STREET FIGHTER 4 C. VIPER COMBO VIDEO

The next installment in our series of combo video tutorials for 1UP.com MyCheats Street Fighter 4 Super Guide is complete, this time showcasing the combo madness that is C. Viper! A lot of these combos take some practice to execute 100% of the time (or even 80%!) so be prepared to spend a lot of time in training mode to get them all down!

KING OF FIGHTERS XII US TRAILER

Some great game play clips in this debut trailer for the North American release of KOFXII, but feels like it's missing some "bounce" in its step for some reason.. Hmmm!

Check it out.

CUSTOM STREET FIGHTER 4 CABINET FOR SALE ON EBAY

One of the Street Fighter 4 cabinets from the launch party in LA has found its way to Ebay and is now up for sale. Its a customized "Akuma Cab" with official arcade board, custom art and beads and even a fog machine.  Right now the bids are under $700 with 4 days left so this could be a real steal if you keep an eye on it!

Keep in mind this is the arcade board so it wont have all the console characters. they also mention you will have to install a console of your own and wire the joysticks if you want to play the console version

GLITCHY STREET FIGHTER 4 COMBOS

With any CAPCOM 2D fighter there are inevitably some combos and/or aspects of the game that make you wonder if the programmers intended for it to be in the game or if it was just a... glitch! Like Urien's Agies Reflector nonsense in Street Fighter 3, this first video I suspect is a combo that just fell through the cracks - an infinite loop with Fei Long that only works on Abel and Seth!

The next one is a bit harder to tell, it's a combo with El Fuerte that picks his opponent up off the ground after a throw which allows him to combo into super. Intentional or not, who cares, just check it out!

Thanks to VERSUS CITY for the heads up on both these videos!

EVO2K9: BOOK YOUR ROOM AT THE RIO FOR LESS

EVO2K9 is being held at the Rio this year, which is the same, great hotel that I stayed at for EVO2K7. The only problem was that EVO that year was held at the Green Valley Ranch that was only, oh, a 40 dollar cab ride away.  Okay so I'm still a little bitter about paying so much to go back and forth, but it is a great hotel, much better than the Tropicana where EVO was held last year and I'm happy its the home of EVO2K9.

Anyway, the event organizers posted that you can start reserving your room a discounted rate, so I would jump on it quick. EVO really isn't that far away now and you don't want to be that guy with out a room, passed out on the slot machine!

VERSUS CITY: STREET FIGHTER 4 TOP 20 POWER PLAYERS

VersusCity posted a list of the top ranked players in Japan right now, and big surprise, Daigo is still at the top with 169,720 battle points. I haven't even broke 5k battle points online and this guy has about 25x as many points playing against the best players in the world! Another interesting aspect of the list is that one player shows up twice using two different characters. Overall still a good mix of character even with 7 Sagats on the list.

They also post the longest consecutive win list from players in Japan, and if you thought the UK kid who got 108 wins was impressive, you should check these guys out - it will blow your mind.

STREET FIGHTER 4 SUPER GUIDE: BEHIND THE SCENES

I posted just last week that we wrapped up the Street Fighter 4 Super Guide  for 1UP.com's MyCheats, and yes, it was a lot of work, but well worth it! If you're interested in how much work went into it, 1UP is running a podcast now called "at1UP" that talks about what goes on behind the scenes at their office. Mike Nelson, the editor over at MyCheats, goes into detail the day in and day out routine that we went through to get the guide out by the deadline. Working with Mike, Richard and Kurtis at 1UP during all this was awesome, all super cool guys who were more than accommodating to all my needs. MadCatz Joystick for combos? You got it. Red Bull? You got it!

You can download the full MP3 here, and the Street Fighter 4 talk starts at about 2 minutes in!

IPLAYWINNER FORUMS NOW ACTIVE

If you look to the right you'll see I've added some links for threaded discussions on the site, so of course feel free to make new threads or ask questions in any existing threads. You don't have to create an account so the moderation is extremely loose here. Although I would love to have a more robust system with avatars and all that (that may be coming down the line), I wanted to at least offer a system that allows our readers to have more direct communication with the senior members/players on this site so we can answer any gameplay related questions you may have.

Right now it's divided into three self explanatory forums, but if you would like to see another forum added just let me know and if it makes sense I'll set it up!

ATTN CAPCOM: ADD QUARTER MATCHES TO STREET FIGHTER 4

I'm usually not one to complain but I feel this is something that seriously needs to be added soon to Street Fighter 4's online mode: Quarter Matches.

If you're not familiar with "Quarter Matches", it's essentially a feature that is present in Street Fighter 2: HD Remix that allows multiple people to join a lobby to not only rotate  to play the winner of the previous match, but also chat and spectate as well. After playing a week of Ranked matches with random people all over the world, sometimes I'd rather round up 4-5 people from my friends list and just make a lobby with people I know personally.

