« Young Filipino Tekken Player AK Feature By Games In Asia About His Performance & Support »
Media site Games In Asia had the chance to talk to the Filipino player Alexandre "AK" Laverez following his third place outing in the Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Global Championship 2013.
The 13-year-old Tekken player made waves for his strong performance at the world finals tournament and placing third place next to notable South Korean players JDCR and reigning champion Saint. AK talked to Games In Asia about his early beginnings with the original Tekken Tag Tournament, his preparation for the biggest Tekken tournament of his life and the support given from both his parents and the school he currently attends.
You can find an excerpt after the jump but you can find the full piece here! You can also find a 2012 interview with him here!
AK is not only surrounded by a supportive family, but also by supportive mentors. His school, St. Paul College of Parañaque, is right behind him on the road towards a successful competitive gaming career.
"St. Paul College of Parañaque is very supportive. They know that I won third place in Korea. They congratulated me this morning and my class adviser told me I did well."
While St. Paul College of Parañaque doesn’t promote Tekken with tournaments or related extracurricular activities, offering moral support and recognition for their students in the field of eSports is something few schools in the Philippines do, and I’m sure this encouragement means a lot to AK.
