CAPCOM BLOG HINTS AT US STREET FIGHTER IV EVENT FEAT. SAKURA

The official CAPCOM blog updated today with some high res pictures of Sakura in Street Fighter IV but that is not the most interesting part about this post. S-Kill writes: "Could US Street Fighter fans get a chance to play her next week?  Stay tuned..."

This could mean a couple different things:

  • Console location test somewhere in the states.
  • PSN/XBL demo (I doubt it)
  • US arcade board updated with Sakura (yeah right)

I personally hope they end up hosting an event like Fight Club in LA here in the bay area. I know a lot of people had fun at the Fight Club and judging from the photos, CAPCOM really went all out for that event. Although that would be cool if it they hosted another one in my general area, I would be just as happy with a full on PSN demo!

TRIUMVIR'S DENJIN ARCADE TOURNAMENT WRAP UP

TRIUMVIR, the shop that makes all the fresh Shadowloo gear, took a bunch of photos and made some comments about the event that went down this past weekend at Denjin Arcade. I had no idea they sponsored top Street Fighter players like Alex Valle!

STREET FIGHTER IV FRAME DATA PROGRESS

Any of you who are interested in the Street Fighter IV Master Guide and what's included in it should head over to SRK where some significant progress has been made in the translation. You will probably have to go back and forth between the two threads to get the full picture, but at the very least bookmark each thread and check back periodically to get see the updates.

TATSUNOKO VS CAPCOM: COMBOS AND GAMEPLAY SYSTEM

So this is a clip of two matches from Tatsunoko VS Capcom from the official Japanese site, so I assume this is something the developers put together.

A couple things to take note of:

  • Round One combo with the Chun-Li to Ryu assist. Very stylish.
  • Advancing Guard technique that allows you to get some breathing room when being rushed down.
  • Baroque technique which I assume allows you to continue a combo after a special move at the expense of your recoverable life bar depleting much fast.
  • Mega Crash technique which appears to be a combo breaker that uses up two bars of your super meter.

Thanks to Ookami-Kun from NeoGAF for the link.

LEGEND OF CHUN-LI OFFICIAL JAPANESE SITE

I pulled this bit of news from the CAPCOM blog earlier today. This is the official site for the upcoming 2009 movie, Street Fighter: Legend of Chun-Li. I am personally not too excited about the movie but hopefully it will be worth watching.

GOOTECKS.COM: STREET FIGHTER PODCAST UPDATE

Gootecks went ahead and interviewed Ed Ma and Ken I. in his latest Street Fighter Podcast and picked their brains about frame data among other things. The first 45 min to an hour is all dedicated to the Street FIghter IV Master Guide, what's in it and understanding frame data.

A lot of players, both veterans and newcomers, feel that frame data is not necessary to win, is a waste of time and essentially takes too much time to understand.  While I agree you don't have to know frame data to win in these games, after spending some time with Virtua Fighter I have found it can make your life a lot easier in the competitive fighting game world with at least a basic understanding of what is safe and what is unsafe. Ed Ma gives an in-depth run down of what frame data is and a lot of practical applications of using and understanding frame data. With that being said,  set aside an hour and a half and get ready to take some notes!

IGN: PLAYERS WANTED: STREET FIGHTER IV

IGN has written up an article on the characters they would like to see in Street Fighter IV. Although I agree seeing Yun and Yang in SFIV would be a nice surprise, some other parts of the article are a little puzzling.

First off, Gouken/Shen Long has been confirmed to be in the game now for weeks. Maybe they had written this up before the announcement was made? Not too sure, but even still, he will most likely be playable along with Seth in the console versions.

Next, they list Cammy and ibuki which to my knowledge have more or less been confirmed by Yoshinori Ono to be in the console release. Ibuki I am not 100% on but I am positive Cammy has already been confirmed at this point.

I am not too concerned about returning characters at this point, personally. I am more interested in CAPCOM adding 4-6 new characters to the roster. I assume we will see an update of that magnitude in the 2nd revision of this game but not in this initial release.

TAKE CHUN-LI "HOME"?

Okay, so the title is a little tasteless, I know, but it was the description of the video on GameTrailers.com and I thought it was funny.

Anyway, this whole video is in Japanese, so I'm not really sure what details Yoshinori Ono is going over here, but it looks like elements of SFIV will be in SONY's HOME application for the PS3. I doubt this will have any affect on the game itself, and if anything it will probably distract players from leveling up their game but we'll see. The real question is.. is HOME ever coming out?

Thanks to Igotdembombs on SRK for the heads up.

NEWCOMERS BATTLE

I don't see this match up all that often, with all the Sagat, Ken, Ryu, Bison...well you get the idea. I found this video on SRK a little earlier today, and the El Fuerte is worth checking out, especially considering he is up against a top tier character.