As I understand it there will be a Championship Edition DLC coming out in the near future that will allow you to run tournaments, but this is not the same as having a lobby rotating with multiple players. Perhaps they haven't announced the Quarter Matches yet, but I cant imagine it being that much harder to alter the tournament lobby so it will work as an on going rotating lobby.

I'm sure I'm not alone when I say I'd rather have this feature than more downloadable costumes!

STREET FIGHTER 4 CHALLENGE MODE VIDEOS

Having trouble completing a Challenge for a particular character in Street Fighter 4? Well, knowing the timing of a certain combo can certainly help, so check out this YouTube Channel with all the Challenge mode videos for each character.

I'll post the El Fuerte and C. Viper videos just to show that these videos are legit. This guy performs the El Fuerte loop first try and the last C. Viper combo is one of the most difficult combos in the game for sure!

AOU2009 UPDATES: KOFXII VIDEOS, NEW SEGA 2D FIGHTER "PROJECT CERBERUS" AND ARCADE BOARDS

The Japanese arcade expo AOU is going down right now in Japan and news of upcoming projects is being revealed through some sources on Shoryuken.com. Most of it is relating to SEGA with their new 2D Fighter "Project Cerberus" and their new arcade boards, RINGEEDGE and RINGWIDE.

Right now the two arcade boards are powering a new mech game called "Border Break", but who knows if one day it will end up powering Virtua Fighter 6.

A video also showed up for the new 2D fighter from SEGA showcasing a couple matches and characters from the game. Most of the characters look fairly bizarre and honestly the game appears to still need a lot of work at this point.

See for yourself:

On the SNK-Playmore tip, looks like the arcade release for King of Fighter XII is April 09, and no word on a console release yet, although it was at one point slated for May '09. Below are a couple videos of gameplay vs the CPU to hold you over for the time being.

HOW TO FIND HIGH LEVEL PLAYERS ONLINE FOR STREET FIGHTER 4

So after a day or two of playing people who apparently haven't played Street Fighter since Street Fighter II I started to get a little frustrated in that not only was I only getting like, 6 BPs per win but I really wasn't getting the practice I was hoping for.

Well, thanks to a tip from a friend of mine in Japan he said most high level players just search for games and do not make lobbies themselves. So the best thing to do is set the match making to search for players More Skilled and make a lobby of your own and just wait. After I set things up like this pretty much all my matches have been against players with BP higher than 2k or so.

iPLAYWINNER's STREET FIGHTER 4 GUIDE AVAILABLE ON 1UP.COM MYCHEATS

I posted about a week or two ago the link to the 1up.com My Cheats Street Fighter 4 Super Guide and it's now live for everyone to read!  I know many of you have just picked up the game over the past day or so and this is a great way to get a heard start on everyone else who is playing right now.

I've been lucky enough to be able to play some really talented players here in California over the past 6 months on arcade, and have had access to the console version for quite sometime as well so this guide is a direct result of all those hours of play. Of course there was a lot of learning along the way so it was a real fun project that helped me up my game on all fronts.

None of this would have been possible without the help of Richard Li (great Bison player, wrote the Bison, Rose, Rufus, Dhalsim and Ken guides) and Mike Nelson over at 1up with both of them being more than accommodating and giving me anything I needed to get the guide out on time.

Keep an eye on the guide over the coming weeks because we have a couple more surprises for it that should show up soon. Any feedback on the guide is obviously more than welcome! Enjoy!

iPW ARTIST "XAVI" FEATURED IN STREET FIGHTER 4 BOX ART

So I really haven't given a proper introduction to Xavi, the guy who has been doing all the sick art for iPlayWinner, but if you're not familiar with him, he is not only an artist for EA Games but also one of the selected winners for CAPCOM's Street Fighter 4 box art contest. Not too surprising since his art stands out so much compared to what is typically seen these days.

Congratulations Xavier!

TEKKEN 6: BLOODLINE REBELLION PLAYABLE IN SAN FRANCISCO "SOON"

So living in the Bay Area I check the Pacific North Matchmaking thread on SRK quite frequently, and to my surprise I found out today through a thread in that forum that Rack - N - Cue at SFSU will be upgrading their Tekken 6 to Bloodline Rebellion sometime "soon". I typically hit that arcade once a week so if this turns out to be true I'll be sure to take a photo as soon as it shows up.

STREET FIGHTER 4 SELLS 86,000 COPIES FIRST DAY IN JAPAN

Updated on Friday, February 13, 2009 at 7:07PM by Registered Commenterhaunts

Updated on Friday, February 13, 2009 at 11:01PM by Registered Commenterhaunts

Looks like things are off to a good start in Japan for CAPCOM's Street Fighter 4 with the game selling 86k copies between the PS3 and 360 version. The game is still got edged out by Soul Calibur 4 that sold 92k copies first day, but the PS3 version of SFIV sold more first day then Soul Calibur 4 did. These sales numbers are more than double VF5's first day of sales at 42k.

I think Street Fighter IV will have a lot longer life cycle than either of the other games mentioned due to its iconic characters and over all accessibility.
