Capcom Pro Tour DLC mystery costume revealed, prize pool increased

Capcom has revealed the unknown costume it teased as part of CPT downloadable content during Evolution 2016, and announced that more money has been added to Capcom Cup.

First off, the Pro Tour DLC has allowed Capcom to add almost $90,000 to the Capcom Cup total for an overall prize pool of $342,182. This total reflects that a "minimum of 30% of the revenue will go to the Capcom Cup 2016 prize pool."

Second, the mystery costume has been revealed as a "Japanese warlord costume" for Necalli. Capcom Cup 2015 winner Kazunoko was able to decide which character received a new costume and offer comments on its design. This privilege will also be extended to the winner of Capcom Cup 2016.

Capcom details August, September Street Fighter V updates

Haunts has revealed what Capcom has planned for players in the next month and a half.

In a post on Capcom Unity, the director of digital media and esports at Capcom USA revealed that after server maintenance on Aug. 16 the company will implement a more strict rage quit policy. This new plan will cause offenders to "lose League Points and be locked out of online matching for a set time."

In September, a much bigger update is planned for SFV. In addition to new double Fight Money events that will benefit players in Ranked, there are a number of smaller tweaks coming to the game. These changes include a versus CPU option, daily challenges for Fight Money and easier access to costume colors. Previously only available through the Survival Mode, additional colors will be available to Season Pass holders and those who buy premium costumes will now get all the colors for that outfit. Additionally, color bundles will be offered for Fight Money or purchase.

For the full details, head over to Capcom Unity.

New info on Street Fighter V's story mode revealed, Zenny system removed and more

Capcom has released more information about Street Fighter V's cinematic story mode planned for release this June, as well as some other important information.

STREET FIGHTER V STORY MODE SCREENSHOTS

SFV's story mode, "A Shadow Falls," will be released late June as a free add-on for all users. This cinematic experience, Capcom said, will span five chapters and last three to four hours overall. While still planned for release in their respective months later this year, the story mode will be the only place to try out unreleased characters Balrog, Urien and Juri.

Following trouble implementing the Zenny system, Capcom has scrapped it entirely and replaced it with a more streamlined method of selling DLC. The June update will allow players to buy additional content through either the Steam store or the PlayStation Store. This includes characters ($5.99), stages ($3.99), alternate versions of stages ($1.99), story mode costumes ($1.99) and premium outfits ($3.99). Players who have gathered a huge amount of fight money or purchased the Season Pass can reap the benefits with no extra charge.

Capcom hasn't yet shared an exact date for the big update. Other news includes Daily Challenges being reorganized into a new system called Targets as well as additional modes coming soon. The full breakdown can be found here.

Hit The Ground Running 13 discusses meter management

Brokentier's Jay "Viscant" Snyder continues his series on improving at Street Fighter V with a topic that is essential to high-level play: meter management.

Snyder talks about the two types of meter, Critical Art and V, weighing various strategies he's seen employed and theories behind why each choice could be beneficial to certain characters or matchups. From using these meters as offensive tools alone to actually holding meter as a deterrent, Snyder admits the answers of how meter should be used are not clear-cut.

Snyder even makes a point to talk about why he feels M. Bison is an exception to many rules because his meters seem to work together in way unique to his character.

The article, along with all other HTGR pieces, can be found at the Brokentier blog.

Ibuki's trailer shows her returning moves along with a new air glide and the ability to throw multiple kunai in the air or on the ground. Her V-Reversal is the ninja log replacement technique that also serves as a hit, and her V-Trigger throws a bomb that can be used to extend combos.

New site collects all of Graham Wolfe's Street Fighter V tech videos

Longtime Street Fighter player Graham Wolfe has spent the time since SFV's release updating his Twitter with various strategies and bits of information about the game.

The videos he has made, while never very long, often bring light to a previously undiscovered vulnerability in seemingly spammable or strong options for each character, and have even shown new versatility in other moves.

As it can be tedious to scroll through Twitter looking for one video, Wolfe has made all of these tweets available for players to find quickly on his own WordPress site. This is a great resource for SFV players looking to gain a deeper understanding of the game.

Capcom Pro Tour 2016 rules updated, published

Capcom has updated and made the full rules of CPT 2016 available to the general public, from the tournament format to the code of conduct players must follow.

While most rules should be familiar to experienced tournament players, there are a few important distinctions that have been made. First off, Capcom has officially barred sponsors that are involved in adult entertainment and leaves the door open to ban any other sponsor "Capcom deems inappropriate at its sole discretion."

