Destructoid Unboxes the Limited Edition Version of Soul Calibur V
Destructoid got their hands on the limited edition of Soul Calibur V and unboxed it on their livestream for all to see. They thought it would be a good idea to unbox the game by pieces as they play matches of the original Soul Calibur and Soul Calibur IV.
If you rather skip all that and go straight to the unboxing (recommended!), you can skip to 1:12:09 and 1:26:46 for a display of the case innards, and the artbook, respectively.
You can watch the slow unboxing of this game after the jump.

New Japanese Soul Calibur 5 Trailer Features Cinematics and Story Mode
The release of Soul Calibur 5 is drawing near, with only a bit over two weeks to go. To keep series fans' souls burning, a new Japanese trailer has been released for the game. The trailer showcases the game's story mode and cinamatics. Some of the voice over is in English, but the majority of it is in Japanese. Even so, it is exciting to watch if you are a fan of these elements of the previous games. As a fan myself, I can't wait to see where they take things. The game releases in North America on January 31st! Thanks to Soul CaliburTV for the video!
SCV: Pre-Release Party in San Francisco on January 24th is Open to the Public
Namco Bandai Games is putting together what looks to be a pretty sweet pre-release party for Soul Calibur V right here in San Francisco on Tuesday, January 24th. It's taking place at 111 Minna which is a cozy little joint right downtown -- super easy to get to from BART and such. The event is open to the public but you have to be 21+ to enter so all you young bucks looking to get your hands on the game a little earlier than others are out of luck. You can still watch all the action online though as there is a live stream planned for the event.
SCV: IGN's Visual History of Soul Calibur Characters
IGN put together a really cool "blast from the past" sort of feature for Soul Calibur V that showcases the various wardrobe changes the returning cast has gone through since they first appeared in the series. As you'll see, even the more straightforward characters such as Siegfried and Mitsurugi have gone through pretty drastic style changes over the years even when compared to some of the more wild outfits Yoshimitsu and Voldo have received from game to game.
Check out the full feature by clicking here.
Soul Calibur V on Destructoid's Mash Tactics
Namco Bandai community manager Filthierich visited Destructoid to play some Soul Calibur V on their livestream.

Something that was newly revealed was the training mode, which looks more comprehensive and richer than in the previous game.
Lastly, they mentioned there would be no demo.

Soul Calibur V at Southtown Arcade Replays
If you guys missed our special Soul Calibur V exhibition live from Southtown Arcade last night, the replays are now cut up and live on TwitchTV. We'll be getting these up on YouTube shortly as well but I figured many of you probably want to check these out ASAP.
Huge thanks to NAMCO BANDAI Games and FilthieRich for helping us put this together on such a short notice. It was amazing to see so many people come out and support the game when we only had a few days to promote. Special shoutouts to 8WayRun for helping spread the word as well.
Also, I apologize if the commentary on my end is a bit rudimentary, but I wanted to help give insight about the new system for people like myself who haven't played a Soul Calibur since it was on the Dreamcast. That said, Hates and FilthieRich hold it down for all you vets a little later in the broadcast. Check out both videos after the jump!
MSXBOX-World Previews the Arcade and Character Creation Mode of Soul Calibur V
Msxbox-world has put out two Soul Calibur V videos showing the arcade and character creation modes. One new feature shown in the arcade mode video is the Route feature that will make only characters from either Europe or Asia appear on your playthrough, if you so choose. There's the option for a standard route.
The character creation mode video shows the new menu options available as they make a "chunky female warrior". Excited to make your own chunky character?

As many of you know, Namco Bandai broadcasted a live stream earlier today which featured all the newly announced characters. The replay is now live and some kind souls have gone out of their way to even add time stamps to the video (even if they are off by a few minutes each). I have to say, I've never been the biggest fan of Soul Calibur but this footage definitely piqued my interest as characters like Xiba look like a lot of fun to play. Check it out after the jump!
