For old time's sake: Insane Sonic Hurricane Street Fighter 4 Combo Video Featuring Akuma and Bison

Every time I post one of these videos I have to find a new way to say how amazing they are.  Super Street Fighter 4 is now available, but don't let that convince you to skip watching this Street Fighter 4 combo video from Sonic Hurricane. It features Akuma and M.Bison, and the last combo in the video blew my mind. Check it out.

A FOND FAREWELL TO STREET FIGHTER 4

Super Street Fighter 4 is just hours away from official release.  Some of you lucky people out there are already playing the game.  I am obviously thrilled about Super Street Fighter 4 and for its potential impact on our fighting game community.

However, I also feel a tinge of sadness for leaving Street Fighter 4 behind.  This is the first time I have felt such a thing for a videogame.  As I traded in Street Fighter 4 the other day, I felt like I was saying goodbye to a friend.  That's silly, you say! What a geek, you say!  Well, I've lived and breathed Street Fighter 4 months before the game released on consoles, living the scene vicariously through Gootecks' podcasts and videos from arcade players in southern California.

After the game released on consoles on February 17th of last year, I logged over 300 hours of playtime on my Xbox 360 copy alone and a few hundred more on my Playstation 3 copy (It's amazing I've spent as much time on the game and still am only intermediate skill at best haha).  I've been to many tournaments and have hosted a few as well in that time, having many nail-biting matches and making many great friends.

In September or so of last year I started writing for iPlayWinner, giving me yet another perspective on the game as part of the fansite media.  Add to all that time the many streams that I have watched and the time I have spent trolling forums at NeoGAF and SRK and you can see that Street Fighter 4 has been a significant presence in my life.  It's been one hell of a ride.

And that is just my personal experience with the game.  Street Fighter 4 has been such a huge revitalizing force in the fighting game genre that even the game's haters out there have to give it that due.  While some companies were indeed still putting out a few fighting games (such as Namco and Sega) with varying degrees of success, many considered the fighting game genre to be in decline, especially the 2D perspective fighting game.  It is astounding to me that Capcom considered the release of Street Fighter 4 a "risk", and that people like the game's producer Yoshinori Ono had to fight to convince the company that it was a risk worth taking.

So, as Super Street Fighter 4 ascends to take the crown from Street Fighter 4, I'd like to bid a fond farewell to the game that has done so much, and extend gratitude to the folks at Capcom for taking that risk in releasing the game.

Cammy to be Added to Street Fighter 4 for Iphone for Free

Street Fighter 4 for iPhone will soon be getting an additional character, as Cammy will be joining the roster as a free download.  The game currently features eight characters.

Capcom has not set a release date for the download, but it is coming soon.  Street Fighter 4 for the iPhone is availalbe now for $9.99.  If you have an iPhone, it is a shockingly good rendition of the game for being on a phone.

STREET FIGHTER 4 GUILE COMBOS BY GILLEY

So, according to the Street Fighter 4 developers, half these combos shouldn't even possible. Obviously, they have never met Gilley, who not only put together this combo video but is instrumental in finding properties and frame data for moves. Farewell vanilla Street Fighter 4 Guile, ye shall be missed -- but not really!

A Video Showing Various Unblockable Ultra Setups for Street Fighter 4

Here is a video showing various unblockable Ultra setups for Street Fighter 4. Some of these still look very difficult to pull off, while some look feasible.  Thanks to IPW reader Valkyrie for pointing the video out.

UNBLOCKABLE ULTRAS DISCOVERED IN STREET FIGHTER 4

The original Street Fighter 4 will not go quietly into the night. Posted on IRC just a day or two ago is a handful of ways to set up unblockable Ultras with Sagat, Seth, Rose and Ken. The original video was taken from NicoVideo but since then many more videos have shown up giving players a look at how this works. The basic idea is there is a short time during the Ultra freeze where the character cannot block. By sending a projectile their way that hits them in this short period of time allow these characters to follow up with an Ultra.

The big questions is, will this still be possible in Super Street Fighter 4? If so, it could change the landscape of the game dramatically for those with a projectile, but at the same time it's been reported that most of these are pretty hard to do with any sort of consistency.

Here is an example with Sagat, and you can check out the full thread on SRK for all the nitty gritty details.

VERSUS CITY: 5 ESSENTIAL JAPANESE ARCADES, KINEDA TOURS TOKYO ARCADES

Photo by Terry Ng - Kineda.com

Oichi put together a dope feature on VersusCity, detailing 5 of the best arcade to visit while in Japan. I've been to two out of the five listed, not bad I guess!

Kineda also has an ongoing feature about Japanese arcades where he is posting photos from Street Fighter arcades across Tokyo, his latest entry is on Takadanobaba's BIG BOX arcade, which is the arcade I spent the most time at while in Japan. The picture above is from his feature, and check out his site for all the rest.

Here is a small excerpt from VersusCity on one of the other arcades I visited last summer, Club Sega Shinjuku West Exit:

For any game that you’re interested in, this Shinjuku-based arcade has it, whether it’s fighting, racing, shooting, or rhythm. This massive multi-storey building has a range of games including Street Fighter 4, Marvel vs. Capcom 2, Border Break, Lord of Vermillion, Senko no Ronde, VOOT and more. There are tournaments for multiple games on every weekend, even for older games such as the Vampire series, so you’re bound to find something you like here. While it does carry the standard 100yen per play price model, its location is one of the best; not only do you have access to the best variety of games, but the arcade is also set in one of the busiest parts of Tokyo, with an exciting nightlife.