Second, the company has also banned any form of gambling at the events, with violators to be ejected from the event and possibly banned from CPT.

The company has also taken a stance against swearing, violence and "other forms of thuggery." The rules can be found at the Capcom Pro Tour website.

The Japanese player announced on his livestream that he will be part of Red Bull in conjunction with his current sponsor Mad Catz. This relationship will expand beyond being part of the fighting game team.

The first initiative of this collaboration is the English translation of Umehara's first book, "The Willpower to Keep Winning." It will be available first at this year's Evolution. Notes on fighting Karin with Ryu in Street Fighter V by Daigo

After Justin Wong's victory at Dreamhack Austin, Jiyuna posted the translation of Daigo Umehara's notes—from a stream recorded early in April—on how Ryu can effectively fight Karin in SFV.

Daigo's notes focus on attacking Karin at ranges Ryu will outperform her in terms of damage and threat, which he feels are in close as well as outside the range of her normals. He even talks how Ryu should choose to move against the character—dashing and jumping, never walking—and why sweep can be a strong tool in the matchup.

While the notes are perhaps not as extensive as some players might hope for, they still can offer competitors a place to start against a difficult character.

Street Fighter V Guile trailer released

After details about Guile's appearance were released on April 18, Capcom has released a trailer that gives players a better idea of how he will work in SFV.

The one-minute trailer shows that Guile retains most of his normals from Street Fighter IV and it seems that chains like low forward to overhead still exist in SFV.

Players also see Guile's V-Skill, which buffs his fireballs much like Ky's grinders do in Guilty Gear Xrd, and his V-Trigger in action. The trailer mostly shows the trigger used in combos, but it will be interesting to see other possible application.

Lastly, Guile's new crouch walk, faultless move, makes an appearance. Check out the trailer after the jump.

April Street Fighter V update brings Guile, rage quit system

Guile will be the second downloadable fighter in Street Fighter V, as he releases with the game's April update.

The biggest change to Guile in SFV seems to be the addition of faultless move, a crouch walk that allows him to maintain charge while moving forward. His V-Skill is Sonic Blade, a stationary projectile that has the added ability of increasing the durability of Sonic Booms. Guile's V-Trigger is Solid Puncher, where upon activation each of his buttons throws a different speed Sonic Boom.

In addition to Guile, Capcom will also be rolling out its rage quit system to punish disconnecting players. The system will target players who have a high disconnect rate and lock them out of matchmaking for a certain period of time.

There is no release date for the April update at this time. For the complete write-up on Guile, head over to Capcom-Unity.

Capcom responds to Street Fighter V content criticism

Yoshinori Ono has heard the complaints about Street Fighter V since its release.

In a recent interview, Ono admitted that "it's safe to say that we underestimated the popularity of some of the single-player features" that were missing when SFV launched and that Capcom is working to rectify those issues.

"The Capcom Pro Tour wasn't the only reason for why the game was released when it was," Ono said. "We understand that if we had more features ready at launch, it probably would've been better received by some of our more casual fans who tend to enjoy Street Fighter more via single-player content, as opposed to competitive play."

Ono pointed to Survival and Story modes, saying that Capcom has plans to expand those options for players demanding a more robust single player experience and that the company looks at SFV like "a marathon and not a sprint," with plans to work on the title for years to come.

Capcom unveils Alex, forthcoming Street Fighter V update details

Alex and a new patch will be showing up later in March, according to a post by Haunts on Capcom Unity. In that post, Haunts gave some details about the returning grappler as well as improvements coming to the game.

For starters, Alex will appear in Street Fighter V as "a methodical grappler who can do big burst damage up close, yet still do well at midrange." His V-Skill seems a modification of his Third Strike taunt, where Alex performs an animation and the next attack will do bonus damage if it hits. Alex's V-Trigger, however, is a brand new option for the character, as he gains access to a clothesline attack that can be charged to parry moves and breaks the opponent's guard if they block.

The update will also add Challenge Mode—complete with various skill-level tutorials and character trials—, eight-player lobbies in Battle Lounge, an online rematch option and allow players to spend their hard-earned Fight Money in the in-game Shop.

Street Fighter V's new update will also add several bug fixes, along with gameplay changes designed to limit the usefulness of possible throw tech option selects. For a complete list of changes, check out Capcom Unity.
