STREET FIGHTER II PINBALL GAME COMING TO XBLA

This isn't something I expected to see, but it appears CAPCOM is going all out in promoting the Street Fighter franchise in the following months. Kotaku is reporting Zen Studios has teamed up with CAPCOM to develop a Street Fighter pinball game for XBLA. Reading the article it sound pretty fun so I'm sure I'll check it out when it drops.

Some details on the game:

* Enter the World Warrior Championship fighting as Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, and Guile and battle against Sagat, Evil Ryu, Vega, and Balrog, then win the final round of the championship against M. Bison!
* Discover special combo shots, animated punches, kicks and special moves as you fight against opponents using ramps and a variety of orbit shots.
* Multiple in-game challenges featuring objects, art and memorable items from Street FighterTM II.
* Table soundtrack, sound effects and voices from the original Street Fighter II.
* Brand new hot-seat multiplayer.

GEN & CAMMY ADDED TO STREET FIGHTER IV ROSTER

So Cammy we've known about for a while through numerous hints from Yoshinoro Ono, but Gen is a surprise! This more or less confirms Yun or Yang wont make it to the game but hopefully Gen will be a hybrid of the two characters in SFIV.

Check out Gamed.nl for the rest of the screen shots!

STREET FIGHTER IV PRINT ADS

I saw these last week and not too sure why I didnt post about them earlier. Most of these are pretty corny but I really liked "Return of the 15 Foot Pimp Slap"! Check out the rest at Kotaku.

TATSUNOKO VS CAPCOM ROSTER UPDATE: HENSHIN-A-GO-GO, BABY!

Looks like Viewtiful Joe is coming to Tatsunoko vs. Capcom according to Dengenki! I always thought Viewtiful Joe would be perfect for this game due to its art style and combo system. Also being added to the roster are Saki (MVC assist and Quiz Nanairo DREAMS card game) and Tatsunoko character Ippatsuman.

Learning The Other Side Of The Coin: Rushdown vs. Turtling

Updated on Monday, November 3, 2008 at 9:21AM by Registered Commenterhaunts

Thanks to Ryan from Gootecks.com for writing this up. We plan to have more of these articles that will help you up your game in the coming weeks and months, so stay tuned!

Think about whether you play a rushdown or turtling style. Then think about how much you know about both. Chances are you are much better at one or the other, but there are situations where it would be to your advantage to play the style you are weaker with.

Let's say you play a rushdown style such as Alex Valle or Pyrolee. You probably know all kinds of things such as correct poking distances for the attacks you're using, what their options are in any given situation, how to make them whiff throws/moves, etc. But do you also know similar tactics for turtling such as when to sit on a lead, the mental fortitude to not hit a button for 5-10 seconds at a time and what pokes are best for keeping them out?

By improving your skills at the style you're weaker at, you'll be a more rounded player who is able to adapt to more situations easier, as well as win more because you'll either be able to survive longer or do more damage more effectively.

EVO2K8 DVDS UP FOR SALE.. SOON!

According to Kiets at SRK, it appears the EVO2K8 DVDs are right around the corner and should be up for sale in the coming months. I'll say right now that this DVD is worth it for the top 8 of Super Turbo and CVS2 alone. Some really exciting, legendary matches in both of those games all around, and not to mention John Choi taking both games as well.

I'm a big Third Strike fan and there were some really good matches in the Third Strike pools from what I saw but I'm not sure if they made it on the dvd. Regardless, if you're an up-and-coming Chun-Li player you will want this DVD for sure.

Ill post up when the DVD's are for sale, but in the meantime order yourself a copy of the SBO '08 Virtua Fighter 5 R DVD.

1UP.COM: GOUKEN TIMELINE WITH NEW SCREEN SHOTS

GOUKEN / SHEN LONG1UP posted a timeline of Gouken bundled with some new screen shots.

You wouldn't think anything productive would come from a series of mistranslations, improvised backstories, and outright plagiarism, but you'd be wrong. The story of Sheng Long's a hallowed tale, well documented in the annals of gaming history. Born from a translation error and perpetuated by a legendary gag from our very own EGM, Sheng Long (or Gouken, as he's officially called now) finally makes his first playable appearance in Street Fighter 4. To accompany these new Gouken screens, we figured we'd delve into the past and see exactly how he made the jump from an April Fools' gag into an actual character.

STREET FIGHTER: THE LATER YEARS BECOMING A TV SHOW

Street Fighter Devotion posted up a video recently with an interview of Mike Fass (Zangief) who is talking about creating a spin off TV series of the highly popular College Humor internet series. It sounds like they will be introducing original characters and possibly characters from Street Fighter IV. Check it out:

SUPER STREET FIGHTER II TURBO: HD REMIX COMING IN NOVEMBER

So, looks like I am pretty much right on the money with my prediction of the release date. According to this blog post on CAPCOM's official blog, Kramez says the game is coming in November. I am still banking on it coming out during Thanksgiving due to people being home for the holidays with plenty of free time to play 2 player games with family and friends.

More updates as they come!

STREET FIGHTER IV BOSS Selectable FOR CONSOLE RELEASE

I think this has been more or less confirmed for a while now but according Japanese site GAMEWATCH Seth is officially a playable character in the console release. I highly doubt you will see much of him in tournament play but since no one has been able to play as him yet there is always a possibility that he isn't that much more powerful than say Sagat or any of the other top tier characters.

