue if players are defeated.

There will also be a new Fighting Chance Mode added to SFV, where players can spend 500 Fight Money to get random prizes, including exclusive colors and costumes, Battle Goods and art from the Street Fighter series.

Lastly, Devil May Cry costumes are coming to SFV. Two of the new outfits, Ken as Dante and Ed as Nero, will available for $3.99 each on release. A final costume, Laura as Gloria, will only be available through the game's Extra Battle Mode. This means players will have to complete four weekly challenges in the month of July to unlock the costume.

Pro wrestling team battle in Street Fighter V now archived

The showdown between two of pro wrestling's well-known factions at E8 2018 is now archived on YouTube for anyone who missed the original broadcast.

The Elite—New Japan Pro-Wrestling's IWGP champion Kenny Omega and tag team champions The Young Bucks—battled it out with WWE's New Day—Kofi Kingston, Big E and Xavier Woods—in two Street Fighter V matchups. The first saw a crew battle between the two sides, and the second was a first-to-five-games stipulation match between Kenny Omega and Xavier Woods that would see the loser's team eat hot peppers.

The event, which lasted roughly an hour and a half, was emceed by Tasty Steve and featured commentary by James Chen and Yipes. Although it is certainly not the highest level of SFV play, the competition featured plenty of entertaining trash talk and commentary.

Readers can check out the video after the jump.

Cody coming to Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition on June 26, 2018

At the end of Street Fighter V at Combo Breaker 2018, Capcom showed off the first gameplay footage of Cody in the title.

The trailer contains a variety of moves from Cody's past Street Fighter appearances as well as Final Fight. His first V-Trigger, Sidearm, is all about his knife: it adds range to his punch normals as well as making them safer. His second V-Trigger, Dirty Coach, gives Cody access to a pipe item that dramatically increases the range of several attacks and allows him to toss rocks like he could in Street Fighter IV.

In addition to the in-game footage, Kenny Omega of New Japan Pro-Wrestling stars as Cody in a live-action segment.

Cody will be available separately as well as through the season three character pass on June 26, 2018. In addition to his main outfit, he will also have additional outfits such as his nostalgic prison garb from Street Fighter Alpha 3 and IV and his iconic Final Fight clothes.

Readers can find out more information about Cody at Capcom Unity or watch the trailer after the jump!

Additional changes from recent SFV: AE patches detailed

The April updates to Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition apparently brought more changes than originally listed, as a new post by the developer indicates.

While Capcom listed the original changes that would be part of the balance update on April 3, some alterations were left off the list. Fifteen characters are affected by the omissions, with those changes now being listed in a PDF on the Capcom website.

However, according to datamining of the newest patch that was released with Falke on April 24 there are still unlisted adjustments for Akuma, Abigail, Blanka, Laura, Ryu, Sakura and Zeku. These changes, which include a buff to Abigail's crouching jab, can be found along with all the other changes in a handy color-coded format on Google Docs.

Free as a bird: Falke descends into Street Fighter V on April 24

The third character in SFV's Season 3 will join the game at the end of April 2018.

Another escapee from Shadaloo, Falke fights with a staff and comes to Street Fighter sporting different controls much like Ed. Holding and them releasing punches yields one of three projectile attacks, while pressing two punches gives her a move similar to an uppercut and two kicks allows her to vault forward using her staff.

Falke's V-Skill is Psycho Trombe, which spins her staff in front of her. This can be cancelled into from normal attacks and also reflects fireballs. Her first V-Trigger is Staerken, a two-bar Trigger that alllows her to use buffed versions of her projectile attacks by pressing HP+HK. Her second V-Trigger is Psycho Angriff, a three-bar Trigger that will immediately pop opponents into the air and gives Falke access to new moves Psycho Sturm and Klinge.

Readers can check out Falke's trailer below. As with other DLC characters, Falke will cost players $5.99 or 100,000 Fight Money separately or $29.99 as part of the Season 3 Character Pass.
