'Injustice Watchtower' reveals Robin trailer, beta and gameplay details

NetherRealm Studios held its first "Injustice Watchtower" stream for the upcoming game, showing off the gameplay trailer for Robin as well as offering more details of the game's beta and revealed characters.

The big news is that codes for the Injustice 2 beta are starting to be sent in waves to players who signed up for the program. The trial will include four characters—Batman, Supergirl, Superman and Atrocitus— at launch, rollback netcode and debut the game's equipment system for players to try out.

The equipment system allows players to customize a character in both gameplay and appearance, as different clothing or armor can provide different bonuses. There are also ability slots that can change a character's special moves, with some abilities even taking up more than one equip slot.

The stream also showed off the new Robin gameplay trailer as well as real matches involving Atrocitus and Batman. Players can check out the stream archive at Twitch and the Robin trailer after the jump.

Tekken 7 comes home June 2, 2017

The newest entry in Bandai Namco's Tekken series comes to Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Steam right at the halfway point of 2017.

TEKKEN 7 ANNOUNCEMENT IMAGES

The date is definitely later than the game's original "early 2017" launch date that had been suggested by its developer, but according to Ign, Tekken Project Leader Katsuhiro Harada recently stated "We were trying to do everything we could to make that date happen … but in the end we came to the decision that [after] seeing releases from other companies, as well as some of the past of our own, where maybe things weren’t working 100% at launch ... we made a very difficult decision of moving it to June to include all of the original content that we’d originally planned."

With that in mind, Bandai Namco has outlined many details of the game's June release. First, Tekken 7 will offer the series' first collector's edition, coming with a special Kazuya and Heihachi statue, a steel book case and soundtrack. The game will also offer Tekken's first Season Pass, guaranteeing more new characters, new stages, a new game mode, costumes and bonus "Metallic" skins after the game's release. Third, the PlayStation 4 version of the game will gain exclusive content in the form of classic costumes from previous Tekken games including Jin's Tekken 4 hoodie and formal King from Tekken2.

Lastly, the spirit of Tekken Revolution lives on as Eliza has been added to Tekken 7 as a preorder bonus. For more information on the game and its release, head over to Bandai Namco's website. Players can watch the game's new trailer after the jump.

Registration open for Injustice 2 beta

Players can now register to be part of an upcoming online beta test for Injustice 2.

NetherRealm Studios Creative Director Ed Boon made the announcement on Twitter, pointing everyone to the sign-up site but offering nothing more in the way of information, such as a start date for the beta.

It's also unknown how much content will be offered when the beta goes live. NRS previously offered an "Enhanced Online Beta" when the company was porting MKXL to the PC platform and finalizing new netcode, but it's unlikely that the Injustice 2 test will be anything more than a tease of what's to come in the game's final release.

Injustice 2 releases May 16, 2017, for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles.

Tekken 7 home release date to be announced before the end of January

Players will finally be getting a release date for Tekken 7 within the next seven days.

According to both the official Tekken Twitter account and Tekken Project's Michael Murray, fans will find out "next week" when the franchise's newest entry comes home to console and PC. The anticipation has been eating at competitors, who have been waiting for more than a vague 2017 launch window since the game was announced in June 2016. Many were further disappointed that Bandai Namco's announcements at the King of Iron Fist Tournament 2016 Grand Finals did not include a firm date.

Tekken 7 will be coming home with new characters including Miguel, Lee, Kuma and Panda. The game is scheduled for release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

Injustice 2 story trailer released, versions detailed, characters teased

The trailer for Injustice 2's story mode has been unveiled, both picking up where the events of the first game left off and revealing new players who will be part of the drama as it unfolds.

Poison Ivy, Robin and Brainiac were all teased in the cinematic clip, along with returning character Bane. Brainiac and Robin have also been confirmed from an in-game image posted on NeoGAF. These reveals are so far in line with a potential roster spoiler, but it still remains to be seen if the whole list will be accurate.

What is confirmed, however, is that Injustice 2 will have at least nine DLC characters, as they will be included as part of the Ultimate Edition of the game along with three premier skins. The premier skins will offer different versions of the character: Supergirl will turn into Power Girl, for example. There will also be a Digital Deluxe edition of the game that will come with three DLC characters and one premier skin. There are no prices available for those editions at this time.

Injustice 2 arrives May 16, 2017. Check out the story trailer after the jump.

More details uncovered for Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2

Information intended for an upcoming issue of Famitsu has been released online, giving fans more more insight into the changes and release details of Rev 2.

For starters, the download version of Rev 2 will cost 2000 yen, which is roughly $17.75. There is no estimated console release date for the title, with 2017 remaining the only indicator.

As for the new characters in Rev 2, Baiken's only has one counter move that replaces all her old guard cancels. According to translations by Greanfernman, Baiken "is hard to deal with as an opponent, and might be confusing as a new character, so simplicity was stressed in her design." She will retain her other moves, but it remains to be seen how they will function. Answer, meanwhile, uses business cards and scrolls in his move set. The scrolls he places and can attack from using different specials, while he throws business cards like shuriken and can either teleport to their location or create clones from them.

Existing characters will also see tweaks, with examples including a lowered crouching hitbox for Potemkin, Ramlethal getting one or several new moves and Axl's sparrowhawk stance getting changed "in concept." For the complete translation, head over to Evernote.

New guide aims to give players "Leo Countermeasures" in Guilty Gear

Japanese Guilty Gear players Ruu, Tomo and Takehara have created a four-part guide giving players ideas on how to fight Leo in -Revelator-.

Leo has become a problem character for many players in Guilty Gear who do not properly understand his options. The four parts of this guide, broken down into Normals, Specials, Stance and More Defensive Tactics, offer answers to each situation while weighing the possible risks of that solution.

Originally written in Japanese, three parts of the guide have been translated thanks to BloodWolF (parts one and three) and Lord Knight (part two), with help from Mr. K and Bears. Although a long read, the guide may prove invaluable to players who still have immense trouble with the matchup.

FGC Story Time: James Chen talks about the US coastal rivalry

In what may become a continuing series from UltraChenTV, James Chen sat down to talk about the historic East Coast vs West Coast feud that started in the earliest days of competitive Street Fighter and how it has evolved over the years.

Starting with some of the first meetings between the coasts at events such as Battle by the Bay 4, Chen talked about notable players like Eddie Lee and discussed how the competition moved from Alpha to Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and all the way into Street Fighter IV.

Chen interspersed his narration with match footage whenever possible, and was glad to have both Alex Valle and Justin Wong in the chat to correct some of his information. Readers can check out the Twitch archive below.
