Bandai Namco, Capcom begin licensing deal over online matching

Capcom has announced a cross-licensing deal with Bandai Namco targeted at improving online play in versus games like fighters.

According to the company's press release, Capcom's intent with the new agreement is "to improve the user experience while accelerating the production of titles and reducing development costs for both parties."

What this means for players is that Bandai Namco and Capcom will now each have access to some work from the other company, possibly infrastructure, when developing online matchmaking in future products. If that is the case, the companies could build off one another's work to make a more stable online experience while saving money they would each separately use for development costs. However, what exactly is being traded between the two is a mystery for now as Capcom's release is both brief and vague.

This is of course not the first cooperation between the two gaming giants, as the companies have collaborated to create several different titles such as Project X Zone and Street Fighter X Tekken, and Street Fighter's Akuma is a guest fighter in Tekken 7.

With the recent reports of the U.S. getting Tekken 7 machines and the return of Tekken Crash, Bandai Namco is certainly making sure its newest fighter is making headlines across the gaming community. However, it seems that the company is not done yet.

The official Tekken Project Twitter account claims a big Tekken announcement will be coming on July 7. The tweet offered little other information, but did mention that the series recently celebrated its 20th anniversary and features an image that reads "awaken, raging fist."

For now, players are left to speculate what information could be forthcoming.

[UPDATE] E3 2014: Pac-Man to Join Super Smash Bros., Game & Watch Teased

During the Super Smash Bros. Developer Roundtable at E3, Nintendo has revealed a new character for the upcoming games: Pac-Man.

Pac-Man fights with basic punches and kicks, as well as pixelated fruit, ghosts and other classic Bandai Namco characters; certain moves can even change him into classic Pac-Man. His Final Smash creates the original Pac-Man playfield, complete with walls and power pellets.

Hit the jump for the Pac-Man reveal trailer.

UPDATE: This story previously said that Mr. Game & Watch was confirmed for the upcoming games. There seems to be some descrepancy as to whether Nintendo was seeking to reveal Game & Watch, or simply compare his age to that of Pac-Man. For that reason he remains unconfirmed at this time.

World Officially Ending - Capcom vs Namco Rumors

Game Informer is reporting a rumor that two very different Versus style games are being developed by the two biggest companies in the fighting game arena. Supposedly, both companies are developing their own game, pitting their characters against the rival's. Namco's game is reportedly being built with the Tekken 6 engine, while the rumor has it that Capcom's game is being developed with the SFIV engine. Given that the heads of both franchises were recently on stage together in Vegas, hamming it up, and with Ono's imminent announcement of a game, the stars do seem to be in alignment.

Note, that these games are not continuations of the previous Namco x Capcom, an RPG. These are fighting games.
