'Injustice Watchtower' reveals Robin trailer, beta and gameplay details

NetherRealm Studios held its first "Injustice Watchtower" stream for the upcoming game, showing off the gameplay trailer for Robin as well as offering more details of the game's beta and revealed characters.

The big news is that codes for the Injustice 2 beta are starting to be sent in waves to players who signed up for the program. The trial will include four characters—Batman, Supergirl, Superman and Atrocitus— at launch, rollback netcode and debut the game's equipment system for players to try out.

The equipment system allows players to customize a character in both gameplay and appearance, as different clothing or armor can provide different bonuses. There are also ability slots that can change a character's special moves, with some abilities even taking up more than one equip slot.

The stream also showed off the new Robin gameplay trailer as well as real matches involving Atrocitus and Batman. Players can check out the stream archive at Twitch and the Robin trailer after the jump.

Injustice 2 coming May 16, 2017

After some speculation, including a possible release date from Xbox, Injustice 2 has formally been announced to release on May 16, 2017.

Both Ed Boon and NetherRealm Studios tweeted the information, which fans of the first game have been awaiting since the sequel's reveal in June 2016.

So far very little information has been made available about the Injustice sequel, with much of the cast remaining a mystery. The game will arrive four years and a month after its predecessor Injustice: Gods Among Us, which released on April 16, 2013, in North America.

Mortal Kombat XL patch notes for Oct. 4, 2016, detailed

Mortal Kombat XL is getting a patch to coincide with the game's release on Steam on Oct. 4 and NetherRealm Studios has posted the list of changes.

Stamina has become more precious in the new patch, with running and cancelling into a dash draining more and getting hit while running costing a lot. There are also plenty of changes to almost the entire cast, with new moves created and properties, such as armor, given to or taken away from existing commands.

Check out the patch notes after the jump.

Mortal Kombat XL balance patch arriving Oct. 4

Ed Boon has confirmed that the MKXL balance patch will make the target date set by the game's Steam release.

He also made note that a Kombat Kast on Oct. 3 on NetherRealm's Twitch channel will give players all the details of the patch.

In the meantime, however, Boon and other NRS employees like Paulo Garcia and Tyler Lansdown have taken to Twitter to share footage of the patch in action.

As always, Boon and company are rather cryptic in saying what some of the footage means, only letting it speak for itself.

Upcoming Mortal Kombat XL balance patch confirmed

With first the speculation and then the announcement that MKXL is coming to Steam, Mortal Kombat players have been hoping that a new balance patch could be rolled out along with the title.

That hope has been made a reality as series creator Ed Boon tweeted on Sept. 9 that NetherRealm Studios is readying a new series of gameplay tweaks, which the company hopes to have ready by Steam release.

This should come as welcome news to players who have been hoping for various nerfs to Alien along with changes to other characters in the cast.

Mortal Kombat XL arrives for Steam on Oct. 4, 2016.

Krimson Ermac skin to support MKX tournaments, releases March 1

Players may remember that the sale of the Blue Steel Sub-Zero skin helped raise money for Mortal Kombat X prize pool at various events, and now NetherRealm Studios is doing it again.

Officially revealed during the Kombat Kast on Feb. 18—and spoiled a week earlier—Krimson Ermac is a new skin, available March 1, that can be purchased with a portion of the proceeds going to MKX tournament prize pools.

The price has not yet been revealed for Krimson Ermac, but Sub-Zero's alternate costume cost players $1.99 so it seems likely that Krimson Ermac may follow suit. Check out the trailer after the jump.

New Characters, Other Content Coming to Mortal Kombat X in 2016

It looks like Mortal Kombat X players will be getting new content, but not for roughly four months. After players speculated about Ed Boon's tweet on Sept. 2, NetherRealm has released a statement saying that new MKX content will be coming after the new year:

"The new content will include four new playable characters, skins and a new environment, all of which will be available in the first half of 2016."

While the content is months away, players will undoubtedly be happy to see the game continue to be supported by NRS as it reaches its first anniversary.

Ed Boon Teases New Characters for Mortal Kombat X

Ed Boon loves to be cryptic on Twitter, dropping both hints and red herrings to followers about upcoming events and characters for his Mortal Kombat series. He hinted at Tremor becoming part of the MKX cast long before the game even came out, and has teased about the story mode cast becoming playable as well

Now, Boon has done it again, posting a tweet with the question, "Tomorrow?" and a picture of four shadowed figures. On the picture it simply reads "Who's Next?"

Are these four characters the formerly unplayable story mode cast such as Rain and Baraka? Are they four characters—new and old—that will make up Kombat Pack 2? Or is Boon simply messing with his audience again? Only time will tell.

