Attribute invincibility has traditionally only been in 3D fighters, however, BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger was the first 2D fighter to implement it.
Attribute invincibility differs from hitbox invincibility in that it doesn't make a certain part of your hitbox invincible to every type of move, rather your character's entire model invincible to certain types of moves.
For example, in Virtua Fighter every move is invincible to throws during startup. Your character is still vulnerable to strikes, but any throw attempts will result in a whiff. Another example is Hakumen's 6A in BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger, which has Head attribute invincibility. It will beat all moves with only the Head attribute clean, but moves with more than the Head attribute or moves that lack it entirely will beat his 6A.