He goes for the infinite at around 35 seconds in, missing the second hit, he mixes it up with the slide instead of going for another blocked fierce punch. Check it out:

WIRED.COM TATSUNOKO VS CAPCOM REPORT

Looks like wired.com got their hands on TvC at TGS '08 and they aren't too pleased with the controller layout, saying the three attack buttons and one assist button is too simple. Interesting complaint considering I havent really heard it being an issue with most players who have tried it. One has to wonder if they are aware that the button layout for Virtua Fighter 5, argubly the most complicated fighting game out there, is only 3 buttons.

Alright, tons of new info coming form SRK today on BlazBlue.

EDGE MAGAZINE TGS '08 TOP 20: SFIV & KOFXII

EDGE Magazine released their top 20 games of Tokyo Game Show '08 and two fighting games ended up making the cut: Street Fighter IV (9) and King of Fighters XII (4). Over all the article seems a bit rushed: a lot of thoughts all over the place for each game, with no real concrete reason why the games are on the top 20 list to begin with. Either way it's good to see these two games getting more coverage.

REBALANCING STHD CHAPTER 13: DHALSIM

Chapter 13 of the Behnid the Scenes: Rebalancing Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD has now been updated on S-Kills blog on the Capcom Community website. In this chapter Sirlin discusses changes in the Dhalsim's control motion, super damage, and new move properties.

"Dhalsim’s Yoga Fire was--and still is--qcf+p. The Yoga Flame command is a bit too similar in ST, though. The half-circle-forward sometimes comes out accidentally if you’re not careful when trying to Yoga Fire. To correct this, later Street Fighter games changed the command to half-circle-back + punch. To be consistent, that means the Upward Yoga Flame is half-circle-back + kick, and the super is hcbx2 + punch."

MARVEL VS CAPCOM 2: ESRB RATED AND GOOD TO GO?

I've been holding off on mentioning anything about Marvel vs Capcom 2 coming to XBLA/PSN since it was pretty much a rumor..up until now.

A post on NeoGAF indicates that the ESRB has rated the game for XBOX360 and PS3, which means that unless it was a mistake (like the title leak on XBLA last week) the game should come out for both systems sometime soon.

Whether or not these verisons wil be arcade perfect or playable online has yet to be seen.

FOCUS ATTACK VS DEVIL REVERSE

One thing I see in this video (end of round 3) is how the Sagat player uses his focus attack to absorb the hit of Bison's Devil Reverse and lead right into a combo after the counter hit.  I have been wondering for a while how to punish the Devil Reverse since that move tends to give me problems when I play Bison players at the arcade. Also you should notice the Sagat player charges the focus attack each time Bison leaves the ground, and if Bison's move does not hit, he will just cancel the focus attack charge with a dash.

A CLOSER LOOK: KEN'S KARA-FOCUS ATTACK DASH CANCEL

KEN "KARA" MASTERSSo I'm sure some of you have seen or read about Ken being able to kara his focus attack dash cancel. He essentially gets twice the range while absorbing a hit with the focus attack. A low quality video surfaced of this technique earlier last week and there has been a lot of discussion around it. Now, thanks to Gilley on SRK (same dude who rigged a SFIV board to his HDTV) we have clearer videos of the actual technique. Beyond that he is demonstrating some other ways to apply the technique by including the kara-throw in all of this.

The technique is obviously really new so we have yet to see a practical application of this (although 2x the range on his kara-throw isn't a bad start), but I can already imagine people kara-FADC from half way across the screen into some seriously damaging combos.

STREET FIGHTER IV: SAGAT 101

So this poster by the name of scrubydan has been posting some solid Sagat strategies on SRK recently. I assumed he has been playing a lot, but I had no idea how much until he posted this picture. Takes me back to when I was quite a bit younger getting 70 win streaks on Killer Instinct and Tekken 3.

My highest streak in SFIV is with of course Sagat at around 13 wins about a month ago (F+RH into Ultra all day, son!). The competition is getting a lot better these days so it's harder to even break 10 now. Lucky for us here in the Bay Area we dont have a win-cap on our machines. After reading some different threads it looks like many arcades have win-cap limits of anywhere between 6 and 10. Business is business I guess!

GAMESPOT.COM TGS '08: TATSUNOKO VS CAPCOM PREVIEW

This was posted a day or two ago on Gamespot.com and I just found it tonight. Nothing too new but a pretty solid preview for anyone who hasn't heard much about this game yet. One thing they say is the game is completley playable with the Nunchuck and Wiimote... not sure how this possible but I guess we'll see once we all import this game!

EPIC TATSUNOKO VS CAPCOM POSTER

Pretty dope poster I found on NeoGAF a little earlier today. Same request as the calendar: if you picked up an extra one at TGS let me know! I'll even settle for an image with out the time stamp.

Another poster on NeoGAF photshopped a mock-Wii box art for the game using the same image. Take a look:

AKSYSGAMES just launched a BlazBlue site with some new combos from the game. The videos are short but real high quality so be sure to check them out.
