More DLC on the Way for Tekken 6? If so, it will be Free

Tekken 6 producer Katsuhiro Harada told Playstation Europe that his team is considering making additional downloadable content for the game.  He also stated that if it were to come to pass, it would be free.

When asked about plans for more downloadable content, he said, "There is a strong possibility we will. However, even if we were to do so, it would be free to the end user."

He is not talking about the online cooperative scenario mode DLC that is coming later this year or the online patch that is due on Thanksgiving.  Both of these are confirmed.  We will keep you informed.

Tekken 6 Behind the Game Featurette

GameTrailers has posted a behind the game featurette for Tekken 6.  It is an official Namco-Bandai vid which gives a quick look into the game's design.  Since it's official, it is obviously doubling as a commercial for the game as well, but it is still interesting to hear Katsuhiro Harada, long-time Tekken product director, share his thoughts on the game's design.

Hori Tekken 6 Stick Review!

What's up guys?  Yesterday Tekken 6 released and I got my dirty hands on the Bundle Pack.  Within it I got a hold of the wireless arcade stick that everyone has been so interested in.  People have been very worried and concerned as to the quality of product Hori would make and I would just like to be the first one to say I rather enjoy this unit for what it is and am glad to be in possession of one! Check out my quick little review on it below!

Tekken 6 Releases & Gamestop Tournament Announced!

Well it looks like Gamestop is at it again!  Back in February Capcom and Gamestop teamed together to bring an awesome nationwide tournament for Street Fighter IV.  Well it seems Gamestop is back but this time they are teaming up with Namco for the Tekken 6 release!

Tekken 6 officially releases tomorrow (or tonight at midnight for some of the lucky few) and this weekend on October 31st (Happy Halloween!) the King of the Ironfist Tournament will commence.  This is exciting news for all those Tekken players that have been hungry for this and have had to live with the Street Fighter IV hype this past year.  Tekken has been a more popular franchise than Street Fighter in countries other than the United States so it will be interesting to see how the fighting game scene responds to this announcement.

One thing for sure - I am unpleased with the announcement that you are still unable to bring your own arcade sticks.  Perhaps the gamestops will provide wireless hori sticks to play with, though that is doubtful.  You guys may want to practice this first week of Tekken 6 on that control pad!

For official rules and details on which stores near you are hosting the King of the Ironfist Tournament, please follow this link!

TEKKEN CRASH - Anyong Friends vs. Judgment

MYK from I AM TEKKEN inspired me to go check out some Tekken videos lately, and I found this one through the Lars forums on Tekken Zaibatsu. I had played (some) Steve in previous versions of Tekken, but I really like Lars' fighting style so I am thinking about picking him up when Tekken 6 drops.

Now, I don't know too much about the game but it's not hard to recognize clutch moments in any fighting game, and that's what the Lars player in the video below delivers. Check it out!

GRINDIN' JAPAN: SHIOZAWA CUP & SUPER BATTLE OPERA

[ Image courtesy of Tougeki ]

Yo! Finally back in San Francisco now after a three week grind in Japan. I wish I could have updated iPlayWinner more while I was out there but to be honest it's very difficult to sit in front of a computer when all of Japan is right in front of you!

Regardless, I have a lot of updates and news from the trip which I'll cover in this post, and keep an eye out for some new podcasts with some special guests talking about their experiences in Tokyo as well.

POST-GODS GARDEN

After GodsGarden, there weren't any big events to my knowledge until the following Thursday, which was a 5 on 5 Team Tourney for Street Fighter 4 held at BIG BOX Arcade. I'll cover that in a bit, but after Gods Garden and before the team tourney we spent a fair amount of time in arcades playing.

To be honest, I didn't even play as much as I thought I would. There are so many things to see and do in Japan, I felt a bit guilty some days just sitting in front of an arcade cab playing video games. On the other hand, when I was out and about causing trouble in Tokyo, I also felt a bit guilty for not playing more and trying to level up.

