Super Desperation Radio Episode 428 Archive Online

The latest episode of Super Desperation Radio is now available for watching on IPLAYWINNER'S YouTube channel.

The Discord era of SDR began as the show moved from the ever-crashing Skype application for this show. And then promptly discussion crashed as SDR took on the King of Fighters XIV teaser trailer, with cast members talking about the pros and cons of the reveal. While it is certainly good to see a new KOF, nothing about this trailer was impressive.

Discussion of the visuals in KOF XIV lead to a general discussion about the decreasing quality of visuals in fighting games and early builds, as Street Fighter V was put under the microscope with its recent reveal of Karin.

Lastly, Hellpockets' interest in Them's Fightin' Herds started a discussion about the game's IndieGoGo and SDR was impressed with the game's initial trailer and potential.

And speaking of new characters, Street Fighter V's Rashid was also a topic as SDR talked about his gameplay and tried to figure out who the remaining SFV characters will be.

Finally, four players are being flown out to the Team St1ckBug event on Oct. 3, and SDR talked about movements in the airdash scene and a possible upcoming Xrd event for the Southwest.

Before that, however, SDR talked about the weekend's Summer Jam and SCR Prelude II events including the now legendary 13-0 that was handed out by SonicFox to Perfect Legend at their match in Philadelphia.

And speaking of Mortal Kombat, the crew discussed the new patch that is trying to remove most of the game's option selects and Ed Boon's tease for big news coming later in the week.

The release of Guilty Gear Xrd Revelator dominated the conversation on SDR as the crew talked about the game's new look, its additional characters—Johnny and Jack-O—and a possible release schedule. Hellpockets also brought his usual complaints about Sega and the guys talked about River City Ransom: Underground along with the possible revival of other Technos franchises under new owner Arc System Works.

Coming back from their yearly Evolution vacation, the SDR cast talked about the event from both their pespectives as attendees and as people who worked at the show. Talk focused mostly on the Guilty Gear Xrd tournaments and the poor floorplan that lead many Gear players to watch quarter and semifinals in their rooms or outside the ballroom, but finals day and the USF4 grand final in particular were also mentioned.

The crew then switched gears to talk about the upcoming Arc Revo tournaments and how the U.S. teams would perform in Japan, as well the new updates to both Guilty Gear and BlazBlue.

Lastly, SDR discussed the recent problems with the Street Fighter V beta and what that means—if anything—for Capcom going forward.

With less than two weeks until Evolution 2015, Super Desperation Radio was talking about how the event is going to shape up in terms of competition. However, one game still up in the air is Mortal Kombat X, as continual patching has left people unsure of where their characters will be at the time of the tournament.

A much larger part of the uncertainty of Evo was cleared up as the official event schedule was released, and the crew talked about some of the smaller controversies surrounding it and tried to figure out how all the different side events would fit into the already-packed weekend.

As this was the first E3 for both SuperFX and Hellpockets, both had a bit to say about the event and what the atmosphere was like in the hall.

And of course there couldn't be conversation about E3 without talking about Street Fighter V, as both Giby and Hellpockets tried the game out. They gave their initial impressions and the whole cast talked about the positive reaction to this early build of the game.

Aside from the barrage of E3 news, SDR also briefly talked about the coming of Tekken 7 to U.S. Round 1 locations, and mentioned the recent Guilty Gear Xrd Revelator location tests in Japan.

It was Mystery Desperation Radio as Walkman, Hellpockets, Sanchez and SuperFX watched the Sony press conference from E3 during SDR. The four had plenty to say about the different reveals in Sony's presentation, from the return of Birdie in Street Fighter V to the revelation of the Final Fantasy VII remake.

The cast also used Shenmue 3 to talk about Kickstarter's effect on the games industry and whether crowdfunding is starting to lose its magic to the general public. This dovetailed with Arc System Works' recent acquisition of the old Technos catalog and the forthcoming River City Ransom: Underground. And mention of ASW of course lead to a quick discussion of the Arc Revolution Cup qualifiers coming at Evo 2015.

Thefts in the fighting game community have given SDR pause, including the most recent one targeting PandaXGaming. The crew talked about the possible bad precedent the crimes may be setting, and to avoid blaming victims in the aftermath.

SDR also talked about the placement of games on finals day, and asked why many tournaments do not showcase the new or "hot" games when they are released to help viewership. SuperFX also rallied the rest of the cast against the trend of 3/5 games for non-finals matches.

Lastly, the SoCal Regionals announcements left the cast questioning why anyone would want to go to Ontario, California.

The latest episode of Super Desperation Radio is now available for watching on IPLAYWINNER'S YouTube channel.

It was a drama-filled SDR as Hellpockets brought up the recent Smash Bros. Sandstorm tournament in Arizona and its myriad problems, along with the recent Twitter trash talk between Perfect Legend and SonicFox.

That conversation brought up the often-cited conversation about "fundamentals," and SDR discussed what that means (and doesn't mean) in today's fighting games. This segued into a conversation about games past and present, which allowed SuperFX to alert listeners to TheBeautifulDude's efforts to defeat the first Castlevania game.

Lastly, the recent Shoryuken call for Evo volunteers has seemingly kicked the hornets' nest, and SDR talked about the positives and negatives of volunteers, and how to possibly fix the system.

Talk from NCR focused on the Guilty Gear Xrd event, with thoughts about how the community is growing heading toward Evo 2015.

With NCR covered, attention turned to the Fatal 8 tournament and the Mortal Kombat X release. And with several stores breaking street date, SuperFX had a chance to play the game early and give his initial thoughts on the new system mechanics in the game.
