« Injustice: Gods Among Us Designed with EVO in Mind & Dev Team has Tournament Players, Says Ed Boon »
I don't think that many will argue that the tournament scene, and how big that audience is getting thanks to social media and live streaming, has a tremendous impact on the success of a modern fighting game. So it's little surprise when NetherRealm Studios, the developer behind the recently announced 3D fighting game Injustice: Gods Among Us, publicly states that the game is being developed with features aimed at EVO. NRS' Ed Boon has said so in a recent preview with Kotaku. In addition, Ed says that there tournament players that are on the development team as well.
Mortal Kombat, despite having some problems early on with online play and DLC costumes, turned out amazingly well and these kinds of statements bode well for this new game. Check out the quote below or head to Kotaku for their preview.
And there's also this from Boon regarding the game's depth: "There are guys on our team who are tournament players and there are certainly layered features for those EVO guys and all that stuff in there. That's a big part of our strategy." Boon and his Netherrealm studio's Mortal Kombat games have never been the fixture of fighting tournaments like EVO the way Street Fighter has, but it sounds like he wants to edge into that scene more, with the most recent MK and with this one.