Anyway, this week of playing was a bit different for me and somewhat odd to say the least. The reason it was odd is I was actually playing much better when I first showed up in Japan. Initially I couldn't put my finger on why I wasn't playing as well during week two, but after talking to Magus and Lang a bit, I found I wasn't the only one having this issue. Most of us felt like we were capable of playing much better and really didn't understand where the barrrier was coming from.

After giving it some thought, I think it comes down to being over-exposed to the game and seeing so many new tactics from high level players that you want to implement. I think many are under the assumption that you will just show up to Japan and get automatically better. There is some truth to that, but at the end of the day it takes a while to soak in what you are learning and takes even longer to apply it.

SDTEKKEN: TEKKEN 6 DATED FOR OCT. 27th / ARCADE STICK BUNDLE

SDTEKKEN announced today that not only is Tekken 6 slated for an October 27th release, there will also be a limited edition bundle that includes the game and joystick. The joystick is manufactured by HORI and it's not clear yet what parts are used within the stick, but the stick is wireless, which is a first as far as I know. The bundle will cost 149.99 so my guess is stock HORI stick with Sanwa buttons! Either way, hopefully the joystick turns out to be easy to mod.

ARCADIA MAGAZINE: STREET FIGHTER 4 TIER LIST, TOP JAPANESE ARCADE GAMES

Thanks to VersusCity and SDTEKKEN.com for posting up a ton of new information from the newest Arcadia Magazine (June 2009).

First off, there is the new Street Fighter 4 tier list from Arcadia which is probably the most reputable tier list in Japan at this point. You will see a lot of tier lists floating around but most of them are composed from random Japanese wikis and what not while this comes straight from the players. This is for the arcade version of the game, so no console characters.

S: Sagat
A: Ryu, Akuma, Zangief
B: M.Bison, Rufus, Balrog, C.Viper, E.Honda
C: Abel, El Fuerte, Dhalsim, Chun-li, Blanka
D: Guile, Ken
E: Vega

Personally I find it interesting to see Bison higher than 'Rog and Viper, although Bison is a real hard match up for Viper. Also, why is Chun-Li and Dhalsim rated so low? Not that it matters (except for maybe Guile and Vega), considering that most of us have seen first hand if you master your character in SF4 you can give anyone serious problems.

TEKKEN 6 AND SOUL CALIBUR HEADED TO PSP

This week NAMCO announced Tekken 6 and an entirely new Soul Calibur game are headed to the PSP.

Tekken 6 will come with new stages and additional content, but its not clear yet if the original characters they speak of are separate from Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion's Lars and Alisa.

Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny will feature not only some of the main characters from previous entries in the series, but will also have a handful of new characters to choose from as well. Check out 1up.com's article for more details.

Tekken 6 is slated to release later this fall next to the PS3 and 360 versions and Soul Calibur is coming this summer to North America but no release date set for Japan yet. With this in mind, Richard Li from 1up asked about the popularity of Soul Calibur in North America compared to Japan in an interview with the game's director Noriyuki Hiyama.

1UP: Do you think the North American market likes Soul Calibur more than, say, the Japanese market?

NH: Yes, I think the North American market is much more Soul Calibur oriented. That could be because of population, install base, or many other reasons. I definitely feel the US market is important. Of course, Japan and Europe have a Soul Calibur fan base as well. We took the entire world in context when developing Broken Destiny.

Thanks to VersusCity for the heads up on this one - a player guide for Tekken 6 featuring combos for each character! This comes directly from Japanese gaming site GameWatch Impress, and although no in-depth strategies yet (not that it matters for most of us since it's all in Japanese) there are actual videos for each combos they mention.

TEKKEN 6: BLOODLINE REBELLION PLAYABLE IN SAN FRANCISCO "SOON"

So living in the Bay Area I check the Pacific North Matchmaking thread on SRK quite frequently, and to my surprise I found out today through a thread in that forum that Rack - N - Cue at SFSU will be upgrading their Tekken 6 to Bloodline Rebellion sometime "soon". I typically hit that arcade once a week so if this turns out to be true I'll be sure to take a photo as soon as it shows up.
