The one positive note in Australia's classification refusal of Mortal Kombat 9 is that a lot of information about the game can be mined from the board's documents explaining the reasoning behind the decision. fernoca from NEOGAF was kind enough to sift through it and pick out some pretty nifty details about the game, so big thanks to fernoca! Here is fernoca's summary:

Story Mode
-Is around 15 hours long.
-Story focuses on "Rayden" (Raiden :p) trying to prevent the events that lead to Armageddon.
-1-on-1 fights against opponents with cutscenes in between fights explaining the story.
-There won't be fatalities in this mode. Like in the previous games' "story modes", character reappear later; so it wouldn't make sense to decapitate Baraka during the MKII part of the story, to then have him reappear later.

Characters and Fatalities
-25 characters (no mention of being starting roster, or playable characters excluding bosses that won't be playable. Even giving 4 fatalities to those 25 characters, that's 100 and the report mention over 60 fatalities.)
-Report confirmed Kabal and Quan Chi.
-Characters start with 1 fatality, you unlock the rest as you play. Up to 4 fatalities can be unlocked.
-There are over 60 fatalities in total.

There are other modes (like a regular arcade modes) and things in game, the things discussed in other threads. The ones listed are technically the new things from that report. They barely mentioned tag team and versus mode; since the focus was more (obviously) in the violence.
