Dead or Alive 5 Impressions, Preview Videos and New Screenshots

Are you a huge fan of Dead or Alive? Me neither, but there has been a ton of new media hitting the web over the past day ever since the Tecmo-Koei press event that went down right here in San Francisco last night. What the hell!? Why wasn't I invited?

All jokes aside, there is a full impression video straight from Gamespot where they talk a bit about the game mechanics and characters which you can check out after the break. They chat a bit about the "fighting entertainment" aspect of the game where you can use Power Blows to knock your opponent into a Dynamic Attraction areas which sounds an awful lot like Mortal Kombat vs DC at the moment. While sailing through walls or breaking through floors is nothing new to the series, these areas sound a bit more involved such as hanging from cranes and ledges and seem to be an integral part of the gameplay.

Overall, the tone of the impressions sounds like the game isn't trying to be too technical and comes off as a little "gimmicky" at this point. Keep in mind that it is only about 15% complete at the moment.

Oichi over at VersusCity has some more details about the Power Blow system straight from the latest issue of Famitsu which you can check by clicking here.  You can find more impressions from the event at IGN, TK Players and FreeStepDodge. Enjoy!

Team Ninja Says Dead or Alive 5 Will "Define the Next Level of Fighting Games"

I guess Team Ninja doesn't need Itagaki around to blow up other developers, as they continue their tradition of downplaying the accomplishments of other fighting games while raising the expectations for the new Dead or Alive game through the roof.

In an interview with Team Ninja leader Yosuke Hayashi on Siliconera, he mentions that while games like Street Fighter 4 helped revive fighting games and are great with updated graphics, they aren't really bringing anything new to the table and feel "fighting entertainment" is the next step in the genre. He says that with Dead or Alive 5, they aren't going for a technical fighter, but one that is simple enough to play with enough depth under the hood for those who want to find it.

While they talk a good game, I'm still really skeptical and doubt that Dead or Alive 5 will end up being anything more than a "choose your own adventure" fighting game, using traditional DOA gameplay mechanics with nice graphics. What do you guys think? Will Dead or Alive push fighting games in a whole new direction or will it simply be a game for Team Ninja to show the next level of boob physics?

A new-ish trailer for Dead or Alive 5 was released today by Tecmo, and while it starts off the same as the one you've seen in the past, there is an extended segment -- or round 2 rather -- towards the end. Ryu and Hayate continue their fight in the streets below, showing off more of the insane environments you'll encounter which the developer dubs as "fighting entertainment" . Check it out after the break!

Dead or Alive Dimensions: Gamespot Video Interview with Head of Team Ninja, Yosuke Hayashi

Dead or Alive Dimensions is scheduled for release on the Nintendo 3DS handheld on May 24th.  If you are looking for more information on the game, Gamespot recently interviewed Yosuke Hayashi, head of Tecmo Koei's Team Ninja, who gives a nice breakdown of the game's main features.

The interview gets into the game's main modes, it's utilization of 3D (or not if you want full 60fps action!), the main concept behind the game, and all the while it shows a lot of gameplay footage.  Keep in mind that the game will look much better than it does in this video, but you can get the basic idea.

Dead or Alive Dimensions (3DS) to Feature Stage from Metroid Other M

Dead or Alive Dimensions for the upcoming Nintendo 3DS handheld will have a Metroid Other M stage! At first it was a shock to see this, but Tecmo's Team Ninja did develop Other M so it shouldn't be that much of a surprise.  At any rate, the stage looks pretty cool and IMO the game just got a whole lot more interesting.

Check out the trailer featuring the stage after the jump!

New Dead Or Alive Dimensions Trailer & Impressions

A new trailer surfaced for the upcoming Nintendo 3DS version of Dead or Alive, and some impressions of the game courtesy of Andria Sang as well. The game looks phenomenal in the trailer, but the impressions mention that the game has a hard time displaying a proper frame rate when in full 3D mode.

Either way, looks like the Nintendo 3DS will not only be a graphical powerhouse, but also the portable fighting game system of choice. Check out the full trailer below, and click here for impressions of the game.

Dead Or Alive Dimensions' (3DS) Chronicle Mode & Use of Lower Screen Detailed

Andria Sang translated a recent article from Famitsu on a new mode for the upcoming Nintendo 3DS Dead or Alive game. Nothing too earth shattering here -- it's basically a single player tutorial/story mode that will give players a more in depth look at the story behind Dead or Alive. I guess that's cool if you're into fighting game stories!

They also talk about one of the uses for the lower screen on the 3DS for the game. It will display a command list for the character, and each move can be performed by tapping it if needed.

Anyway, a few new images for the game were posted on Famitsu as well, which you can check out below.

Dead or Alive for Nintendo 3DS Officially Named

An article on Dead or Alive for the Nintendo 3DS handheld was publised in Japanese weekly gaming magazine Famitsu.  The game will be called Dead or Alive: Dimensions.  Considering that the game will certainly utilize the 3D capabilities of the handheld, it is a good title.

A scans of the Famitsu article (shown above) give a small, slightly blurry early glimpse at the game. We will share new information as it comes in.

Thanks to IMNEXTONLINE.COM for the tip! Thanks to Nite for lead on far better scans!
