Next Level - Brooklyn, NY - A Profile Series

This is what I hope to be the first of a short series of articles about one particular place that is very important to the fighting game community. I know it has been some time since I have been active here on IPW, but as anyone whos been following us knows, recent issues as well as the weight of handling many events takes its toll somewhere. However I hope to be able to give you more of a behind the scenes, inside look at what goes on as well as entice you to show up, or at least encourage your local scene.

In recent times, the New York area lost an important hub of Arcade Gaming, Chinatown Fair. This displaced many of the gamers who visited religiously and were left with nowhere to congregate.

Evolution 2011 was a great success for everyone in the scene. It took a lot of work on the part of multiple teams to both put this tournament and the footage together, so I hope that you can understand how special this particular set of videos are. Featuring many Evo moments, including DMG PR Rog hitting a perfect on EG Justin Wong, and resetting the bracket in impossible fashion against The Box Arena's Viscant.

East Coast SSF4:AE SBO Qualifiers at Next Level, NYC Sponsored by Twitchtv - This Saturday, August 6th!

Evolution 2011, as you guys already know, was an amazing event in every possible way. We are proud to have been a part of it, providing you the action! But despite hype meters still being off the charts, its time to keep it moving for us here at IPW x Team Sp00ky, as another important event is just around the corner.

This Saturday, for the first time ever, New York has a qualifier for SBO. For those who don't know, here's a little backstory. Super Battle Opera is the largest Japanese tournament every year. It features an invite only system, and to receive an invite you must win a qualifying tournament. Typically a very small amount of entrants are allowed for each game, so only the very best show up. This years Street Fighter 4 component is a 2 v 2. For more details on the tournament rules and format, check this out.

The Premeire New York fighting game tournament continues this Wednesday at Next Level, NY! For those of you who are going to be in the area, please check here for more information. The games featured this time around will be SSF4:AE (on cabinet) and Marvel vs Capcom 3 (xbox360). And for those of you who are looking to watch, the stream will begin at about 6 PM Eastern time.

PowerUp 2011 Mortal Kombat 9 Grand Finals on Youtube

PowerUP 2011 has passed, and the event left a mark to be remembered, both for the games and the controversial background. We have a feeling there will be news yet to come regarding the event and what happened on Sunday. In the meantime, those of you rabid for MK9 footage can enjoy this gem while we keep you updated.

This was an amazing event, as 70 + people packed in at Henry Cen's Next Level. There was a ton of action in Marvel Vs Capcom 3 Singles, as Well as Super Street Fighter 4 - Arcade Edition. Evil Ryu, recently released (officially) by Capcom, was available for play, with both DarthArma and EMP Chris G representing him.

Battle of 8 Bit & Up 10 MVC3 Singles -- 4/2/11

There are already a ton of events going on this weekend, but here's one we're adding to the fire! There will be a Battle of 8 Bit & Up event this Saturday, April 2nd in New York, New York. You can find information by checking out the Facebook Post, or hitting up the thread on SRK. We'll be streaming this event, with the stream scheduled to begin at or around 4 PM eastern at our usual Justin.tv spot. Be sure to come out if you're in the area, or if not, catch the stream!

Guard Crush Revival -- additional info!

It's been a long time since the last Guard Crush event, but things are finally coming together! The date of this event will be Wednesday, March 30th.  The stream will begin at about 6 pm eastern time at the usual place. Here is the Shoryuken.com thread, and a there is a Facebook post as well.

What makes this event special is it is a revival for the New York scene in general. It will be run at Henry Cen's new arcade Next Level. It is the return of a hardcore biweekly tournament series, and it features the return of some personalities that are clawing their way up the ladder for exposure at a time where fighting games are becoming more markettable. It will also be the first Guard Crush to feature both Marvel vs Capcom 3, and Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition.
