NetherRealm Studios Relocating Mortal Kombat 9 Online Service From GameSpy Servers

The latest Mortal Kombat will be moving to a new online service as a response to the upcoming closure of servers on GameSpy.

Developer NetherRealm Studios is in the progress of transitioning Mortal Kombat 9 from the GameSpy platform, the game's original multiplayer service. According to the official Mortal Kombat Facebook page, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC MK9 players "may experience an interruption of online play and matchmaking and we ask for your patience during this time." The PlayStation Vita version after May 31, 2014 will only have multiplayer through an ad-hoc network.

This decision came following the announcement on April 2014 in which GameSpy owner Glu Mobile will terminate all legacy servers on May 31, 2014. Publishers and developers also have committed to migrating some of their own games to newer services. Another fighting game that featured the GameSpy platform was the PS3 version Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Online Edition; It was later removed in the latest major update.

Mortal Kombat 9 "Has Now Sold Close to 3m Units Worldwide"

A bit of news surrounding the sales of Mortal Kombat 9 surfaced today via NeoGAF, with WB Interactive President Martin Tremblay stating that Mortal Kombat 9 has sold "close to" 3 million units worldwide in a short interview in MCV.

We've known for a while that Mortal Kombat 9 has done very well sales wise, but this number is pretty staggering considering the amount of time the game has been out. With these kind of numbers, I don't think anyone will be too surprised if we end up seeing more versions of the game in the future as Tremblay adds that "Mortal Kombat has already paid for the acquisition of the Midway assets and we are just beginning to leverage this acquisition with much more to come."

Below you can check out sales numbers for many other fighting games that have hit the market over the years:

MK9 Video Tutorial: Reptile Act.2 - Bug Control

xxbeholderxx uploaded a really crazy Reptile tutorial video that not only goes over some relatively basic stuff but also a few bugs that Reptile has. In short -- well, until it gets patched anyway -- when the opponent blocks a close EX Force Ball, it seems to stay "active" and you can push them into it for a mix-up or they can simply be hit by it themselves if they run into it. I know, it sounds really weird so you just have to watch the video to see how it works.