SF4 Biweekly TACV 09: Gouken

Maj from Sonic Hurricane just dropped the newest SF4 TACV and this time around it features Gouken. A lot of really insane fireball combos and the Seth 100% combo at the end makes me smile considering how much I can't stand playing against Seth to begin with!

Here is an excerpt from the entry on Sonic Hurricane:

Gouken can create free juggle states with seven different moves, whereas most characters only have lvl2/lvl3 Focus Attacks to rely on. However, only four of his attacks possess inherent juggle potential, none of which are particularly versatile. Furthermore, he’s remarkably unique within the Shoto family, so it’s interesting to experiment with visually familiar yet functionally divergent attacks inspired by Ryu and Ken’s moveset.

Sonic Hurricane: New Street Fighter 4 Art Screenshots

You know, I've put hundreds of hours into Street Fighter 4 now and I think I've come to take its visuals for granted... until I see the next round of Maj's screenshots.  His artistic shots not only show off his artistic creativity, but also remind me just how good looking Street Fighter 4 really is.

Daigo Answers Questions at Capcom Unity

Daigo "The Beast" Umehara is known to be reclusive.  However, it seems like he has started to become more outspoken in recent months.  This time he has chosen to answer some of the questions that were sent to him via Capcom Unity. Here's a sample. Please hit the source link below to visit Capcom Unity to read the rest:

If US is behind Japan in rankings, what do you think American players should do to improve themselves?

Daigo: The absolute differences between the US and Japanese players are skill levels. Yes, the Japanese players have had advantages of having a rich arcade culture and game releases normally earlier there than in the US, but regardless of the advantages, it is definitely apparent that the Japanese players take it more seriously to practice and acquire skills they must have for their victory. As long as you have software at home, everyone can practice fundamental skills from anywhere in world, like combos and counter moves. The US players first have to close the skill gap that is now apparent from the Japanese players. Once you do that, I believe the almost all the improvements are made, and there will be nearly no differences between the US and Japanese players.

Street Fighter 4 is a success on iPhone. They have plans for DLC already, and why no Super?

Street Fighter IV is already looking like it's quite a success on the iPhone, having already landing on the top 10 charts for gaming.  Capcom is already looking at future plans for the game and to possibly follow it up with other fighting game titles on the iPhone.

Capcom's Takeshi Tezuka has told Kotaku that Capcom already has plans for downloadable content for Street Fighter IV iPhone, but nothing is yet set in stone. He also said that if this game sells well enough it's possible that the publisher could start looking at their popular Versus series of games for the next title they might bring to the iPhone.

Why not bring Super Street Fighter IV to the iPhone instead of Street Fighter IV?

"We couldn't release Super Street Fighter IV before the console version because (Super Street Fighter IV Producer Yoshinori) Ono is going to get annoyed," Tezuka-san said. "At some point, though, it would be very interesting if we could release the console version and the iPhone version at the same time."

WORLD GAME CUP - MASTER SERIES TOURNAMENT - MATCHES FROM DAIGO, RYAN HART, EITA & MORE!

So those of you who kept up with World Game Cup probably heard about their "Master Series" Street Fighter 4 tournament. Basically how it worked is they held qualifiers each day to get into the main tournament, and those who entered had a chance to win a free ride to EVO!

Since then, some videos of this tournament have shown up online, and let me tell you, they are some real bangers! I'm really happy to see these being uploaded because I wasn't sure if we would ever see videos of this tournament. Ryan Hart vs Daigo is a pretty incredible match so check that one out first, and you'll be surprised how well Evans, a Fei Long player, does against Eita. I've also included a couple others from the tournament but be sure to check out Hakf's YouTube Channel for all the rest.

Thanks to SephirothRK on NeoGAF for the heads up.

WORLD GAME CUP - LUFFY (RO) VS DAIGO (RY)

More videos of World Game Cup are showing up online and this set is particularly interesting due to the fact that most of us probably wouldn't have thought Daigo would ever have to face a Rose player in the semi-finals of a major tournament (I thought the same thing about Fei Long too!). The fact that he primarily plays on arcade and, well, the fact that there aren't a lot of Rose players out there to begin with, it's interesting to see how he approaches match ups he doesn't have much experience with.

Luffy ain't no slouch either though -- he ended up getting 3rd place at World Game Cup, which was a 256 man bracket filled with some real beasts like UK's Ryan Hart!

Thanks to iPlayWinner user Nagglepuss for pointing these out!

NEW STREET FIGHTER 4 CHUN-LI INFINITE

Error0001 put together a video showcasing a new infinite for Chun-Li in response to SonicHurricane.com's Combo Challenge 07. He mentioned in the description that this works on Chun because she leans back so far when hit, so it takes longer for each fireball to connect.

Obviously this is not something you will ever see in a real match and it's tool assisted, but these combo videos are always fun to watch.

Here is the original Combo Challenge video posted by SonicHuirricane.com

Thanks to UC1 on NeoGAF for pointing out the Chun-Li infinite video!

TEKKEN 6 GLOBAL CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS

Those of you who checked out the Tekken 6 live stream last night already know the outcome of this one, but before we get into results it's important to know how this tournament was set up. Basically, there were two champions for this tournament because separate tournaments were held for both PS3 and XBOX360. The 360 champion is the Korean Steve player Nin and the PS3 champion is Korean Heihachi player JDCR. Thanks to SDTEKKEN for the results, and check out their front page for more details on the results.

If you're curious how the North American players fared, Glenn from GetYourTournament has the results:
