Capcom Pro Tour 2018 schedule, details unveiled

Capcom has revealed the dates and rules of the upcoming Capcom Pro Tour 2018. As has become the standard, 32 players will qualify for Capcom Cup, with the tour starting at Final Round.

Qualification for Capcom Cup is much like it was in 2017: only six spots at are guaranteed, with four going to regional finals winners, one to a last-chance qualifier at Capcom Cup and the final spot going to reigning champ Mena RD. The other 26 competitors will be decided by the global points leaderboad.

Regional Finals events will see a change in 2018, however, as they will now be broken down into two events: an open-entry tournament that will grant points toward the global and regional leaderboards, as well as a location-restricted Regional Finals Top 8 that will see the players with the highest point totals in that region compete for a spot at Capcom Cup.

Players can view Capcom's season teaser trailer after the jump, and can find a full breakdown of the 2018 system at the Capcom Pro Tour website, along with the schedule of offline events.

Chun-Li dons Star Gladiator attire as new Extra Battle costume

The next crossover costume has been revealed for Street Fighter V and it sees Chun-Li dressed as Star Gladiator's Jun Lin Milliam.

Star Gladiator was a 3-D fighter first released by Capcom in 1996. It spawned a sequel, Plasma Sword, and most fighting game fans will remember its main protagonist, Hayato Kanzaki, from Marvel vs. Capcom 2. As with other Extra Battle costumes, players will have to complete four weekly challenges to unlock Chun-Li's new costume in SFV.

The Jun costume Extra Battle Challenges start on Feb. 15, and there will be additional Shadaloo soldier challenges to help players gain Fight Money or level up a character. Readers can head to Capcom Unity for more information including specific challenge time frames.

Welcome to the jungle: Blanka joins Street Fighter V on Feb. 20

Capcom has unveiled the trailer and release details for the second of SFV's Season 3 DLC characters, Blanka.

Blanka returns in Street Fighter V appearing similar to his SFIV incarnation, but he has one major tool added to his arsenal: a command grab. Blanka's V-Skill is his Coward Crouch, which now has two follow-up abilities that can be used to either attack or advance on his opponent. His first V-Trigger, Jungle Dynamo, powers up his ball and electricity so that they do more damage and create juggle states for additional hits. His second V-Trigger, Lightning Beast, gives him the ability to follow any ball with a new move, Rolling Cannon, that can be angled in any direction. It is very reminiscent of Jon Talbain's Beast Cannon from the Darkstalkers series.

Blanka will be available separately or as part of the Season 3 Character Pass. Readers can check out his trailer after the jump.

Capcom announces fixes coming to next Street Fighter V update

A number of gameplay-related bugs have been discovered by Capcom in the time since the release of Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition, leading to future corrections by the developer.

These fixes will include small changes like combo scaling alterations for Laura, Ibuki and Urien but also much larger ones like the removal of Uriens accidental Tyrant Blaze invulnerability after armoring a hit using his Metallic Sphere V-Skill. Abigail, meanwhile, will no longer be able to activate V-Trigger on the first hit of Abigail Punch and his Metro Crash will have its armor reduced to two hits.

Capcom says these changes will be in the game's next update, but does not have a release date announced at this time. Readers can head to the Capcom website for the full list of changes.

Official patch notes reveal changes for Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition

Street Fighter V's major update arrives on Jan. 16, 2018, and Capcom has unveiled that changes that will be coming to the game's system and each individual character with that patch.

In terms of the game's system, Arcade Edition will give a general buff to regular throws by increasing their active frames from two to three frames and hopes to reduce the usefulness of V-Trigger activation combos by increasing the damage scaling. There will also be added recovery to command throws, and more alterations to jump-ins and moves used to anti-air opponents.

Individual character changes are numerous in Arcade Edition, and while damage and recovery values are mentioned with concrete numbers there are plenty of moves that have received more vague mentions of hitbox or hurtbox "changed." In this way it will be harder to gauge the depth of many character tweaks until players have Arcade Edition in their hands.

Arcade Edition will also include frame data in training mode when players turn on Attack Data, and players can also have it shown on the characters by having the fighter with advantage turn blue while the one with disadvantage turns red. Readers can find the patch notes for Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition at Capcom Unity.

Sakura graduates to the Street Fighter V roster on Jan. 16, 2018

Capcom has released the gameplay trailer and information about Sakura, who will launch as the first DLC character of Street Fighter V's Season 3 on the same day that Arcade Edition becomes available to the public.