If you haven't had a chance to play against Seth yet, his move list is composed of juiced up versions from the rest of the cast. Here is the move list rundown pulled from from GAMEWATCH:

  • Guile's Sonic Boom
  • Shoto Dragon punch (3 hits if I remember correctly)
  • 'Giefs Spinning Pile Driver
  • Dhalsims Teleport
  • Chun-Li's Lighting Legs

I wont spoil what his Ultra is (well, I already did if you look hard enough!) but its one of the more entertaining super-moves in any street fighter game that I've seen so far!

Now all that is left is official word on Gouken!

GAMESPOT'S ULTIMATE STREET FIGHTER SHOWDOWN PART 2

Alright, so the second video of the event has been released. The gameplay in this video is quite a bit better (Graham Wolf beasting!) than the last one but the commentary is still questionable (Throws are cheeze!?). It's still all Super Street Fighter II HD Remix, so maybe next week we will start to see some Street Fighter IV footage.

Check it out:

From Gamespot:

Sixty-four may enter, but only one may leave. When the world warriors assemble to determine who among them is the best there is, hadoukens will fly, tigers will be uppercut, and fools will be spinning piledrivered! GameSpot has teamed up with Capcom to run not one, but two Street Fighter premiere events: 64 of the best there are will duke it out in both Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix on the Xbox 360 and Street Fighter IV in genuine Japanese arcade cabinets for fame and $2,000 in fortune, and the winners will battle each other for a bonus $500 prize. Every week we'll unveil a new video from the tournament, so be sure to check back to find out who will be the Ultimate Street Fighter!

Also, if you missed it the first time around, be sure to read the iPlayWinner Gamespot SF Tournament coverage!

FIRST IMAGES OF DAN & FEI LONG IN STREET FIGHTER IV

Big thanks to long time Street Fighter training parner and friend EARWIG on SRK for the first shots of Dan and Fei Long in SFIV. They are small shots but pretty easy to make out the characters models. Fei Long looks real good and Dan is well... Dan!

These are from the newest issue of PLAY magazine which has Sakura on the cover so be sure to pick it up when it drops!

NEW STREET FIGHTER II: HD REMIX SCREEN SHOTS

Capcom released a bunch of new screens from HD Remix today. The game looks (and plays) real nice, so all that's left is a release date!

STREET FIGHTER IV VISUAL UPDATES FOR CONSOLE RELEASE

There was talk about Chun Li and Sakura receiving aesthetic updates earlier last week but it looks like there are now some comparison shots popping up online of..neither of them! First shot I've seen so far is actually for Guile, and the changes are somewhat subtle but I think over all for the better. I feel most of the characters in the game could use some minor tweaking in some areas, namely Ryu and Ken.

I hope they extend these updates to the alternate outfits as well. Most people are not pleased with the majority of the alternate outfits for the characters in the arcade release. Some are good like Balrog and Chun-Li's but others are just downright lazy like Ryu and Kens. I'm still on the fence about Sagat's but having 3 or 4 more alternate outfits to choose from would be great. One step at a time I guess!

PRE-ORDER NINTENDO WII JOYSTICKS

The two sticks being released from Exar are now up for pre-order on Play-Asia.com. They have two versions, one with Tatsunoko vs Capcom art and another without. The stick without art is a little cheaper and I assume may be a little easier put some custom design on.

Street Fighter 4 Console Release Date Rumor

Capcom has previously announced that SF4 would appear on console in the "Winter" with no further specifics.  According to Kotaku, Capcom's Australian Distributor has February 27, 2009 listed as the release date for SF4 on Console in Australia.  This seems fairly believable, and fits into both the actual season of Winter and Capcom's fiscal 4th Quarter (Jan 1, 2009 to Mar 31, 2009).  Time will tell if this rumor has any substance to it.

VIRTUA FIGHTER 5: BEST VERSION FOR PS3 (JAPAN)

So there are a bunch of threads popping up about a Virtua Fighter 5 Best Version coming out for PS3 in Japan. There is some confusion in that it is some sort of updated version of the game (ver. C or D), but it is not. Best Version in Japan is essentially what we have as Greatest Hits here in the USA.

If there happen to be any significant changes or updates I'm sure we'll find out soon but don't get your hopes up.

UPDATE: STREET FIGHTER CLUB NYC (VIDEOS, REPORTS)

So some reports from last night are showing up online already both on Shoryuken.com and CAPCOM's official blog. It sounds like the Street Fighter Club event was very successful and everyone had a great time, which comes to no surprise to me. The last one in LA did very well too so maybe they should keep hosting these types of events even after the game comes out!

A user on SRK, Zerul, happened to get some good footage from the event for both SFII: HD Remix and Street Fighter IV. Here is a video of Blanka vs. Justin Wong's Sakura:

NEW TATSUNOKO VS CAPCOM JOYSTICK

I assume most of you who are reading this blog are like me and have no interest in playing Tatsunoko Vs Capcom with the Wiimote or even the classic controller. If you're looking to import a joystick for the game, looks like according to the official CAPCOM blog one will be coming out before the end of the year.

Now as far as I know you can use GameCube converters to use your PS2 joysticks on your Wii but I have no idea how well these work. HORI also released some Wii joysticks but I also have no idea how hard those are to come by these days.

I'll update once these are available for pre-order.
