CvS2: KYSG Combo Video

An old time gamer named KYSG decided to make a combo video recently for CvS2. Some of these setups might not be very practical to use in a real match, however they are very interesting nonetheless. I have uploaded a compliation of all of his CvS2 materials onto my Youtube page. Embed Video after the break.

The videos are divided into three parts, starting with Maki's glitched Alpha Counter. Whenever Maki gets struck during her Alpha Counter animation, she will happen to air reel into a jugglable state where just about anything will combo afterwards. This leads to some interesting combos that are otherwise not possible.

The second part of the video focuses on combos that can be performed after landing a meaty hit from behind when the opponent crosses up. The concept comes from the huge frame advantage of certain moves, and the hitbox of that said move that extends to behind your character. Also applicable are moves that extend a character's hitbox forward into the meaty move but doesn't actually hit the other person. This is actually quite applicable to a real match depending on your character's meaty attack and situation (Sagat's c.hp comes to mind as being a common move that applies to this). If you are quick to realize this, you can capitalize into a huge punish!

The third part of the combo video focuses on the low hitstun on Rolento's Steel Rain super, and having it interrupt your combo in order to put you in a position to extend your damage potential.

Again, if you have not already, check out KYSG's Youtube Channel where he performs combo videos on multiple games, including CvS2, 3S, Alpha, and even obscure games like World Heroes!

CvS2: Kansai Ranbats 12/17/2011

Ibaraki VIP has had annual CvS2 ranbats for quite some time now in Japan for the people that still love this classic game. Held in Kansai, these group of hardcore players had a 2v2 Team Tournament for the last month of 2011.

Although there is a fair share of your standard teams, there are quite a few that stick out. Yuujirou and Deshi Kitsune have decided to team up to use what I call, Team Chunky, with K Zangief, Chang, and Raiden! Other notable deviations include Kodama's K-Dictator, which is normally reserved for A Groove due to his strong Custom Combo.

So go ahead and check out my Youtube Channel for more CvS2 match footage!

Happy New Year everyone!

CvS2 : GAME VERSUS Ranbat Part 3

Merry Christmas everyone! I hope you all have happy holidays because I am happy to give you more Capcom vs SNK 2 videos this weekend! This set of footage contains some matches from the Game Versus tournament that Japan recently held, as well as casuals that feature some of country's best players. If you missed the first two sets of uploads you can click here and here to see them!

Although there has been a great representation of every Groove so far, there has been no N Groove. Tsugunosuke however, is here to remedy that situation showing that this underrated Groove can still hang with the best. He has his work cut out for him however, as he is facing both Ohara and Gao's agressive playstyle. Those that are following the footage might remember Yane! He busts out his insane K-Haohmaru from out of nowhere, saying to everyone not to write this character off as a pushover.

If you enjoy what you see, remember to check out my Youtube Channel for more updates on CvS2 related media and “Like” what you see so more people will find high quality CvS2 in their searches! Check out the preview and the playlist link after the jump!

SNK Denies Rumors, To "Continue Publishing For Many Years To Come"

News hit the web a couple of days ago that SNK Playmore's Masaaki Kuniko had left the company, and with the news came a report by Dream Cancel that the new president intended to shut down the video game division to focus on porting older titles. This obviously painted a grim picture for the prospect of King of Fighters XIII seeing a console release, but it looks like there might not be reason to worry.

TRANSLATED CHANGELIST FOR KOF98UM: FINAL EDITION

The latest issue of Arcadia features a changelist for each returning character in The King of Fighters 98 Ultimate Match Final Edition, which is set to hit Japanese arcades this Winter using Taito's NESICA Live service. KOF98UMFE is an update to 2008's The King of Fighters 98 Ultimate Match, which added new characters to the roster of the original KOF98 (including the 96 Boss Team) as well as the new Ultimate mode, which allowed players to mix and match subsystems from the traditional Advanced and Extra modes from KOF98.

Thanks to BurningKyo at SRK for the translation!

NEOGEO BATTLE COLISEUM (XBLA): NEW VIDEO AND IMAGES

A handful of new images and a video showed up recently on SNK-Playmore's official website for the upcoming XBLA port of NeoGeo Battle Coliseum. If this is your first time hearing about this port, SNK-Playmore is applying an "HD filter" to the game to help alleviate the rough, pixilated art which is present in most of their games prior to King of Fighters XII.

Although you have to commend SNK-Playmore for their efforts on the visual end of this game, we can only hope that they put just as much effort into the online play. Typically SNK games are nearly unplayable online due to netcode so this is a good opportunity for the company to finally prove to their fans they can provide a game that not only looks good, but also plays well online.

King of Fighters XII first impressions

King of Fighters XII should be widely available in your local Gamestop despite the official July 28th launch date. Is it worth running out and grabbing a copy right this minute? You might want to wait. Read on...

I have been playing the X-Box 360 release of KoFXII since last night and in many ways the game is fantastic. The new sprites are beautiful, especially when in motion. Offline versus matches are really fun. I am still exploring the new additions to the classic gameplay, but so far it's been very rewarding. With the good comes a little bit of bad though. Most of my online matches have been nearly unplayable. What I mean by that is severe input lag--even on the character select screen. I would say that on average there is a ~15 frame lag on during my online matches. To contrast with other fighting games I play online I'm almost always able to find 4 or 5 bar matches in SFIV and in BlazBlue it's rare that I ever encounter any perceptible lag. In regards to the problems people have been experiencing the KoFXII facebook page issued this statement:

"King of Fighters XII: We understand that there have been some concerns raised about performance during online play. A patch for the both platforms is being worked on which should help with those gamers experiencing issues.

While I don't have an exact date for the Xbox 360 version, the PS3 patch should be available by the street date July 28, 2009."

The game doesn't feature much of a story except for a generic newscast type cut scenes that play between the five matches that make up arcade mode. Aside from that all that is left is versus and practice. The focus in KoFXII is obviously the offline and online versus modes and the latter isn't much use right now. Hopefully a patch will come out and I can give this game the review it deserves, but until then it's offline only for me, and unless I have a friend over, there's just not that much to do.

RETROWARE TV: THE HISTORY OF SNK

I found this 3 part series through Cyberfantix earlier today and it's pretty interesting to watch. At first I thought it was an older documentary of some sort but they mention KOFXII a little later in the series so it's pretty thorough and up to date. Check it out:
