Gootecks.com: Street Fighter Podcast Episode 9

Gootecks's excellent Street Fighter Podcast has updated again today, with a new episode featuring Alex Valle, one of the greatest Street Fighter players around since the mid 90's.  This episode is about the history of the Street Fighter and Fighting Game community since the Street Fighter Alpha days.

Many players have heard about famous players like Valle, John Choi, Daigo, and other big names out there.  Here's your chance to hear about how things were and how they are today from one of the biggest names in the community.  For anybody interested in the FG Community as well as just the games themselves, this episode is a must listen and a great look at where it began and how things have evolved since then.

KARIN COMING TO STREET FIGHTER 4? (UPDATE: NOT LIKELY)

Updated on Thursday, October 23, 2008 at 12:19PM by Registered Commenterhaunts

Updated on Thursday, October 23, 2008 at 3:20PM by Registered Commenterhaunts

I pulled this up on SRK today over my break and actually had skipped over it the past day or two because Yoshinoro Ono's interviews are getting pretty redundant at this point. Well, turns out in this interview with Famitsu he hints at another character being added to the SFIV roster. The clue is that it is a character that only appeared in Street Fighter Alpha 3.

According to the Street Fighter Blog they conclude that the only possible character it could be is Karin. They mention Ono said no Final Fight characters will join the cast (I didn't know this) which means Cody is out. At the same time Gief's alternate costume is essentially Haggar so maybe there is a possibility there.Since we already have Sakura in the game, I personally would much rather see Cody (or Guy or Adon if we're talking all of SFA) than another school girl.

Even more than that though, lets be honest here, another returning Street Fighter? Really? We've already established at this point that two of the four new characters need a lot of work to be competitive, so why not work on some fresh faces that can actually put up a fight against Sagat and Bison?

CAPCOM STREET FIGHTER IV CONTEST: CALLING ALL ARTISTS

A lot of Street Fighter updates over at the CAPCOM blog today, (Halloween costumes? Really?) but the most interesting one I saw is the chance to have your art featured in the Street Fighter IV instruction manual for the PS3/360 release. They will pick the best two pieces of art to be featured in the instruction booklet, so that's pretty good odds if you happen have any talent. Looks like there will be other prizes as well, so I wouldnt be surprised if they hook everyone up who submits some art with some sort of consolation prize. They are taking submissions until Nov. 7th, which means you have about 2 weeks to whip something up.

Head over to the official Street Fighter site to submit your entry.

Alright, I guess this falls under fighting game news since that, well, this game is basically the most popular fighting game in Japanese arcades. I personally dont know much about it but 1up.com has written up a preview on the PSP version of the game. I will definitely try  to pick this up to see what this game is all about.

GAMESPOT SUPER TURBO HD REMIX TOURNAMENT: PART ONE

Looks like Gamespot has posted up the first video of the Street Fighter event that went down here in San Francisco earlier this month. It contains some player interviews and about 3 matches from the HD Remix tournament. Although some pretty funny parts, nothing too exciting gameplay wise but I'm sure some fierce play will show up later in the series.

Check it out:

STREET FIGHTER II: HD REMIX RELEASE DATE PREDICTION

So there has obviously been a lot of talk about when SF2: HD Remix will come out, more talk infact than about the actual game itself... or so it seems! As of today, a bunch of new screenshots surfaced that were sent out by CAPCOM and they stated that the game will be out "Very Soon" according to 1up.com.

STREET FIGHTER ALPHA 2 & 3 HEADING TO PSN?

I know not many people were all that excited about Street Fighter Alpha 1 coming to PSN a couple months ago, especially after CAPCOM hyped it up a bit, but I know SFA2 & 3 is a completley different story. According to 1up.com, Street Fighter Alpha 2 & 3 have been rated by the ESRB and are heading to PSN.

WORLD CYBER GAMES VIRTUA FIGHTER 5 JAPANESE BRACKETS

Browsing around the events section on VFDC I was reading up on the World Cyber Games and came across this blog post that shows the players and bracket list for WCG VF5 Japan. One thing that I think is really interesting is all the different titles these contenders hold. It just shows how much more active the VF community is in Japan compared to North America. Sure you have EVO Marvel champs, NEC Third Strike top placers, and even a thriving Tekken community, but VF5 really dosent hold the same sort of status in North America as these other games.

STEP ASIDE SIR, YOU CAN'T TAKE THAT ON THIS FLIGHT.My good friend Sterling over at GameSpy ended up grabbing me a little something from the CAPCOM store at the Tokyo Game Show last week. I met up with him at a club here in San Francisco last night and this i what he had for me. Between this and my audible Chun-Li keychain (which I had to take off due to  "Spinning Bird Kick! Yatta!" being heard from my pocket daily) I am pretty much set!

AKSYS GAMES BLAZBLUE VIDEO UPDATE

TATSUNOKO VS CAPCOM VIDEO UPDATE

CAPCOM updated their website with a new movie of Tatsunoko vs Capcom. This move is edited unlike the one earlier in the week to show each characters combos and abilities. The video is very well put together and worth checking out.

Also, on this same page, the player they have has slots for 3 more possible movies so I would continue to check back and see if they add anything in the following weeks.

NEW JAPANESE TIER LIST

So this tier list was just posted earlier today on SRK and there is already a lot of contreversy around it. Looks like compared to INO's list I posted a month or so ago there are some differences ('Gief not #1 anymore) but Claw is still at the bottom!

Thanks to kikkomanchow for the find!

LATEST ARCADE RANKINGS FROM ARCADIA MAGAZINE

TEKKEN 6 still going strong in Japan. Not sure why since most Tekken heads here in NorCal think the game is too broken to be taken seriously and are just holding out for Bloodline Rebellion. Good to see Virtua Fighter 5: R at number 3 anyway.

TGS '08: KOFXII PRODUCER AND VOICE ACTOR INTERVIEW

Cyberfanatix once again comes through with the fresh King of Fighters news. This is a translation of the "talk show" SNK held at the event with the games producer, art director and voice actors.

 What about the updated graphics?
(Nona): At the beginning, we were thinking about making the whole game in 3D, but we decided later to use the 2D Dot in order to respond to our 2D Dot and KOF fans. We then wanted to focus on high resolution characters and living crowded backgrounds.

What about the work on characters?
(Nona): If I do it alone, It would take me about 6 months to finish one single character. We are, currently, drawing with 4 times density , that's why everything is looking looking good so far.
(Ku): We want people to realize the time and effort that we put into the graphics, and pay attention to the muscles and facial expressions. I think they'll probably get the muscle-love fever after that (*laugh*)
Muscle-love fever, huh...? Interesting! Maybe something got lost in translation there.

STREET FIGHTER IV: FIRST PC SCREENSHOTS?

GAMESPOT posted gallery of SFIV images under their PC section. I'm not sure if these are actual shots from the PC version or just an error on their end. Either way, it looks exactly the same as all the other screen shots we have seen of both the arcade and console versions.

STREET FIGHTER CLUB: BROOKLYN, NY OCTOBER 24TH

First rule of Fight Club is... ahhh screw it, who cares..

After doing a bit of digging on the Sakura story, I found that there will be a Street Fighter Club event on the 24th of October in Brooklyn New York. This is most likely what S-Kill was referring to earlier today about Sakura being playable in the US sometime next week.

I live all the way across the country so I wont make this event but if you are going please let me know.
