CHUN-LI: Capcom

"Even in the Air, I can still dance all over your face!"

TATSUNOKO VS CAPCOM BIO:

Chun-Li, a famous Chinese fighter and Interpol agent, is a prominent martial artist who is renowned for her speedy and powerful kicks. Whether showcasing her fighting ability on the job or in the ring, she has never given up hope of finding her missing father. She knows that the Shadaloo crime organization, and its leader, her longtime arch-enemy M. Bison, are linked to her father’s disappearance.

CHARACTER ORGIN

Chun Li was first introduced in Street Fighter II: The World Warrior, and has appeared as a playable character in every Street Fighter game since. She has also made crossover appearances in other games. In Street Fighter II, she is an undercover agent who enters the tournament as a way of getting to its founder, M.Bison.  She wants to avenge her father, who was murdered while investigating Bison's Shadaloo crime syndicate.

GAMEPLAY DETAILS

Chun-Li is one of the easier characters to play. Beginners will find her quick to pick up and her gameplay style allows them to become more accustomed to the concept of air combos and chain combos. Chun-Li is a very versatile and quick fighter with great range and speed on her attacks. She doesn't have much of a projectile game but is quite fierce up close. She can air jump twice, making her air combos very powerful and giving her superior air mobility.

CHARACTER STATS

Difficulty: Basic

Style: Agressive rushdown

Defensive power: Chun Li has solid defensive options and slightly below average HP. Her kicks are fast and have great range, making them good for poking opponents who are trying to push the offense. Her Hyakuretsukyaku has a large hitbox and almost instant startup, making it a fantastic defensive move to serve almost any situation.

Offensive power: Due to her long air combos, she is able to deal a lot of damage and is an ideal partner for Variable Air Raids. Her single hits by themselves are not too strong and her Hyper attacks are weak compared to other characters, but her Hoyokusen is one of the most useful level 1 Hypers for dealing damage in the game, since she can use it to follow into an air combo.

Approach strength: Chun-Li's fast attacks give her plenty of ways to approach safely. Her projectiles don't compliment her very much, so she needs to rely on air dashing and dashing to get in close. Due to the range on her kicks, it's often not hard for her to pressure the opponent into letting down their guard. Hoyokusen can also be used to punish from almost half a screen's length away.

Combo ability: Chun-Li's second air jump lets her continue her air combos in ways most other characters couldn't. She is able to prolong her ground combos by using Hyakuretsukyaku loops in the corner, and also has a re-jump loop as well.

Meter Usage: Chun-Li mostly uses meter for Hoyokusen and Megacrash, but since she builds meter very quickly she can afford to save up for a Shinchisei Senkyukyaku on occasion.

Key Techniques: Players will need to learn how to use Hoyokusen in combos as well as how to make use of her extra jump. Advanced players will need to learn how to do her Hyakuretsukyaku loops to maximise her damage output.

Partner Options: Chun-Li benefits from projectile assists that can help her extend her natural ground combos such as Ryu, Morrigan or Jun the Swan.

Special Moves

KIKOKEN (FIREBALL)

 HALF CIRCLE FORWARD + ATTACK

Chun-Li's fireballs come out slower than most fireballs.  The strength of the attack button that you use determines the fireball's characteristics.  The light attack button's fireball goes the farthest but it is also the slowest version.  The hard atack fireball is the fastest but does not go very far. Fairly poor as a projectile, but it does have some use in baroque and assist combos.

HYAKURETSU KYAKU (LIGHTNING LEGS)

TAP  RAPIDLY (can be used in the air)

The light attack version of lightning legs will continue until you stop mashing the button. The medium and hard attack versions will work in bursts which stop for a moment before resuming but do more damage. This is one of Chun Li's most useful specials. It has almost no startup and lag, so it can be used to get her out of many dangerous situations. It is also her primary method of combatting giant characters as it keeps them locked in their super armor for some time, allowing her to call in a tekkaman assist to pull them off the ground and into her re-jump loop for huge damage.

TENSHOU KYAKU (SKY KICK) (can be used in the air)

FORWARD DOWN DOWN-FORWARD + ATTACK

This move makes Chun-Li perform a series of diagonal kicks as she flies upward.  Can be used as an anti-air, but is not as effective as other dragon-punch style anti-air attacks. It does decent damage and is not significantly affected by damage scaling, so it makes a good combo ender.  The attack button used determines the number of hits and damage.

SPINNING BIRD KICK (can be used in the air)

CHARE DOWN, UP + ATTACK

This is one of Chun-Li's signiture moves.  It deals more damage than her Tenshou Kyaku and can be useful for surprising the opponent or as an alternative air combo ender.

HEADSTOMP

IN AIR

Another of Chun-Li's signiture moves.  As she jumps over someone she can stomp on their head with her foot and follow-up with an attack. If there is no follow up, she will bounce safely to the other side of the opponent.

Hyper Moves

KIKOUSHOU - HYPER COMBO LEVEL 1

QUARTER CIRCLE FORWARD + ANY TWO ATTACKS

Chun-Li performs a mega-Kikouken which surrounds her whole body.  It does not do much damage, even when using a Variable Combination.  It does a lot of hits, which affects damage scaling, and it doesn't have great range.  It can be used as an anti-air or to finish off an opponent who has just megacrashed their last remaining life away (for a chip damage KO) but in general it's not a very useful attack.

HOYOKUSEN - HYPER COMBO LEVEL 1

FORWARD DOWN DOWN-FORWARD + ANY TWO ATTACKS

Chun-Li rushes towards the opponent and does a flurry of kicks ending in a high kick. The last hit acts as a launcher, so you can follow it with an air combo. Definately Chun-Li's most useful super. Due to how powerful her air combos are, she will gain a lot of damage on top of the super itself, and will also regain back much of the meter she used to perform the attack in the first place.

SHICHISEI SENKUKYAKU - HYPER COMBO LEVEL 3

IN AIR
QUARTER CIRCLE FORWARD + ANY TWO ATTACKS

Chun-Li dashes towards her opponent in a kicking pose.  If it hits. a bunch of Japanese characters appear onscreen and a light show ensues.  Because this move is affected so much by damage scaling.  Due to this, it is best to inflict as few hits as possible with other moves before using this move to get maximum damage. Another key tool for combatting giant characters.

Assists

Partner Assist

Aerial Up Kicks (Tenshou Kyaku)

It can also be used to hit an opponent who is fairly high in the air and pin them down longer than most assists.  If you have good timing it can be used as a relatively safe anti-air.

Variable Counter

When used as a Variable Counter, she performs a launcher.

Variable Combination

Hyper Fireball (Kikou Shou)

This is not the best Variable Combination because it is fairly weak and is heavily affected by damage scaling. However, if you need that extra bit of damage to finish someone off, go for it.
