Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus R Update Coming To Japanese Arcades

A while back, Arc System Works announced that they would have Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus to arcades in a new HD form factor as well as current generation consoles. Now the developer revealed that the arcade update will feature new additions to the existing game.

Now titled Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus R, the game is reported to have a balance update as well as new moves for the existing cast of fighters. The game will now be running on Sega's Ringwide hardware instead of usually being on Sega NAOMI.

If you are or will be in Japan in the coming weekend, Accent Core Plus R will be available to play during location tests in Tokyo (Club Sega Akihabara Shinkan), Osaka (Sega Nanban Avion) and Kitakyushu (Hyper Messe). There is no confirmation that if the changes will affect the upcoming downloadable console release on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Arc System Works also revealed an official website dedicated to the update but as of this post, it's currently out. For now check out a special video by the developer and a translation of the current balance changes after the jump!

Capcom Fighting All Stars: The Game That Never Was

Once upon a time, Capcom tried to make a new crossover fighting game featuring characters fighting on a 2D plane with 3D graphics. Long before SFxT was ever conceived, the game brought together Strider, Haggar, Charlie (Nash), Alex, Akira (from Rival Schools), Batsu, Poison, Ryu, and Chun-Li. It also introduced newcomers Rook, Ingrid, and D.D. Of the three, only Ingrid ever appeared in another game.

The game featured a strange Cinematic Combo system, along with Cinematic Counters. The last boss was reportedly Death, though I have never seen a single (non-silhouette) image or video of him. Does anybody out there have any footage of Death in action?

The game did go into beta test at some arcade locations, but was subsequently canceled without an actual release.

Check out videos below from Unseen64 and Majiel, along with an image showing what I assume to be the silhouette of Death, courtesy of this thread on Capcom-Unity.

Game Center CX in USA Brings the Kacho to Southtown Arcade

Game Center CX is a long-running Japanese television series in which Shinya Arino, aka the Kacho (chief), tries to complete difficult retro games. The show took a recent trip to America and stopped at some arcades in California. One of those stops was Southtown Arcade, where Japanese viewers got a glimpse of the world-famous RogerDodger, and the Kacho played a round of Metal Slug with the arcade's owner Arturo. Watch it for the arcade footage, but stay for the brutal Robocop challenge (because Robocop apparently represents America).

I'm not sure of the legality of this fan translation posted after the break, but it's a fantastic introduction to the series, so watch it while you still can. If you like what you see, support the show by watching the official U.S. version, called Retro Game Master, over at Kotaku.

NYCC: "Meet Me at the Arcade" Panel Featuring Seth Killian and Henry Cen

Meet Me at the Arcade was a panel discussion held at New York Comic Con last week. The panelists that participated were Seth Killian (Capcom Special Advisor), Henry Cen (co-founder of Next Level arcade), Norman Burgess (longtime Chinatown Fair regular), Jamin Warren (journalist and co-founder of Kill Screen Magazine), and Kurt Vincent (director of the upcoming documentary ARCADE).

Moderator Tal Blevins generally led the conversation by proposing questions or topics, which the panelists would then take turns answering or discussing. Below I've paraphrased most of what was said, based on notes I took during the panel. These are not direct quotes, as this is not a full transcript.

What did the panelists have to say about Chinatown Fair's legacy and the importance of arcades?

Fight Night: A Look at the Melbourne Fighting Game Community

Sean Lee and Scott Mitchell shot this look at Melbourne's arcade scene as a final assignment for a student project, and it is of remarkably high quality. They take a look inside the same Time Out arcade featured in a recent CrossCounter video and get an interview with Shadowloo.com's EXC355UM. He breaks down the differences in the various Australian scenes by area and explains the need for players to come out to tournaments.