Option Selects Gone? and Other Changes in New MKX Update

NetherRealm Studios has posted the list of changes coming to Mortal Kombat X in the next couple days, and it is rather extensive. Along with changes to each character designed to try and make every variation more viable, there are four specific fixes designed to remove option selects from the game:

- Removed the ability to add extra inputs while doing a normal attack 2in1 cancel which allowed some characters to have the special move cancel only occur on hit / block
- Removed the ability to have some specific input timings on a 2in1 cancel so it could come out on block but not come out on hit on some normal attacks
- Removed the ability to option select execute a special move or throw reversal after block stun while still holding the block button
- Removed the ability to option select execute a wakeup non enhanced special move attack, wakeup throw, or wakeup backdash while still holding down the block button

NetherRealm has said this patch will be the last for the forseeable future unless an emergency arises. Hit the jump for the complete list of changes.

But that is not all the MK news for this week, apparently. Series creator Ed Boon hinted on Twitter that "BIG (new) MK news" will be released sometime later this week.

Footage of Predator in Mortal Kombat X Surfaces

Predator is the next DLC character coming to NetherRealm Studios' MKX, but he currently has only a loose release date of sometime in July. However, after it was revealed that Predator's data was present in the most recent balance patch to MKX, players knew it was only a matter of time before information about the character became public.

User Sonicdude20th on XboxClips has uploaded six videos of Predator from the game's challenge tower, showing all three variations: Hunter, Warrior and Hish-Qu-Ten. It is not clear what all defines each variation, but Hunter utilizes traps; Warrior features some kind of energy shield; and Hish-Qu-Ten comes complete with the Predator's shoulder cannon. The videos even feature one of the character's brutalities.

Ed Boon Hinting at Future Alien DLC for Mortal Kombat X?

Mortal Kombat series creator Ed Boon likes to throw not-so-subtle hints about upcoming projects onto his Twitter feed. He did it with the Kombat Pack characters, and he may once again be referencing an upcoming character with a pair of tweets in the last week.

After E3 2015, Boon posted what seemed at the time like a tongue-in-cheek joke about exclusives at the show:

E3 was great because we didn't have to show a new game. All I had to worry about was the secret room we were showing Terminator & Alien DLC.

While that post alone got the Internet rumor mill spinning about the possibility of both characters coming to Mortal Kombat X, Boon then added another tweet on June 24 showing a Blu-ray of the movie Alien on a store shelf. This only further suggested that fans may indeed see xenomorphs show up in MKX's future.

It should be noted, however, that neither tweet is proof of anything yet. And while the inclusion of Predator in MKX seems like a great opportunity to revive a famous comic and cinematic rivalry, it remains to be seen whether it will actually be happening.

New Mortal Kombat X Patch Brings Big Changes to Kitana, Others

The newest patch notes for Mortal Kombat X are live, and there are a lot of changes to many characters in the game. One of the characters to receive the most changes is Kitana, who got buffs on many of her moves and combos. In most cases, her moves are now much less punishable on block, which could mean big things for that character as the game moves forward.

There are also plenty of changes for Reptile, who received mostly damage buffs, and Goro, who received increases to on-hit advantage for some of his moves. Characters who may have come out worse in this patch include D'Vorah, Scorpion and Tanya, whose moves were adjusted after her release.

With CEO only days away, it will be interesting to see if Alex Jebailey allows this most recent patch to be used in the tournament. He is currently taking player feedback.

Ed Boon Says MKX Will Have More New Characters Than Ever Before

IGN's Luke Karmali recently talked to series creator Ed Boon about the upcoming Mortal Kombat X and its "new blood," so to speak, the new story and characters.

Boon said that while characters like Cassie Cage will not rule out the inclusion of related classic character like her parents, Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade, the focus is on bringing new players to the forefront. He even said that NetherRealm Studios is "probably introducing more [new characters] in this game than in any other MK title ever." Boon was quick, however, to say that old favorites could always be added to the game later by way of DLC.

Boon also talked more about MKX's story and the time jumps that will occur throughout. He claimed that gamers will see big shifts in power over the course of the narrative, and that flashbacks and jumps forward of 5 to 10 years will be used. Boon even admitted that once the story of MKX is complete he's not sure where Mortal Kombat will go from there.

The whole interview can be found at IGN.

NetherRealm Reveals "Injustice: Gods Among Us," an all-DC Universe Fighting Game

According to Gamespot, Mortal Kombat developers NetherRealm Studios are working on Injustice: Gods Among Us, an all-new fighting game set in the DC Comics Universe. MK lead Ed Boon is no stranger to the world of Batman and Superman, having released Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe in 2008, but this marks the first fighting game dedicated entirely to the DC Comics canon.

The game will likely borrow some gameplay elements from last year's Mortal Kombat reboot, and will feature weapons and destructible environments. Among the confirmed fighters are Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Solomon Grundy, and the Flash. Injustice: Gods Among Us is set for release sometime in 2013. Check out the announcement trailer after the jump!
