Vote to See Your Favorite Fighting Games in WCG 2011

The World Cyber Games is gearing up for 2011 and is asking you which games you want to see next year! From the list you can choose from Tekken 6, Super Street Fighter 4, Marvel vs Capcom 3 and uh, some other games I've never heard of. They also have an "other" section where you can pop in a game not listed -- I chose King of Fighters XIII and you should too.

WCG Ultimate Gamer Episode 1 Recap

Justin Wong's audition tape for WCG Ultimate Gamer

I tuned in last night to check out WCG Ultimate Gamer and if you missed it, some of the results were somewhat suspect in regards to Justin Wong's placing in the Tekken 6 challenge. If you haven't seen the episode yet, you might want to stop reading now, but during the show Justin mentions he "never died" in the Tekken 6 challenge but ends up getting 3rd somehow.

Of course, this didn't make any sense, but Justin on his twitter account explains there was a time limit and he actually threw the challenge on purpose. Here is his tweet:

Hope everyone enjoyed todays episode. I didn't win the tekken challenge on purpose. Everyone else can figure out the rest.TUNE IN NEXTWEEK

Very interesting. What could Justin be up to? Top tier reality show politics?

WCG FIGHTER CLUB: SETH AND GOUKEN BANNED!

So this is interesting, World Cyber Games is throwing an event just for fighting games in New York City on April 25-26th. The games featured are Soul Calibur IV, Virtua Fighter 5, Dead or Alive and of course.. Street Fighter 4! The only thing is for Street Fighter 4 both Seth and Gouken are banned!

If you're not aware, yes both Seth and Gouken are boss characters in Street Fighter 4 but neither of them are completely overpowered. Beyond that, we have yet to see a Seth or Gouken win any major tournaments at this point! I am not sure what the line of thinking is behind banning these two characters but this isn't the first time this has come up. So far we've seen that many tournaments being thrown by organizers not heavily into the scene will end up banning both characters and even El Fuertes Run Stop Fierce Loop.

Either way it should be an awesome event with so many fighting games on display and  $500 on the line for each game. So if you're in NYC you should go check it out if you're even somewhat competitive in any of those games.

VIRTUA FIGHTER 5 RETURNS TO WORLD CYBER GAMES

Some more good news for Virtua Fighter 5 fans showed up yesterday with WCG announcing that VF5 will be one of the featured games in the international tournament this year. The interest for this game has waned over the past 6 months considering most people would rather be playing VF5:R (or any number of the new fighting games that are coming out) so hopefully this will revitalize the scene here in North America to some degree.

WORLD CYBER GAMES VIRTUA FIGHTER 5 JAPANESE BRACKETS

Browsing around the events section on VFDC I was reading up on the World Cyber Games and came across this blog post that shows the players and bracket list for WCG VF5 Japan. One thing that I think is really interesting is all the different titles these contenders hold. It just shows how much more active the VF community is in Japan compared to North America. Sure you have EVO Marvel champs, NEC Third Strike top placers, and even a thriving Tekken community, but VF5 really dosent hold the same sort of status in North America as these other games.
