Sceptile Rumored to be Pokkén Tournament's New Fighter

One week ago, the official Pokkén Tournmanet Twitter account announced that the game will be receiving a new playable character as well as a new support Pokémon on Dec. 10 and it appears that character may be Sceptile.

A new image has surfaced showing the presenter of a Japanese Pokémon show playing the arcade game, and below the game's marquee there is an introductory move list for Sceptile that also names Electrode and Farfetch'd as supports in the game.

The original Pokkén Tournament tweet suggested the new addition to the game "contains the “ン” character (an “n” by itself, without a vowel)" in Japanese, and Sceptile's name in that language is "ジュカイン," or Jukain.

While this is certainly not a confirmation of the upcoming announcement, it seems like a pretty good guess before the official reveal on Dec. 10.

Pokkén Tournament is currently only in Japanese arcades, but will be coming to the Wii U console in spring 2016 for U.S. players.

Pokkén Tournament Halloween Update Adds Supports, Tweaks Balance

A new update has been released for Pokkén Tournament in Japan to both celebrate Halloween and add adjustments and new content to the title.

On the festive end, players will be able to dress their trainer in costumes during the event, and on the gameplay end characters in the game have received different changes to their moveset. The update has also added support Pokémon Ninetales and Mismagius.

Sadly, while the event will run from Oct. 15 through Nov. 3 in Japan, the U.S. will not be getting the content due to location tests being offline.

Pokkén Tournament Coming to Japanese Arcades in 2015

During a special presentation on Niconico today, Bandai Namco and The Pokémon Company announced an unexpected collaboration titled Pokkén Tournament. Obviously taking cues from the SoulCalibur and Tekken series, Pokkén will be a 3-D Pokémon fighting game set to release in Japanese arcades in 2015. Both Tekken's Katsuhiro Harada and SoulCalibur's Masaaki Hoshino are working on the project.

According to Harada, the game is being designed for both fighting game veterans and new players alike to enjoy, and will not use the Tekken engine. Instead, Pokkén is being designed to focus on the action of combat with the fun of playing the game being the highest priority.

There has been no mention of if or when a console release of Pokkén Tournament is being planned. Check out the first trailer after the jump.
