VF5FS: Console Patch Incoming to Allow Timer Skip in Player Matches

Reno over at VFDC posted that SEGA of Japan just announced that a patch is set to drop come August 7th that will allow players to now skip the 30 second timer in player matches. This was of course a big complaint from many fans as the 30 second wait meant you could not immediately rematch your opponent. Now you can press X (360) or Square (PS3) to bypass it completely.

No word on if or when this patch will be coming to other regions outside of Japan but it is said to fix a few other bugs which you can read about on VFDC

Virtua Fighter 5 FS Character Tutorial Videos

Sega has created new tutorial videos for Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown, this time focusing on specific tips and tricks for specific characters. These videos cover Jean Kujo, Taka Arashi, Jacky, Sarah Bryant, Lau and Pai Chan. Here's an example of a preview of Jean's video:

“Another great Jean move is his rolling kick performed with back forward kick plus guard. It is long range, safe on guard and causes stagger on normal hit. If your opponent is unable to shake of this heavy stagger, you can get foward punch, punch kick as a free combo. Eventually players will learn to shake out of this and guard your combo. Use this opportunity to throw your opponent or any other strategies you have learned in the previous section.”

You can watch the videos after the break, but pass by the Sega blog to express your gratitude. It's always appreciated when companies make tutorials for their games.

Here is the Top 16 Payout Breakdown for the Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown EVO2012 Tournament

As many of you know, SEGA put together one hell of a tournament at EVO this year by pumping $15,000 into the pot. The payout was spread out quite generously though, as the top 16 placers ended up getting a piece of the pie. This pot bonus drew in players from all over the world and had all of us here in North America training like crazy as soon -- and even a bit before -- the game was officially released.

Senior Producer Frank Hom posted a look back at how Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown made it on the big stage at EVO. Everything from the Southtown Arcade Ranbats to the official Launch Party on Los Angels played a part in pushing the game to new players and long time fans alike.

With that, they posted the "leaderboards" from the EVO2012 tournament and it details what the players came away with when the dust settled.  You'll see that while international players took most of the cheese, there were still a few North American players holding it down as well. Check out the breakdown after the jump and read Frank's blog post by clicking here!

VF5FS: Over 300k Global Downloads in First Two Weeks, New Interview Discusses 30 Second Wait in Lobbies & Status of Virtua Fighter 6

Those of you who are wondering about how well Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown is selling will be happy to know there have been over 300,000 global downloads in the first two weeks according to SEGA's Twitter. While there haven't been any numbers released for the North American sales, it seems the game has been a huge success all over the world.

Somewhat related, in a new interview on 4Gamer (currently being translated on VFDC), AM2 developers Daichi Katagiri and Takeyuki Haneda touch on a few topics that I think any Virtua Fighter fan will have an interest in.

VF5FS: The Daily Blow-Up - Half-Fence Throw Get

The latest Daily Blow-Up is now live on YouTube for you guys to check out if you missed the stream live yesterday. I made some good progress as I was finally able to land a half-fence throw -- twice! I'd been trying to land this throw for the pat week or so but could never set it up right until yesterday. I also was getting a little closer to getting some big damage near the wall but still need a bit more practice there.

Overall some good matches with everyone I played yesterday. Many of the players I had encountered before such as Kumubo who plays a mean Aoi, Jasonsmooth who is making some great progress with his Jacky and of course a few appearances from Kamais Ookin. I even ran into LA Akira and got some much needed high level Shun practice as well!

Check out the latest after the jump and tune ina round 4PM today for the live stream!

VF5FS: Online Ranking Title List from VFDC

Akai over at VFDC is currently compiling a list of online titles you will receive as you level up by playing Ranked Matches in Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown. He mentioned to me that he has translated all the rankings from the Japanese arcade version of the game but says that the meaning is completely different from the English version of the game. That said, he is adding in the titles as people discover them by playing and ranking up.

Right now I am a Raider as I just ranked up from Hunter a few days ago and the highest rank I've encountered online so far is Gladiator. The highest ranked titles that have been found so far in the English version are in the Maou Group which consists of  Avenger, Vanquisher and Conqueror.

What is the highest ranked player you've encountered so far? Let us know in the comments!

VF5FS: The Daily Blow-Up - Kawaii Kills

What is this crap? You guys seeing this?So the latest episode of The Daily Blow-Up is now live on YouTube and yesterday I ended up having a lot of fun playing despite going about 50/50 on my wins and losses and not really landing anything I set out to do. Hah! I was hoping to nail some wall combos this time around but still have a hard time setting up a stagger situation near a fence. I was also hoping to land a half-fence throw in a few matches but that didn't happen either. Oh well, there's always this afternoon, and tomorrow, and the next day.

Anyhow, I soaked up some much needed practice versus Tricky VFDC -- a very skilled Eileen player. I felt pretty helpless during the matches but going back and watching the losses I picked up a few things to watch out for so over all a good experience. I went 1-1 with Izuna Otoshi who a high ranked Vanessa player and picked up a few things there as well.

Overall, to me, this is one of the better sessions I've had so check it out after the jump when you get a few and don't miss the epic battle between Kamais Ookin and myself at the end!
