Skullgirls Delayed Until Early 2012 to Take Game from "Good to Great"

The official Skullgirls website announced today that the game is now set for an early 2012 release opposed to the previous "late 2011" launch date. They stress that this amount of time is needed to polish the game and take it from "good to great".

Some of the polish can be chalked up as purely aesthetic though others sound like great additions to both the gameplay and overall UI. One thing that caught my eye is they are adding an accidental pause prevention function that forces the player to hold the pause button for 15 frames before the game will go to the menu. Cool stuff -- I hope other developers are taking note here!

There's a brief recap of the fighting styles of the cast so far, and a reveal of the game's fifth announced character, Ms. Fortune. She's got the ability to pop her own head off, ala Alisa Boskonovitch or Jedah.

Skullgirls: Q&A Confirms Eight-Character Roster at Launch

After months of dodging, parrying, and super-jumping the question, Mike Z confirmed that Skullgirls will launch with eight playable characters. If that doesn't sound like enough: (1) you probably never played World Warrior and (2) DLC characters will be added to the game post-launch. This information comes from a recent XBLAFans Q&A, which also covers AI, training options, and storyline. Thanks to SRK for pointing it out!

Read what Mike Z said about the Skullgirls demo below, and check out the whole Q&A at XBLAFans!

EVO 2011 Skullgirls Side Tourney: Semifinals and Grand Finals Video and New Blog Entry with EVO Impressions

With all the hype and drama of the main stage games, it's easy to miss that EVO also has a ton of side tournaments dedicated other games.  One of these side tournaments was dedicated to Reverge Labs' upcoming 2D fighting game Skullgirls (coming later this year as a DLC title)!  Below you will find video of the Semifinals and Grand Finals matches.  Unfortunately they are not direct feed videos, but the quality is good enough that you can still see what is going on.

A new blog entry on the Skullgirls website has also been published.  This one gives EVO 2011 impressions by several staffers.  Check that out here. Now, onto some gameplay!

Participate in the Skullgirls Side Tourney at EVO, Win a One-of-a-Kind Stick

If you're headed out to EVO this weekend, you might be interested to know that Skullgirls developer Reverge Labs will be dropping by and throwing not only a panel, but also a side tournament for the as-of-yet unreleased title. The panel kicks off at 12:00 PM on Friday, and the side tournament is tentatively scheduled to start around 5 PM.

There's a little more incentive to participate in the side tourney beyond having the chance to play an unreleased game, though. Reverge Labs is also throwing some prizes into the mix, with second and third place receiving a Skullgirls-themed t-shirt - the grand prize is a custom, one-of-a-kind Skullgirls arcade stick designed by the team over at Arcade-in-a-Box.

If you want a chance to win the stick, be sure to register at the Skullgirls table no later than 3 PM on Saturday. If you do plan to enter, let us know!

Skullgirls: New Peacock Trailer

A new trailer for Skullgirls focuses on Peacock, a character with an interesting backstory.  Her weaponry is based on her love for old cartoons, so you get to see a lot of those old-school dropping heavy objects on people, throwing bombs, and so forth with the sound effects to match.

The more I see this game, the more interesting it gets.  Check out the trailer and let us know what you think.  Trailer from IGN.
