Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2 coming spring 2017 with new characters, changes

After the end of Guilty Gear Xrd -Revelator- at the Arc System Works Fighting Game Award 2017, the company announced a new update for the game that will be coming this spring.

Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2 will feature two additional playable characters: "The Business Ninja" Answer, who is Chipp's chief of staff, and a returning Baiken. According to ASW's Pachi and Daisuke Ishiwatari, the design team is trying to retain Baiken's original playstyle while making her more offensive. For Answer, the two said he will be able to gain immense speed under certain circumstances.

The game will also be rebalanced and new moves will be added, with the balance changes being bigger than the previous patches. The first location test will run Jan. 20-22, 2017, in Japan.

Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2 will be coming to PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and Steam as a paid downloadable update. Arc System Works has said more information will be coming soon. Players can check out the reveal trailer as well as images for Answer and Baiken after the jump.

New guide aims to give players "Leo Countermeasures" in Guilty Gear

Japanese Guilty Gear players Ruu, Tomo and Takehara have created a four-part guide giving players ideas on how to fight Leo in -Revelator-.

Leo has become a problem character for many players in Guilty Gear who do not properly understand his options. The four parts of this guide, broken down into Normals, Specials, Stance and More Defensive Tactics, offer answers to each situation while weighing the possible risks of that solution.

Originally written in Japanese, three parts of the guide have been translated thanks to BloodWolF (parts one and three) and Lord Knight (part two), with help from Mr. K and Bears. Although a long read, the guide may prove invaluable to players who still have immense trouble with the matchup.

Learning Guilty Gear fundamentals by Machaboo

Guilty Gear Sweden has posted a guide by Machaboo on basics he believes players need to know to become stronger at the airdasher series.

The guide, translated to English by Zake, breaks the game into four parts: Basics, Decision-making based on risk/reward, Defense and Mind games.

The guide includes situational examples and tries to simplify the concepts for those who may feel overwhelmed by all the information. It's both a great primer for players looking to advance their GG gameplan and as a look into the mind of one of the game's strongest players.

Mikado's Tenkaichi Budokai returns, help vote for competitors

Mikado arcade in Japan will once again be holding its Guilty Gear league, Tenkaichi Budokai, and is asking for aid in determining the event's competitors.

Tenkaichi Budokai is an arcade-based, offline league where eight players are split into two groups in a round-robin format. The player with the most points in each group is then moved into the final round. Those two players will be joined by a third player who wins a "last chance qualifier" comprised of the next-highest-placing competitors.

Tenkaichi Budokai will be streamed on Jonio's Twitch channel with live commentary in English and Japanese provided by MajinObama and Jonio, respectively.

For the upcoming 2017 league, this year's winner, Karinchu, will be joined by three players who win qualifier events. The other four participants, however, will be decided by a public vote. From Nov. 18 through Dec. 2, 2016, players and spectators are given four votes a day to support the candidates of their choice for the league. Voters can mark their ballots at ftg-reversal.net, but for those who do not understand Japanese, MajinObama and Eiji have put together an explanation of the voting process and a guide to the potential players.

For more information on Tenkaichi Budokai, including league dates as they become available, follow MajinObama, Eiji and Jonio on Twitter.

-Revelator- Dizzy glitch leaves fish frozen in place

Guilty Gear Xrd -Revelator-'s newest downloadable character, Dizzy, has only been available since July 18 but players have already discovered an odd glitch surrounding her ice fish move (quarter-circle back+punch or kick).

Using either variant, if players grab within a small window before the fish's lunge animation hits the opponent, the fish will become stuck in place. The fish then becomes nothing more than frozen graphics—it has no hurtbox or hitbox—unless a new fish is summoned and hits in the same area. The old fish will then take on the properties of whichever strength the player chose for the new fish, meaning two or three hits depending on whether punch or kick was pressed.

Check out the glitch in action after the jump, followed by an extreme example of how far it can be taken.

PS3 & PS4 frame-rate analysis of Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- by Digital Foundry

Digital Foundry, the premier graphical analysis team, took some time off from their usual videos to see how the newest iteration of Guilty Gear Xrd runs.

DF member Thomas Morgan details the differences of the unique character animations compared to other aspects of Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- including environment, camera movement and more.

Similar to their other frame-rate tests, Digital Foundry sees how the game runs using graphs for frame-rate as well as frame-time. The game on PlayStation 4 displays a full consistent 60fps with no alterations to the 16ms frame-time all in native 1080p. When it comes to the PlayStation 3 version, the game pairs back to 720p with lowered graphical features. Even if the PS3 version has to deal with minor frame drops and screen tearing, 60fps is still maintained most of the time.

The analysis video, as well as the graphical panel from GDC 2015 can be found below.

Guilty Gear Xrd -Revelator- menu translations by Kurushii

Guilty Gear Xrd -Revelator- is now available for purchase in Japan and on Japanese PlayStation Network, which has lead many across the world to purchase the game before their respective region has the title.

However, unlike Guilty Gear Xrd -Sign-, this new version of the game has menus entirely in Japanese. For those who cannot speak the language and who do not wish to try and figure out Xrd's menu system through trial and error, Twitter user Kurushii has put together a Google document that translates every single option in the game.

This is a great resource for players who had to have the game before its release in North America on June 7 or European release on June 10.
