DOA5: Interview With Team Ninja Talks Secret Danger Zones in Stages, Possibility of Wii U Port and More

A new interview with Team Ninja appeared today on Siliconera where they touch on various topics surrounding Dead or Alive 5. One thing they discuss at length is game balance and how the Danger Zones -- areas you can knock the opponent into to cause more damage and short cut-scenes -- in each stage will work in the larger scope of the game. They mention that while some Danger Zones will be quite obvious, they will have many other secret Danger Zones within stages to add incentive for players to try out new stages and combos.

They also mention that they are going to wait until Dead or Alive 5 is in the hands of PS3 and XBOX360 owners before considering a Wii U version. It sounds like if the demand is there they will consider it but nothing is planned right now.

DOA veteran Bass makes his return to the series though it looks like we have newcomer Rig -- a Canadian Tae Kwon Do fighter -- joining the roster as well. While you'll have to settle for some scan images for now, I'm sure more media will be available for these characters in the coming days.

Andria Sang also wrote up a quick piece on the updated photography mode which will allow players to zoom and pan and get up close and personal with their favorite fighters. Load up your replays and change angles on the fly to nail that Kodak moment.

Persona 4: Arena Wins GameTrailer's "Best Fighting Game of E3" Award, Gameplay Footage of TTT2, DOA5 & More

Gametrailers put together a "Best of E3" video series with their latest entry focusing on the fighting game genre. There were a lot of high-profile fighting games at E3 this year so choosing the best one had to be difficult. In the end, they chose Persona 4: Arena, citing that it bridges the gap between RPGs and fighting games.

Even if you're like me and think video game awards are pretty stupid, there is still a ton of gameplay footage in this video making it a solid preview reel for all the fighting games that were at E3. Check it out after the jump.

Team Ninja: We have no plans to sell characters as DLC

Speaking with videogamer.com, Yosuke Hayashi spoke on what is possibly one of the most disliked practices in the fighting games industry, selling characters as downloadable content:

"We don't feel that it's right for fighting games."

"We feel like this is a kind of sport, and you don't change the rules for sports. Everybody plays by the same rules. You don't have a 14-player soccer game versus an 11-player soccer game. That's just not fair."

Team Ninja stated they have no plans to sell DLC characters. Certainly, his words will be appreciated within the fighting games community, and may influence other publishers to stop this practice.

You can read the rest of Hayashi's opinion on this thorny subject at videogamer.com.

DOA5: Kokoro Combo & Match Exhibition Video from E3

IGN Pro League uploaded another Dead or Alive 5 combo and match exhibition and this time around Kokoro is the star of the show. To be honest, she looks far less interesting than the likes of Kasumi, Ryu Hayabusa or hell, even the Virtua Fighter 5 guest character Akira Yuki. Overall, her combos and attacks look very uninspired but we'll see how she's fleshed out in the final build of the game.

Dead or Alive 5 To Have Online Tag Battles, No More Interactive Lobbies

According to a new report from Joystiq, Dead or Alive 5 will bring back tag-team battles, which will be playable both locally and online. Joystiq also noted that Team Ninja have done away with the interactive online lobbies of Dead or Alive 4, which allowed players to freely walk around a small room with a custom avatar before finding a match. This omission was made to ensure Dead or Alive 5 has top-of-the-line netcode, so lets hope that holds true come September.

Persona 4 Arena and Dead or Alive 5 Video Interviews by Machinima from E3 2012

For Persona 4 Arena, Machinima interviews Aram Jabbari, PR and Sales Manager.  Topics include how did they come up with the idea to take Persona, an RPG, and make it into a fighting game?  Do they feel like it will hit EVO-level in the FGC?  What gameplay mechanics make Persona 4 Arena unique?  What's really nice is that the game will use the Arc System Works BlazBlue online code, so you know it will be good!

Yosuke Hayashi of Team Ninja about Dead or Alive 5 was also interviewed.  Why such a long wait between Dead or Alive 4 and 5? What kind of new gameplay elements can we expect in the new game? How will the game reach beyond hardcore players to be easier for new players to pick up?  Also, why the focus on breasts?  All these and more are answered in the vids below!

Tecmo Says Without Virtua Fighter, Dead or Alive Would Have Never Existed

In a new interview from Gametrailers with Tecmo's lead designer on Dead or Alive 5, Yohei Shinbori, he talks about what they have done to the game to push not only the DOA series, but the entire fighting game genre forward. He talks about taking player feedback from the recent demo and making adjustments to make the game more competitive as well.

He also touched on the guest Virtua Fighter characters and mentions that the VF series is the Godfather of 3D fighters and without it Dead or Alive probably wouldn't exist. Check out the full interview after the jump.

DOA5: Hands On Gameplay Impressions of Virtua Fighter's Akira Yuki & Sarah Bryant

Siliconera got some hands on time with the latest build of Dead or Alive 5 that includes Virtua Fighter guest characters Akira Yuki and Sarah Bryant. The impressions are fairly simple and it sounds like they only got a match or two in with each character. They mention that Sarah has great range with her kick attacks but Akira felt "too stiff" compared to the rest of the cast.

While I'd take the individual character impressions with a grain of salt, they do talk in depth about the Power Blow and Critical Attacks that allow you to dish out massive damage by using the walls and other environmental elements of each stage.

Dead or Alive 5 Gameplay Changes and Impressions from E3

Maxwell McGee cranked out another preview for a highly-anticipated fighter (for some): Dead or Alive 5. He touches briefly on some of the new gameplay mechanics and how they interact with the stages. Overall the game sounds like its shaping up pretty well and watching the IPL stream from E3 has made me -- one of the biggest skeptics of DOA games -- very excited to try it.

Read the full preview here and check out a small excerpt after the jump.