Sakura retains most of the same moveset she wielded in Street Fighter IV, but has gained the Tengyo Hadoken, a fireball shot diagonally upwards that can be used as an anti-air. Her V-Skill is Haru Kaze, which functions almost like a demon flip and grants her a throw, a divekick or her signature Sakura Otoshi. Her first V-Trigger, Haru Arashi, powers up her fireballs by giving them both an additional hit that leaves opponents in juggle state, and her second trigger, Sakura Senpu, allows you to follow up her Shouoken and Shunpukyaku with her V-Skill for more damage.

As with previous seasons, players will be able to buy Sakura separately or as a part of the Season 3 Character Pass. Readers can check out the Sakura trailer after the jump.

Gameplay details reveal the secrets of Zeku's ninjutsu

Capcom has posted gameplay details on Zeku ahead of his release in Street Fighter V on Oct. 24, giving players more information on the character's moves and abilities.

Zeku's ability to switch from his older form to his younger comes from his V-Skill, which also teleports him either in front of or behind his opponent depending on the input. Zeku's two forms are very different: in his older form Zeku has slower moves but retains a flip move similar to Guy's for mixup opportunities, while in his younger form he is much quicker and has a short run like his student.

Zeku's V-Trigger, meanwhile, is a special dash that allows him to follow up with a "custom combo that deals additional hits." His V-Trigger does not change depending on whether is he young or old.

As with other characters, Zeku will release with both a Story and Battle costume but he will have a Nostalgia costume as well. For more information, including pictures and gifs of Zeku's abilities in action, readers can head over to Capcom Unity.

New Street Fighter V costumes, stage, music arrive on Sept. 26

With October 2017 fast approaching, Capcom has readied a second wave of Halloween costumes for download in Street Fighter V characters along with other costumes, a new stage and more.

STREET FIGHTER V FALL 2017 COSTUMES

There are a lot of new costumes coming to SFV in the update. First are the new Halloween costumes, with outfits for Urien, M. Bison, Birdie, F.A.N.G and Dhalsim. Then there are new school clothes for Menat, Cammy and Ed. There are also two more outfits for Cammy—Shadowloo doll and SFIV nostalgia costume—and three for Chun-Li—Interpol agent, sleepwear and a "relaxing outfit."

The new update will include a new stage—English Manor—that seems like it may be a callback to Cammy's stage in Super Street Fighter 2, along with new background music packs for people who want to change how SFV sounds.

The new costumes will cost players $3.99 each, while the new stage will cost either 70,000 Fight Money or $3.99. Capcom will also be making 2016's Halloween costumes and stage available as a bundle for players who missed out.

Capcom releases gameplay details on Street Fighter V's Menat

Additional light has been shed on how SFV's apprentice fortune teller will play right before her release on Aug. 29.

Menat's V-Skill is named Soul Reflect - Kamal and is an ability that normally deflects normal fireballs but once her crystal ball has been set it will simply absorb the projectile, giving Menat more V meter. Kamal can also be used to "launch the opponent into the air to help extend combos."

Menat's V-Trigger, Wisdom of Thoth, offers some interesting possibilities. The orbs that surround her are each controlled by a normal attack, and "pressing and releasing of [a button] sends the sphere linked to that attack flying at the opponent." From the wording it's tough to tell whether players will be able to use an attack but continue holding down the button until they choose to release and let the orb fly. If so, Menat will have some interesting combo and pressure setups that seem reminiscent of Zato-1 from the Guilty Gear franchise.

As with all other characters, Menat will release with both a Story and Battle costume. For more information, including pictures and gifs of Menat's abilities in action, readers can head over to Capcom Unity.

The future is now: Menat comes to Street Fighter V on Aug. 29

Capcom has released a new trailer for DLC character Menat just days ahead of her release to the public.

Menat is a fortune teller that has previously appeared as a character in Ed's story mode. In Street Fighter V she fights with the aid of her crystal ball, using it as a projectile then calling it back to pull enemies closer to her. The ball is also part of her normal attacks, which may create different hitbox properties depending on whether she has the ball equipped or not.

While it is unclear from the trailer what her V-Skill is—it could simply be sending the ball out and then retrieving it—, her V-Trigger generates a field of six orbs around that can be used to continue combos much like Batman's bats in the Injustice series. Her V-Reversal, meanwhile, is a teleport that goes behind the opponent.

Readers can check out the Menat reveal trailer after the jump.
